  • Lightning bolt could take out a dragon with a good shot. 1d6 per magic user level, so if you're a fifth level magic user, which is the minimum to cast it, you could do 5d6 damage. Still, even a young red dragon is 9HD!

  • I wish I had gotten in on it from the ground floor, now it's all very confusing.

  • Awesome

  • I feel sorry for the dragon :/

  • @DarkWizardMonkey

That dragon killed my whole family!!!

  • This is a serious before they were stars video. at 0:05 you have Matthew Lilard, Alan Ruck at 0:11, and Jami Gertz at 0:12

  • Those were the basic rules that they were advertising. Wherein an adult red dragon usually only had 55 or so hit points. If the wizard scored a 20 on his to hit roll and diced over 28 points of damage the dragon would have been killed. Red Dragons are fire breathers and had no immunity to lightning. Such were the basic rules of my teenage introduction to the greatest fantasy role playing game of all time. I was just 15 in 1981 when I played my first game!

  • @deguello66 i bet you were a total fucking nerd at school, i have fond memories of harassing, degrading, belittling, people of your ilk at high school, good luck with the homo erotic role playing and all the best, xxxxx

  • @loutboy And now I continue to create fond memories of having your ilk scrub my toilets, keep my landscaping and picking up my garbage. For those that did such as you unto me then, that is what they are doing now; those that aren't in prison or dead from substance abuses. The joys of living beyond the worthless, criminal, pussies such as you. Try such things on me today, I would turn you into something that would make a Nazi puke! Please doubt me and try something............

  • @deguello66 lmfao!!!!!!!!!!!! turn me in to something? doubts......doubts....doubts, a 45 yr old pussy boy still dreaming of seeking revenge via role playing games, oh golly gosh i wish i did'nt try something now, i am feeling very afraid! you still live in mommys attic, masturbating furiously everytime an imaginary battle is lost, just for your info a real world exists outside, maybe venture out one day? all the best with approaching 50 and still acting like 12. xxxxxxx

  • @loutboy An entire paragraph. I would be impressed if I didn't know one of us had to write it for you. After all hands that drag knuckles are not conducive to holding writing instruments. If anyone is still trying to retain their childhood its you by attempting to show what a "big man" you were back then. It wasn't true then and it certainly isn't true now. Just another loud mouth troglodyte with booze for brains and courage and manners that would make a goat proud.

  • Chuck Norris killed a dragon with a one sided dice.....

  • pathfinder is the best system. in my experience

  • Comment removed

  • For real, did they really need to cheer... -_-

  • @stiffgrain Yeah, I guess that hearty "Huzzah!" they gave as their wizards and hobbits were plundering the red dragon's treasure really made them look like a bunch of nerds. Oh wait.....

  • @TrNdke

    lol!

  • @stiffgrain You should always cheer when you've completed a quest or defeated an awesome monster!

Every win is a victory! Treat it as such!! :D

  • Can you imagine a commercial like that being shown on TV now? All the brainwashed capitalist drones would be like "Huhhh use imagination?"

  • Oh god the nostalgia! lol... too cool

  • There is no running away actually, so here's a new phrase.

"Stay to fight, or DIE!!" :D

  • It didn't state that the lightning bolt "killed" the dragon, just "victory". Maybe this is one of the great DMs that actually have have monsters retreat if they are going to die.

We have campaigns in which old adversaries come back years later to try and get revenge.

  • I don't remember any red dragons from B3! Ha ha.

  • Corniest thing ever lol

  • I love how all the comments are about why girls do or don't play dnd.

It makes me glad to know that I wasn't the only one who thought, what the hell is that girl doing there?

  • Girl in pigtails is actress Jamie Gertz and the kid in glasses and aqua sweater is the actor that played Cameron Frye in Ferris Beuler movie.

  • I try to be as well rounded of a supernerd as possible... but between anime, gaming, and Linux rants, I never found enough time to play this.

*dies a little inside, is told to go outside*

  • of course, reverse mathmatics is out, so gals can play with natural progression of numbers. haha. "wuddya mean I have to subtract to win, there are dice! not dimpled balls..." {pout} ahhh, back in the day of engineers for all disciplines of science gathered about the sacred geometry of the polyhedron. mmmm. by the way....sorcery in bible MEANS (literally) SNAKE OIL SALESMAN...not witchcraft.

  • No wonder people thought it was satanic, with that terrifying cartoon dragon who can be taken out with a single lightning bolt... and actual girls playing! OMG! Girls = evil!

  • No way, I am a girl and I am cute and cuddely and I do DnD.

  • @Strijdparel how cute and cuddely are we talkin?

  • @Strijdparel As seen on the video I highly doubt it...

  • @azl899 Stole the text from out of my keyboard. Well said

  • @Strijdparel Haha, behoorlijk zelfverzekerd ;)

  • @Strijdparel hahahaha how many guys have bugged you over that comment?

  • Back when D&D was mysterious and cool before the comic book teen crap it turned into

  • nerds having some fun

  • I don't think I ever played a game of D&D where the players were so into it.

And I certainly never played a game with that many real girls at the table.

  • join the facebook group: sleeping dragon.

it has a chick in it!

  • Well, we have a d&d game and 3 girls playing it. ;)

  • Evidently, I was born in the wrong decade...

  • Had a short campaign running with 2 girls in it (half the players!). Courtesy of a friend of mine, of course, who's always chased out by the female sex = )

Been to RPGCon here in Brazil last weekend too, you wouldn't believe how many beautiful gals showed up. I'm sure some of the costumes won't leave my dreams for quite a while.

  • Pretty damn weak dragon to have been killed by a single lightning bolt.

  • @curbsideprophetlz

Well, obviously the Wizard isn't actually casting the spell. What is really happening is the Wizard is using his magical staff that can dual cast maximized, empowered lightning bolts, dealing a total of 180 damage.

  • Which, I might add, is more than enough to drop a Juvenile Red Dragon.

  • @curbsideprophetlz The wizard must have been at least level 18.

  • @curbsideprophetlz depends on who's casting it.

  • @curbsideprophetlz of course it gonna to die by an lighting bolt it haven't been upgrade to version 1.0 ish yet

  • @curbsideprophetlz Nah, a critical hit trough its nose hitting its brain :p

  • @ZtriDer Yeah magical crits are rad.

  • @ZtriDer Spells don't critical hit. Even if they did, it'd only be a damage multiplier, which is in no way reflected into a one shot kill.

  • @curbsideprophetlz

.... ztrider slaps curbsideprophetlz with a big can of irony and humore, critting for 100x damage multipyer for failing to notis the obscure way ztrider writes how the critical hits.

Well... Unlsess you play Rollemaster you wont have this obscure strange critical wierd hits to happen. Try not to be so seriouse when reading ;) Read what it sais and read between the line.

  • @curbsideprophetlz critical hit?

  • Who is doing the voice-over for this commercial? The voice sounds so familiar.

  • I'm trying to remember his voice as well. He did lots of trippy spoken word stuff in the 70s...

  • The narrator is Ken Nordine. At least it sounds like him.

  • Sounds like Don LaFontaine to me.

  • Is that Alan Ruck (Cameron from Ferris Bueller) at 0:11?

  • Considering the sinister connotations that D&D was saddled with at the time, you think the advertising agency would have been smarter than to show a bunch of frightened kids sitting around looking nervous to the tune of intense, possibly imaginary whispering.

  • We didn't get those commercials in Idaho. Because D&D is of the Dev - il!

  • That's funny. I remember this.

  • Use you lighting bolt.

  • damn....

  • i cant believe she 1 shotted that dragon.

  • obviously she was a DRAGONSLAYER!

    Duh commensense dude....

  • Whsiper:"You're playing the most phenomenal game ever created"...lol

  • awesome!

    VS

  • That was bizarre...

  • "Use you lightning bolt....."

  • Oh wow, It's even got the old TSR logo! That's older than dirt, man.

  • yes, but still not as old as John McCain.

    VS

  • ... O_O OLD.

  • i believe that's jamie gertz in the video...

  • ...and Alan Ruck in the blue-green sweater.
