It doesn't do nothing. Without a helmet, you just take more damage than usual.

No, he can't charge his buster in 9... also, he can't slide either. Alas, that's what happens when you're out of action for a decade or so.

oh, its cuz the story is supposed to be dr.light is the bad guy...so the creators would make you think it really is him which obviously, its not...
