i remember this place like it was yesterday before chuckie cheese and showbiz pizza northwest highway and plano road , lots of great memories i miss it
I lived in the apartments right behind there around 1973. The apartments were named "Rolling Creek Apartments". My brother and I helped out there in return for free rides. I went there when it first opened. I was 8! 45 now- ahhhhh! Wish I could take my kids there. Sandy Lake Park is the closest thing available now.
wow,I used to go here when I was a child, I must have been 5,6,or 7. Does anyone have any more info, How much was it?All I remember is a few rides, and my Grandma telling me the cotton candy was santa clauses beard.

Also, was Penny Whistle Park mostly for kids aged 10 and under? It seems like I remember going there when I was 12, but I am not sure. All I remember was it was a place with rides and arcade games (like Pac Man).
Nope. Sadly, it went out of business on New Years Eve, 1994. The reason? Big competition. While amusement parks changed and got more sophisticated, the owners chose to cling to nostalgia. Expectations rose higher while Penny Whistles delivery on experience didn't. I was eight when I got the news that the park was closing down. My parents didn't tell me, nor my friends... I didn't even hear about it from a stranger. I heard it on the evening news! Talk about a punch in the stomach, huh? lol.
I went here in about 1982 and maybe 1983. My aunt always brought me and my brother and cousins. I remember riding those copter things in the air. I loved it. The one I went to was in Rowlett. Is this the same one?
I just turned 31 and was thinking back to fun stuff from my childhood in Dallas and Penny Whistle popped to mind. Thanks for posting this! Oh, and... am I the only one who used to get scared of the clown playing the organ??
I was just staring at the Google search page... trying to think of things from my early childhood that I loved and make me smile to this day when I come across them.. . .. I typed in Penny Whistle Park and smiled when I saw your post! :D
I'm 22 now, but gah I loved that place & remember it well... the creepy Gypsy lady in the glass box (lol).. . My favorite ride was The Whip! That's the ride where 2 kids fit in a little car...
Dude, I'm 22 also, and I loved Penny Whistle Park as a kid... During the weekend, if I wasn't at home watching Nickelodeon (back when it was amazing) or playing my NES, I was at Penny Whistle. Man, I wish the late '80s/early '90s would come back for just ONE DAY... :-)
Thanks a million for posting this video! I have literally spent years trying to find photos or videos of PWP. I have very fond memories of playing here as far back as the early 1980's. Again.....THANK YOU!!!
This is so cool ! I went here when I was just a small kiddo from Plano. I was thinking about my childhood the other night and the name Penny Whistle Park just came to me. I'm so glad you posted this. Not that I can remember anything about it really. But it means alot. The sign looks familiar though. Thank you again.
Penny Whistle was like my second home growing up as a little kid in Dallas, Texas. I can still remember the strong smell of cotton candy and popcorn, and the loud clanging bells of the boat ride. I can remember being in the car with my aunt, coming down E. Northwest Hwy and seeing the great, big clown sign. Whenever you saw the clown sign, you knew you were there... I will say this, though, it did look creepy when seeing it late at night lol. Thanks for the memories, jdewbre!! :-)
I remember my ex & I taking our daughter there when she was little in the early '80s. That brings back memories!

It was actually at Northwest Highway and Plano Road. Great memories, although this video was made about 10 years after the last time I was there.

So, 1978 for you? :-)
gameshowluvr86 2 years ago
I had, I think, my seventh birthday there. That would be 1977. It might have been my eighth. It's hard to remember that far back.

By the way, the building is still standing (It's Lindsay's Tree and Flower Shop now), and they painted it yellow. (sigh...)
