  • followed this to the letter and it hasn't worked for me yet ....i honestly think the poppers arent giving me enough combustion to light the magnesium any suggestions

  • Cool Thanks!

  • Is this consistent. Or did you have some duds once in a while?

  • @Leafjutsu Yes, you will get some duds once in a while. This depends on how much magnesium powder you have and if the snappers actually produced a spark.

  • @educatetowin i was thinking about using those paper thin glass x-mas balls instead of the paper, its harder and transfers the shock better, no? and instead of magnesium, which you can just buy instead of grinding yourself and its finer,or powdered aluminum maybe?i was thinking about maybe the powder from some fire crackers instead, or black powder or primer powder for reloading bullets, what do you think?

  • Thanks for the reply. I'll get the fine stuff then. By the way I'm west of toronto

  • Thanks for your reply but rocket propellant IS gunpowder. It's about $ 20 a pound.

what was your like? Very fine like sand? Or more like pellets. Or in between?

  • @sannitig Mine was very fine like sand not pellets. Hope that's helpful. Wow, $20 per pound - that's cheap! I wish I live in your area. Best of luck! Sipski

  • Are the snappers needed? Whathappens without them? What is their purpuse. I know the magnesium is for sparks which would ignite the gunpowder (fuel) but are the snappers REALLY needed? I can't find them anywhere!!!

  • @sannitig The snapper is needed if you are going to hit the ground or hard surfaces. Otherwise you can use a long fuse wire and throw it away from you. However, this would not be considered as impact smoke bomb.

  • @educatetowin Excellent! I have found the snappers!! very hard to find.

One last question. I am using gunpowder for this...what grade should I use? FFG is coarse FFFG is finer and FFFFG is super fine (don't really want to use that as it's really dangerous)

How coarse was your mixture of propellant? I'm thinking FFFG granularity. I'm going to buy it tomorrow so please advise! Thank you!

  • @sannitig I don't have access to gunpowder so I can not answer you about this. I would not play with gun powder since I believe it is probably more explosive than rocket propellant and probably more expensive. Thanks for watching.

  • smoke disperses too quickly

  • Be VERY careful when you're wrapping all of that up. Just putting a bit of pressure on some of those snap fireworks is enough to ignite the small amount of high explosives inside them. You do not want one of these lighting in your hands...

  • @Dandeman321 agreed. It must be done with care. If one does not know how to do it properly, please don't attempt it. Always do it outside.

  • lol ive been making home made fireworks for years with those rocket motors i started when i was 15

  • cool
