I saw this guy tree times in Masterclass in Montréal and he is simply awesome ... Very natural, very easy to understand what he wants ... The kind of teacher everybody would like I'm sure.
This guy is a friggin machine; always very fast, and absolutley flawless. If you have'nt, you should see every YouTube video containing Mr. Screw you I'm a million times better than you or anyone else will ever be.
And honestly, guys, I could care less about his shaky(for him) transition to Super F at 2:52. Jorgen Van Rijen is the MAN!
Yea man, honestly, who gives a *&^%&*$ about that high F, it was still there. Did the people bitchin about that hear the rest of the stuff??!?!? Naysayers.....
Jurgen van Rijen is now the principal-trombonist by the world famous ''Concertgebouw Orkest'' in Amsterdam, and maybee better then Lindberg... this video/perform act is naturly an ''easy money'' performence, that's obvious....
it's pretty bad style...I think pryor would be kind of not impressed. No doubt the guy is great but he plays it so fast that it isn't pretty or even that good...many many many many mistakes.
people like him want me want to throw the trombone at the wall and give up!!! lol
Absolutely incredible.....planning on buying pryor's solos collection book published by carl fisher......dont expect to be able to play it tho any time soon lol
And because the New Trombone Collective mixes serious (and beautiful) pieces with these sort of acts (with still beautiful pieces ;-)) not only brassplayers come to their concerts. This way other people (like me) learn to know and appretiate the trombone.
3. That "drum dude" is Pierre Volders, the principal trombone of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. The whole point of this video is it is a funny spoof of the original arrangement for brass band (Sousa). The simplest part in the score, the bass drum, is put on center stage. The shtick is that the bass drummer wants more attention for his dull part and acts out during the performance to get it. Its not at all serious.
Jorgen Von Rigen didn't make a mistake, Arthur Pryor just wrote the piece wrong.

So far the most musical and technically superb version I've heard, IMHO, is from Mr Alain Trudel....

For the people that have no idea what they are watching:
1. The soloist is Jorgen van Rijen one of the finest trombone soloists to ever grace this planet
mahlerbone 4 years ago 2
2. This is Pryor's "Blue Bells of Scotland". It is not supposed to be romantic, it is a virtuosic trombone show piece (hence as fast as he can play).

very imposant technically , rude sometimes and really not very romantic , too sad that the drum guy steels the show , nice to see the sopran trombone

the first part is excellent... so clear
then what the heck is the drum dude doing????
end is a little too fast though still very impressive... hits every note
