I'm having a presentation about child abuse this Monday. And I cant say how much this awfulness does to me. It makes my cry and at the same time so PISSED that people can do this to these lovely gorgeous children.

for me as a father and as some who works with kids for a job. to see something of this nature be brought to everyones attention that is so heart compelling is awsome. so now we as a society/New Zealanders can actually do something about it rather than looking the other way. Counselling is good, the fact I can bond and let my heart out too, but still I am now idle and weak, afraid to face life because I have come to hate who I am, though I am a good person, I make many mistakes and cauz so much drama in tears, in paranoir, just a pain in the butt. My life feels robbed of happiness I could be feeling, tho I try it is sooooo darn hard, I always feel behind and lower than everyone else. Always on the outside of a group feeling different.
Then I had a wake up call that forced me to face reality, because at the ,end of the day I realised the people I associated with didn't really give a dam.. they weren't my true friends, vicious cycles just kept happening and I ended up getting drained and to the brink - breaking point. I am seeking answers and help.
I have my say on there and also have described my experience which is still a secret and would cauz so much strife if I tried to make peace with the family - explaining hw it really truly seriously affected me and hw lost I still feel as a human being at 31. I am reading now and alot calmer with life. Before I was impulsing on anything fun, no matter how dangerous or wrekless my life become - as long as it distracted the pain.

I am a yank social worker who looks to Aotearoa / New Zealand professionally as well as personally. I don't know very much what it's like to be a kiwi, or a Maori, or a Pakeha... only little bits, enough to know each word has a content which can be "loaded" when read by someone from ANZ.
Our countries face similar challenges, and sometimes similar soulutions. Children must trust us enough to tell us, and we must be careful enough to listen.

You are so right -- it is not about colour at all. Never was, nor about race. But rates of violence and child abuse are strongly correlated to poverty, deprivation and a sense of hopelessness. Counselling is good, the fact I can bond and let my heart out too, but still I am now idle and weak, afraid to face life because I have come to hate who I am, though I am a good person, I make many mistakes and cauz so much drama in tears, in paranoir, just a pain in the butt. My life feels robbed of happiness I could be feeling, tho I try it is sooooo darn hard, I always feel behind and lower than everyone else. Always on the outside of a group feeling different.

Then I had a wake up call that forced me to face reality, because at the ,end of the day I realised the people I associated with didn't really give a dam.. they weren't my true friends, vicious cycles just kept happening and I ended up getting drained and to the brink - breaking point. I have my say on there and also have described my experience which is still a secret and would cauz so much strife if I tried to make peace with the family - explaining hw it really truly seriously affected me and hw lost I still feel as a human being at 31. I am reading now and alot calmer with life. Before I was impulsing on anything fun, no matter how dangerous or wrekless my life become - as long as it distracted the pain.

these abusers are allowed to get away with it because the new zealand social services are crap the justice system is pathetic if you killed or tortured an animal your go to jail more years than someones whos taken a human life, its true! look it up also be surprised NZs interperatation of a life sentence, it really means serving only 7 years and then your free on good behaviour or paroled and prisons like a holiday camp, some commit crimes just to go back inside cos they get fed better.

The ad campaigns don't do jack for the abusers themselves but if they open the eyes of one next door neighbour of a child being abused then that's a job done. Have a good one.

I am a yank social worker who looks to Aotearoa / New Zealand professionally as well as personally. I don't know very much what it's like to be a kiwi, or a Maori, or a Pakeha... only little bits, enough to know each word has a content which can be "loaded" when read by someone from ANZ.
Our countries face similar challenges, and sometimes similar soulutions. Children must trust us enough to tell us, and we must be careful enough to listen.

To combat abuse we need to care about these people not just 'call the police'.

HA! Child abuse happens everywhere but NZ is the 4th highest in the developed countries. It is mainly a maori problem as domestic violence rages amongst Maori are eight times higher than the rate for non-Maori, and child abuse, twelve times higher. So much for the "treaty" it doesnt mean anything anymore. Its not about peace when u hit ur kid and skip off to the pub!!! IDIOTS!

You are so right -- it is not about colour at all. Never was, nor about race. But rates of violence and child abuse are strongly correlated to poverty, deprivation and a sense of hopelessness. Maori have these things in higher proportion than non-Maori. This is a reason -- it is not an excuse -- there are NO EXCUSES. But if you want real solutions, you need to look to the causes, how abusers got to those situations and how to break the cycles and avoid CA in the future. Stop kicking the dog!

We as a nation of 'humans' should be disgusted at what is happening to our children. What can we do? We need to MAKE our government sit up and take notice, its time to stop all this PC bullshit... dont lock the mongrels up, hang them, electrocute them.. make the laws against child abuse so hard, that maybe they will think twice about what they are about to do or are doing.
