The last time I saw an Elton John concert I wish to God he had been enhancing his shell of a voice with playback. He's lost 80% of his vocal ability over the last thirty years.

A lot of pop singers who don't have the best vocal abilities lip synch part of their concert so the fans have a more enjoyable experience. Its about the overall entertainment aspect of the show.
Some great singers just stand there and sing with no dancers or production at all.
Concerts and live events arnt 100% about the quality of the performers and how well they can sing live.
