It's sad that here in Oregon, USA, when you bring up bands like Riverside and Porcupine Tree people just say, "Uhhh. What's a Porcupine Tree?" The only reason people here listen to Opeth is because they are also death metal. It's so sad that the most beautiful and expressive music has eluded so many and yet all the corporate music is so popular.

@Soilwar You cant call Opeth bullshit, they perform a totally different genre of metal, and they're probably the best at it. and whoever mentioned that they sound like opeth probably meant that as in style wise since they're a blend of atmospheric metal just like opeth, porcupine tree, mars volta, and even vocally, Mariusz Duda and Akerfeldt sound similar when they perform certain low pitched atmospheric tracks (hope leaves, still day beneath the sun etc.)

@bartosso I think its the fact that we (people in the states) are not used to hearing bands from Poland. I can only think of a few myself, and thats only because I've been exposed to them through last.fm thanks to Porcupine Tree. I do have to say, Riverside's style of music is MUCH better than whats popular in the states. I'm sick and tired of all the whiny "my parents hate me" crap. Anyway, don't take offense. Riverside is a great band!

I have to disagree.Katatonia and Opeth besides their simillarities in the atmoshere they give off are a lot different bands.Katatonia specialise in a bleak kind of metal!melodies rythms vocals are in a vibe of pessimism where chords are getting more haunted by the minute.Opeth are dynamic in their own way and melodic in patterns different than other bands.I wouldn't put in contrast those2 great bands.

Why are all the comments here just arguments about what bands Riverside sound like? I'm not into metal and Prog-rock, I listen to Goth and Darkwave, so I cannot compare them to anything, all I know is, that Riverside are a damn good band, they are the only prog/metal band I listen to. im assuming you mean Mikael, and youre on drugs. this band is very alternative and uses lots of keyboard effects that Opeth have never touched. his voice is absolutely nowhere as clean as Mikaels. Opeth are not alternative at ALL and only recently have started using keyboards and only for backing tracks and synths. this band sounds a lot like Katatonia and Anekdoten, and this song reminds me a lot of A Perfect Circle. this is NOWHERE in comparison to Opeth's musicality and skill
