  • 2:43 So obviously there is a lot of technical editing behind the scenes, because I have the CD's of perhia's performance of the partitias, and they sounds 20 times better in terms of temporal and dynamic proportionality. So my question is, who recorded the sessions, how many takes were there, how many hours of editing after the takes were cut, and what equipment and digital effects were used to refine it into a top notch recording?

  • Herzlichen Dank dass Sie diesen Video hier gestellen haben - ich habe immer eine Aufname von Perahia und den Partiten gewollt. Koennen Sie mir bitte die Einzelheite von diese Aufname geben?!

    Danke Schoen!

  • Noone can analyze and then play with the spirit of Murray Perahia.... the analysis and technique is the means to an end and here is a perfect example of that he leaves me in tears for the beauty and tragedy of life

  • death to german 吹き替え! perahia is the best for bach!

  • I used to like this, until I heard Gould, that is.. Shame about the pedal

Still the biggest respect for Murray of course

  • You know Gould used pedal too...

  • I know this, I just find the use of Perahia's sustaining pedal over the top and quite disturbing.

Gould most of the times used little- or no sustaining pedal.. Since he was very focused on the contrapoint aspect of music, this seems a wise choice..

In the Goldberg variations he never touches the sustain.

Objectively there is no best of course, just preference.

  • @quinto34 Shame about the pedal? What about it? Do you think it improperly used or is it the fact that he uses it at all? Doesn't Andras Schiff use some pedal when he plays J.S. Bach on the piano? Does everyone have to play Bach without pedal? I like a lot of Gould's recordings too, but I do not necessarily regard them as setting some kind of ultimate standard.

  • Of course there is no such thing as a 'ultimate standard' in music, I'm reflecting my personal taste here..the use of pedal bothers me..there is no truth in that, just preference..

  • Spirituality?! he is over-analyzing the piece...

  • Anyone who claims there is no spirituality in Bach, doesn't understand spirituality or know how to recognize it

  • anyone know what song it is opening this video... what part of what Partita, if it is a Partita?

  • i think it's the second Partita in C minor, the Symphonie

  • The opening is the fourth partita, overture, then later it is the second partita, andante section of the first movement.

  • thank you! ;)

  • He looks like chespirito! haha

  • It's hilarious trying to listen to Murray speak English over the blathering German interpreter

  • @seebey1 yes they should have put subtitles below

  • What does EPK mean/stand for?

  • EPK = Electronic Press Kit

  • where is this from? can you get hold of it without the german dubbing???
