Got a pupa just now too... I thought the larva was dying coz it was brown. When I saw it a few hours later, it was a yellow-green cocoon... Too bad I never actually sat down to watch it or record the process in stop-motion... -_-
Oops! You're right! Thanks! ... ^_^ ... yeah, that's what I meant eheheh... can't record a larva shedding its skin before the pupal stage using stop motion - unless it's a still model... hehe...
It's amazing how the shell is so hard, and they can still escape.

Stuff your face, sleep and wake up with a new set of threads. Sounds like an awesome life to me.

why is it so fat when it comes out of the cacoon?
lameyos123 2 years ago
@lameyos123 It's b/c of the liquid that needs to be pumped into the wings.
gemabigt 2 years ago
thanks lol i was scared o thought it was sick or obese or smthng
lameyos123 2 years ago
Because it's filled with fluid that it then uses to pump into its wings to spread them out.

Do you mean time-lapse? Stop-motion is an animation process lol

Lol at least you saw one in real life. I've never seen a cocoon before, or else I would do the same thing
alicewendon 3 years ago
Was it a butterfly? If it was it was not a cocoon, it was a chrysalis/pupa. Moths make a silk cocoon around them and then they change to pupa.
