  • ASAs are junk. they themselves encourage a false sense of security with drivers. if someone is not in the habit of adjusting the brakes themselves they eventually "slack off" on that portion of their inspections. besides... its just as easy to adjust manual slack adjusters as it is to check rod travel. youre under there anyway. for the record i actually check my ASA equipped vehicles along with those with manual adjusters

  • He forgot to tell you about the unseen page in that book that read-Attention slack adjusters are no longer required, just cage all brakes and safely continue until johnny DOT jacks you up.

  • i wish to know what kind of slacks are better? if automatic or the other ones., if someone can help me plz. thanks

  • @emerson5478 : Automatic Slack Adjusters are universal today; perhaps on some old farm trucks one could find a manually adjusted slack adjuster. All the best.

  • @part380 Doing 2 steps brake adjust my slack adjuster?

  • what a waste of time thx

  • safety notes written by road service guy & DOT COP TO GENERATE REVENUE FOR BOTH.

  • Johnny T. was later force to use the runaway truck ramp on the south side of Monteagle because he was too lazy to maintain his brakes.

  • @kdraper2007 ROTFL.

  • badly named video, he didn't adjust anything. I'm sure the D.O.T. guy will understand when he tells him that his brakes are out of adjustment because they are automatic adjusting slack adjusters. oh wait, that's right he'll laugh at you while he's writing the ticket that that guy will have to pay. I think the guy who posted this is a D.O.T. cop trying to drum up more revenue.

  • Police do they care about brakes , They will give you violation just to take yur money... these days....

Safety is second issue Money is number 1 ...

  • thank you, this info is important to know.

  • 2:32 how to fix it with right hand on head

  • I once got a ticket in Ontario for automatic slack adjusters being out of adjustment! Not only that, I had to pay a local to have them adjusted. A month later I got another ticket for the same thing at the same Weight Station! These blemishes stayed on my CVOR for a few years and I was refused a good job, because of this! The catch is it is illigal in Ontario to adjust your own brakes, but on the other hand everybody - the enforcement and employer wants the driver to do it. Fuck this job!

  • I when to the wrong school for my CDL this helped me a lot.

  • i never seen an auto slack stay in adjustment yet...

  • @mageac yes, the automatics even when new don't stay in adjustment. this guy needs to do more wrenching less reading crap written by someone who couldn't tell a slack adjuster from an air tank.

  • What should you do than? Replace the slack adjuster everytime it is 1/8" out of adjustment. I adjusted the ones on the volvo truck I bought in dec 09 and I haven't had them go out of adjustment since.

  • That is right!

ASA's only need to be adjusted at initial installation or when servicing the brakes where you need to back off the brake shoes. But keep in mind that ASA's do fail, so check them at yearly inspection. Meritor ASA's will not be damaged when backing off because the "pull pawl" needs to be disengaged to back them off. If you can back off a Meritor ASA then there is a problem. Meritor ASA are the ones with the 5/16" square adjusting head.

  • @onig59 never had an automatic slack adjuster that automatically adjusted, even on the new tractor I was driving.

  • @kdraper2007 I assume you also keep you rig well greased then. I drive a 98 Freightliner that was from up state NY and everything is rusted to shit on the axels and brake chambers. I also drive through mud up to my axels always getting mud caked on everything. I just keep everything cleaned and well greased it keeps the dirt pushed out and mine are tight and work fine.

  • I am glad this was posted the guys at my shop do this all the time . I won't do it any more. I will probably have to listen to them bitch, but the hell with them.

  • Good video wish more drivers would listen to the law tho.
