How to Re Wig your American Girl Doll Part 1

I've run into a problem taking the wig off of my American Girl Doll. She was very old and the wig wasn't worth saving at all. So when I applied the non-acetone Nail Polish remover, it seemed to just absorb into the wig and no matter how much I applied or let it sit, the wig wouldn't budge. In frustration I began cutting away at it and now am left with the weft around the outline of the head. I cannot get it off! Can you help?

Good job! I know how scary it is, I removed a Himsted wig and have reglued....

the fear of ruining your doll is the "scary factor", but once you have done it, it empowers you to repair AG and other dolls!

Have pre-mattel dolls which feel are a better quality than the after mattel doll. Made clothing for the AG dolls way back and sold them at craft shows. So this video is great if wish to change hair.

I just finished this about 5 minutes ago. I decided to try something else. INstead of using nail polish remover I used really, really hot water. I also used a metal spoon and my hands for tools to pry the wig off. I also put a washcloth in front of her face/eyes. I got the wig off in about 10 minutes. I thought it would take like an hour or longer. So for all you people out there who don't own any non-acetone nail polish or a syringe use a metal spoon and hot water.

Best way to stop getting new wigs on dolls are to not remove from the box or don't touch the hair :)

@JoanCollins2009 True but these dolls were made for little girls. Many little girls enjoy actually playing with the dolls instead of staring at them. Like me. I am now 13, and I recieved a Marisol doll for my 8th birthday. I actually was at the American Girl Place because my mom promised me a doll, however I had no idea which one it would be. When we were eating at the cafe, they brought me a doll. And I hated her hair so I trimmed it. Cutting was fun so I just kept going. Now it looks horrible.

I think I want to re wing one of my dolls. I found her at an antique store and the tag read "Comb through hair on a regular basis." I was sure no one combed her hair in a while just from the way it looked, Lol. So when I got home, I washed her hair with water and soap. It turned out pretty good but it's still madded and gets tingled easily. Theres no use. Lol. So I think I'm going to re wig her. (=
