A joy to watch (and hear!). I could be tempted to cross the big pond from Northern Ireland all the way to South Bend Indiana for a new pai of sticks If I knew you were going to be playing in the store.
Wow... I can't believe a search for Billy Canty came up with anything... My brother took lessons from him for a short period of time back in the mid to late 90s... William Bailey.. if Billy MIGHT remember him! I'm gonna link this to him so he can see it, he'll probably crap. Been a long time! Great solo!!
@aerozeplyn due to my "thumbs down", i take it people took my speechless " . . . " as a bad thing. as i re-watch billy's solo...it still leaves me speechless--amazing!! "O_O"
no need to be sarcastic. When I say sloppy doesn't mean that I don't respect you. I think you are very musical. I am no pro. I listen and I hear no good flow. The time signature is a little off sometimes. You play different styles with feel, but the styles/ rhythms do not mix quite well in the solo. By the way I play match grip. I will sent you a vid of my own as soon as it's ready and I am looking forward to your comment. If it's bad so be it. Maybe you can give me good advice then.
Smooth is quite true. Though it's hard to judge overall 'playing ability' with just drum soloing. I've worked with musicians/producers the world over and the one thing the industry cares about is how a drummer makes a song flow & groove. I've known too many soloists who could win a 'drum off' but couldn't sync w/an avg. 'wedding' band if a gun had been pressed to their head. Maybe Mr. Canty is equally skilled musically? Maybe there's a video or song out there as example? I'll keep lookin!
thats so horrible.. why did you do this? im not sure that you play music... no groove no swing just a little bit of technique.. but its not MUSIC .. WOW god ...shame on me.. i didnt want to look this vid sorry again..
hey idk if u remember me but i was there and dude ur rly good and what i found most interesting was 1. gunn was so fucking jealous when you toally rocked on the drums and 2. you play it so light and with so much rythm it looks so smooth rly nice job man.
my brain exploded at 2:01. and 2:54. and 3:19. and 3:22. been drumming about 10 years, i love and respect you for your classy and aggressive technique, and for showing me how much there is to keep striving for. mad props, bro! all the haters just can't hang!
first let me say that yes you are a very skilled drummer.....limb independance is tight but at some points felt forced.......but there is just a little bit of slop in there. and no i dont have any videos of myself....haha.....BUT UR GOOD.
That 2-3 clave sounds good against the soloing bro! I been working on that too. For some reason I can solo and groove against the 3-2 rumba clave, but when I flip it it becomes a pain in my ass. LOL
Well, I checked out your video collection. Once again....Nothing to show of your talent to back up your comment.Once again, please school me on my swing feel.
haha you're just as imature as hurting himself, you cannot expect everyone to love your playing, personally i missed the great groove and swing, just as hurting said, it was very square and pointy if you can follow it, not round enough.
wow making music a competition, great job. So you're not allowed to say your oppionion if you're not having videos of yourself at youtube. FUCKING ROFL lamest thing ive ever seen.
Its very easy to be critical about my playing. Just check out Vintagefr3aks videos and you will see the master minds that love to tell me how to play.
I think you make wonderful use of stopping the cymbols to give forward movement to the piece. Truly superb, and an inspiration to amateur drummers everywhere :)
People all seem to be commenting on his pedals or whatever... Did you see how fast his arms were going?! Wow.. I think you are awsome man, keep it up!
really creative , thhe only thing though is right after the latin part at 2;10 you filled and i was expecting a huge build up solo from there but you just went into the ride so that was kinda dissapointing
drumfreak, I believe that is a pedal for the hi-hat on the opposite side. You are an awesome drummer, I am trying to play that style myself, I also love you can keep the same mood throughout the whole session. That pattern is also very hard to play and keep in timing with those giant fills you did. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Kind of repetitive with the same style of beat. The bass drum was almost too much of a repetitive thing going. He seems to be real fast and strong. A little choppy, but real talented drummer too. Ok, everybody, I thought he was real good too. Really!!
Thank you dharmamark. Its about time I get a real comment with substance and biasis observance. Good job. Now, as a response to your bass drum comment. During the clinic, I was talking about how the average soloist gets up there and plays a bunch of crap that makes no musicial since. So, I demenstrated how easy it is to come up with a simple repetitive idea and build around it, telling a story and makeing solid statements while keeping the fundimential idea going on through out the solo.
Hahaha that was awsome! Though the people there didnt look to happy, except the guy behind the splashes. If I was there I would have cried tears of shear joy. Great drumming! =]

Love this. I MISSED 2 PHONE CALLS AND A KNOCK AT THE DOOR FOR THIS!
Is now equal fav' with Mangini solo...and that's really saying something! It's almost "cute" how he swaps those feet from pedal to pedal.
