Regarding children, what on earth is wrong with teaching about other ways of life? If your child's mind is so easily swayed by knowledge then you have more problems than you know of. Try teaching tolerance, give them all the knowledge they can retain and turn off the TV to explain your personal views - then let them make up their own minds. I think a stupid population is a much greater threat than overpopulation.
Who cares what causes homosexuality or bisexuality. What we know is it is not a choice, it is not contagious and it is not a threat to society in any objective sense. Those who happen to be gay deserve the same respect and rights as heterosexuals in a nation that professes to be a beacon of freedom.

Here in Massachusetts we've had legal same-sex marriage since May of 2004. Life goes on, straights still marry, we haven't been hit by an act of God. Except for a very small but vocal minority most MA citizens just don't give a damn anymore. We've seen first hand it's no big deal. And to those who believe Civil Unions cut it - they don't. Separate but equal doesn't/shouldn't fly in this country. If we're "equal" enough to pay taxes and all that BS we're equal enough for full civil rights.
As the current legal counsel for Great Affinity, I say, no one/no group should claim they are against same-sex discrimination (like CA does) and also claim they are against same-sex marriage.
As said on part one, "Officially Great Affinity has a non-discrimination policy against those of either sexual orientation, Proposition 8 is against our policy. Great Affinity is officially against proposition 8."

Regarding children, what on earth is wrong with teaching about other ways of life? If your child's mind is so easily swayed by knowledge then you have more problems than you know of. Try teaching tolerance, give them all the knowledge they can retain and turn off the TV to explain your personal views - then let them make up their own minds. I don't understand what is so wrong about showing all the different types of love in the world, but teaching about violence, murder and slavery is just fine.

I support prop 8. I believe in the definition of marriage to be between a man and a woman. I disagree with the moral concept of homosexuality and same-sex marriage. However, I do not hate, and I am not intolerant of the choice to be gay.

I don't exactly appreciate the sight of gay people kissing (unless we're talking hot gay women, in which case AY CARAMBA!) but I support their right to merry. Can't say I'd go as far as to participate in their rallies (too lazy) but I don't see any harm in VOTING for their equal rights. If it means so much to them why not let them have it already instead of giving them hard time. Life's too short. I know a lot of people won't agree; I sure didn't overcome my intolerance towards gays in one day.

I try, sir. I come from one of the many parts of the world that are most conservative concerning the subject. Like they say, we are products of our environment so it's hard not to be close-minded and prejudicial like our social circle. It sort of becomes a norm. What's astounding though is that while even people like me can change the way they see things, some of those born and raised on this "land of the free" refuse to open their minds. Gay Marriage is not a law based issue.
If two gay men or women want to get married, then why shouldn't they? Just because they can't produce offspring does not illegitimize their commitment or relatonship
Allowing gay marriage does not impose any sort of oppression on anyone, but forbidding gay marriage does impose an oppressive belief on marginalized members of society

Government shouldn't be in the marriage business, but since it is it needs to respect the rights of gays and lesbians to marry. The solution is to make all unions legal unions and leave "marriage" up to the church of one's choice. In a free country limiting the rights of one group threatens the rights of all.
Homosexuality is not moral issue, its a biological phenomenon observed among all mammal species hence perfectly natural.

Forget religion; consider evolution. Higher life forms as species persist in nature because of sexual reproduction. Organisms that can't reproduce sexually lose the evolutionary battle because they fail to contribute their genes. Although homosexuality is present in nature, it is an abberation and occurs in a very small minor percentage because its very presence is counter to evolutionary persistence for higher life forms. A species that could not reproduce sexually would be less able to adapt.

The battle is not over rights; it is over public acceptance and condolance of a non-traditional--non-adaptive--life-style. Science has not yet definitively shown what causes same-gender attraction. To be sure, there is a biological/genetic component; there is also an environmental component (whether it be embryonic, neonatal, familial, social or cultural, or some combination). What those are and how much they effect the outcome are unknown.

True, the genetic component is unchangeable. However, by definition, a "part" or "component" is not a whole, and what prop 8 people are fighting for is influence over variables that are changeable. The whole person is determined by more than just genes; as humans we are the product of how our genes and neurophysiology interact with our various experiences; many of those experiences occur in familial, social and cultural contexts--all contexts affected by the societal determination of marriage.

Limiting their rights or shaming them into the closet will not make them go away. It only diminishes our humanity. Why not also punish those who give birth to homosexuals?

Since it cannot be proven what factors or combination thereof cause homosexuality, removing some of the environmental possibilities: social, cultural, familial, is not really a possibility. We don't know what effect socio-cultural norms have on feelings of same-sex attraction, particularly given confusing social, sexual and individual identity in the tween, teen and early twenties.
I think a stupid population is a much greater threat than overpopulation.

Those who happen to be gay deserve the same respect and rights as heterosexuals in a nation that professes to be a beacon of freedom.

Here in Massachusetts we've had legal same-sex marriage since May of 2004. Life goes on, straights still marry, we haven't been hit by an act of God. Except for a very small but vocal minority most MA citizens just don't give a damn anymore. We've seen first hand it's no big deal. And to those who believe Civil Unions cut it - they don't. Separate but equal doesn't/shouldn't fly in this country. If we're "equal" enough to pay taxes and all that BS we're equal enough for full civil rights.
