There are many people around the world that are so hungry they do not care about political challenges, economic situations, cultural commitments, they just need to eat, or they will die.
I agree that organizations need to think of long term solutions, but there are many people who need food now. I think this video illustrates the need for immediate hunger relief.
All the employment training, reading & writing classes, & counselling programs, cannot help someone who is dieing of starvation.
I agree that this video does not illustrate the deeper issues of poverty, but I think it perfectly communicates what we can afford to give up or "skip" to help people who's basic needs are not met. We have enough to spare, don't you think? Better to give one meal than to starve, right?
To solve the deeper issues of poverty takes time, dedication and commitment, and if we wait around until we have a strategy to solve poverty, many people will starve of hunger. Which is what is happening.
I think it means that you can skip a meal, movie, etc. and then see that immediately transported to a person in extreme poverty (jumping over all factors of political challenges, economic situation, cultural commitments, etc.). It is a slick advertisement, but it fails on so many levels to account for why poverty persists, what real service should be, and how to alleviate suffering thoughtfully. I would suggest skipping this agency and moving on to something more substantial and circumspect.
go to restaurants , order and then tell the you don't want? and should I ask the if they will give the warm meal to the kids in the back of the restaurant?
@yoguey You have missed the point. You have taken it too litteraly. This video is meant to show how giving up something can help others in Africa who have NOTHING to eat at all. Obviously, this video isn't meant to be taken for every detail. It is the general idea that counts. Giving up a drink at Starbucks and using the money you would have used to buy a days worth of food in Africa. They aren't going to take the actual food and give it to them. No need for that comment.
@peaceloveshine1 Except that there is no indication whatsoever that these children are in Africa. As a matter of fact, they are decidedly not African. They are probably South American. Africa is NOT the only area where children are starving. But in this affluent country of ours, we don't have to skip anything to feed starving children. Instead, donate to one of the organizations that actually helps them.
Well if poverty-stricken families were parked behind restaurants like this, there'd be no problem.
