I had the distinct pleasure of seeing them perform this live many years ago in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia, PA. I was a teenager; I brought a carload of friends in my 57 Ford ranchwagon all tripped out with slicks, headers, and a racing engine. My God, those were indeed the days. Now I am fifty eight and longing for those moments again. They also performed Orange Blossum Special. Thank you for the memory! The Flea.
A remarkable cut, maybe the best cut (except for "Orange Blossom Special") from this remarkable LP.
Consider the time of it: Nixon is still in office, Viet Nam is still going on, the mega-mergers of the record companies are just beginning, and this tune, about this subject, is being listened to by a generation of hippies as they toke up.
I would think that respecting all religions is a virtue, but I can't agree that the story of Job is not about any particular affiliation. It was written within Judaism, maintained in Judaism, speaks of a monotheistic God, believes in the personality and reality of evil (not an illusion) believes in reward and punishment within a metaphysical and physical field of reality. But the wisdom of Job is something for all of humanity to share.
This isn't about religous affiliation. This is about the trials and tribulations that each and every one of us face on a daily basis. Regardless of our religious beliefs..Except Job faced a full truckload that all of us can only seek to comprehend and learn from.... Ahmen. Yours truly a man who respects ALL religions..
I saw Seatrain in concert about 1971, totally awesome. This is the first time I have heard this song in over 30 years. Where can I get downloads? Thanks so much!
Whoa. Saw Seatrain in probably 1969-1970 in around San Rafael California/ Marin County at a venue that existed at the time by the name of Pepperland. My hi-school gang dug this album. Van Morrisons album at the time was big with us too. Great.
@jarmeljake pepperland----------saw the waling lydia pense and cold blood and the great original tower of power................a outrageous show among many outrageous shows...ten years after being one.
@Busada I had this album also around 1971,most of the band are Jewish & it tells in some of the songs like "13 questions",Job,"Waiting for Elijah" he explains some of the Passover (Pesach) themes.
@RasMajnouni Yes, it was "Waiting for Elijah" that convinced me of the Jewish background of the band. It is interesting to see Jewish interpretations of Job as Israel's wife having an argument with God, with Christian interpretations where Job is a type of Christ, who righteous, suffered at God's hand, only to receive greater blessings. This prompted me to read much of Job again . . . quite the work of literature!
Yeah! I listened to my vinyl of this yesterday from 1971 and turned my 20 year old daughter onto the band. This album came out when I was a senior in high school. I always was impressed with Andy Kulberg's (Blues Project) bass. The vocals are awesome. Well recorded in England and produced by...the Beatles George Martin. I think this is the very first example of religious (Christian?) rock. But you can be an atheist and still love it. Good music is that way.
In between Led Zeppelin and Jim Hendrix comes Seatrain. I couldn't believe this group. They were unique. I figured I would give them a listen because FM only played the coolest of the cool. I ended up buying their album...Job...Despair Tire...LOVED this group. Willin' is one of their best, too. But this song was very special, and they pulled it off. I never would known of "Job" had it not been for Seatrain!! lol Thanks for the song and your video.
JOB couldn't find help, because no one knew the LORD. He alone knew HIM, but didn't know Satan. He said Once & Only of the Holy Name of the LORD "Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the LORD hath wrought this?" 12, 9. All those, who didn't know HIM, had great troubles, most of them fatally. He believed all calamities came to him from the LORD, instead of Satan. When he couldn't know & resolve them. The only Hope he'd was the Redeemer, Who's Himself: His Good Deeds Endure FOREVER!
"Bub" was used like "dude" or "Jack", it's short for "bubeleh" or something. But since he's talking to Satan, I guess it's short for "Beelzebub" in this case. Ha ha!
Wow..what a great JOB on one of my favorite songs...I was looking it up on Google, because "Deep Tracks" XM-40 just played it. I hadn't heard it for ages......
HA I seen Seatrain and the Birds 1970 ish Buffalo state collage Buffalo NY They did this song just like its done here but they made it last a lot longer totally amazing more fun than the Birds although when the Byrds did Eight Miles High it was not bad lasted maybe 20 mins or longer But give me seatrain any day
Hey Jrjul, yep, thats Blues Project. Also on that LP, Wake Me Shake Me. Just great. Saw Seatrain in the early 70's at Long Beach Arena with The Beach Boys. The crowd wouldn't let Seatrain off the stage. Great nite.
So sorry me bad, last post, "Flute Thing" by "Blues Project" not "Seatrain". knew I should not have burned up all those brain cells way back then. Peace, No Flames.
"Flute Thing" was a Blues Project song, but Andy Kulberg also performed it with Seatrain. It was part of the performance when I saw Seatrain open up for Janis Joplin and the Full Tilt Boogie Band at the Garden State Arts Center, Holmdel NJ, in August 1970.
Wow, So great to see Seatrain on You Tube. This was great and takes me back about 40 years. I still have the lp 9 actually 2 of them) I believe joan baez did "I'm Willin" but does anytone remember "Flute Thing" . Blew me away then ( well maybe it was the weed that helped) and still does. American Idol my ass!!!Peace to all, No Flames.
Thanx in advance, Can you come up with I'm Willin, Seatrain ofcourse. aCTUALLY, i'D LIKE TO ALMOSTHEARIT FROM AMNYONE. hOWEVER, i'MCERTAINLY HOPING IT WILL BE YOUR PERSONAL ALTERNATE. wOOPS, tHOSE CAPITRALS. dON'T FELL LIKE FIXING IT. tHINK YOU CAN READ IT.
That album was pretty good and their version of "I'm Willin'" I liked very much. They did it at a faster tempo than Little Feat did it. Orange Blossom Special rocked when these boys did it. Hey I meant to press the reply button and hit thumbs down by accident. Sorry bout that, please dont take offense.
thank you for posting this song .have record but this is so much easier and enjoyed the clip . may the god of job always shine his warm light on you and yours thanks israel
The song of life. from the first time I heard it on vinyl ( 1970 ) to now ( you tube of all places) one of my all time favorite bands. Still sorry my cd got chewed by my dog 5 years ago.
My favorite band. This song received considerable FM airplay, but their only charted single was "13 Questions," thanks to the idiots at their record label. In my opinion, "Out Where the Hills" is one of the greatest songs of the rock era.

I was 16 when this came out, in 1970. I really got a kick out of Seatrain's fusion of
rock, country and christian theme, all in one!
13 questions hooked me first, then the rest of this album, I'm still agnostic but sentimental for the folklore...
