  • Lovely song. Thank you. I wish I could also find "Winter Sun", and a short song which began something like "When I walk through the woods, the birds begin their singing...."

  • Beige!

  • SO GREAT MORE MORE

  • Im from yorkshire, but first heard this fantastic group in the 70s on the coach from strangeways,to preston jail, their songs have helped me through broken hearts,i play their music so much that even my daughter to-day knows each song word for word,i find that their songs remind me of all times in my life, good and sad,and when alone listening often have a little cry,i find lyndas voice so haunting realy realy helped me get through life,id love to change from being yorks,to lancs.lol

  • Absolutely wonderful!

Thank you Jennie for sharing this.

    MV

  • Tha's welcome Lad.

    Jennie.

  • @MisterVirtual

I don't think Eddie got the recognition he deserved, do you?

    Jennie.

  • Yes, Jennie. I totally agree with you.

    MV

  • a fab song and band are they still around?

  • George and Eddie have passed away, but John brought an album out called 'Just Me.' Colin may still be teaching.

    Jennie.

  • A Lancashire version of the 'Mamas and the Papa's ! lol

  • Sijmply Awesome

  • I can strongly recommend Lynda and John's new cds available through their 5pp website. What songs! What a beautiful voice Lynda has. That the group never became superstars is testament to the fact there is no justice in the world. They say another CD is out soon with more songs old and new so bring it on! One of my favourite Meeks / Radcliffe compositions is Butterflies & Songbirds. Anyone have a live version of that to post?

  • I'll try to find it for you.

    Jennie.

  • linda's gorgeous voice once again evokes character and charm in this timely reminder of a great band from yesteryear.

  • Brilliant and thank you. Jennie. X

  • fivepenny piece were supremely evocative - their songs of life 'up north' were timeless and beautiful, and intricately crafted. what memories!

  • Is there a Greatest Hits or Best Of album out there which includes most or all of the songs on offer here?I was only 5 when this was screened but there is a warmth and a wit to the fivepenny piece's music which is engaging.Any information would be gratefully appreciated.

  • oh my days of glory, i used to work with eddie crotty last year at tesco in stalybridge, he was a butcher!!....LEGEND

  • Tnx for making this memory real, thought Id'e never hear it again!!.

  • Great memories

  • could anyone tell me where this concert was...was it in Rochdale Town Hall?? and what year was it?...I remember going with my Dad years ago...all comments greatly appreciated...

  • This is the best quality video I have seen yet on this site, well done Wainright, any more out there?. Anybody got any TV recordings

that they will share for us 5pp starved fans.

What can we do to encourage TV companies to re-run all the footage that exists.

  • A very tuneful singing group who harmonise great, to a large extent because of Linda's fine voice.Once heard them singing ' johnny beggar '

on an LP. It would be good if someone could put that on YOU TUBE

  • a real blast from the past can any one post big jim was a worm

  • I'd love to put one of 5pps records on facebook but I'm new to YouTube, Can I do it and how.

  • excellent more of theses if possible

    Jennie.

  • @Kittielips

    Yes, Jennie, they are.

What year was this song originally released?

    Who wrote it?

    MV

  • I think it was released at the end of the 70's; if I'm correct, John Meeks and Colin Radcliffe co-wrote it.

    Jennie.

  • If there is any chance of anybody having any more live videos could you please e-mail me

    thanks

  • I would dearly love to post more videos of Fivepenny Piece. I have been told that I may be getting the chance to upload some more video clips of this *excellent* group in the next month or so. Can say no more for now, but it should be good news for us 5pp fans.
