  • Sorry my english. I'm brasilian.

  • You have great, man! These chords really helped me. Thank you.

  • this guy talk way to much show your lesson and leave at that by the end of his lesson i have gone nuts from his useless chatter

  • @blackbiker1961 They're free to watch. Don't like it, don't watch it and then complain about it.

  • Cdim is a ugly chord... diatonic scale :(

  • guitar noob here, y does he have 5 strings

  • @cha00halo ah i see he has 6 difficult to see

  • @cha00halo ah i see he has 6 difficult to see

  • hey man, this lesson was very helpful, you are a very good teacher.

  • on the first one, i dont get why you don'T just do a barre on the third fret with your first finger and then place your second and third fingers on the 4th fret of respectfully the 4th and 5th chord?

  • @SkunkCommand because the A string has to ring open, maybe?

  • Honestly man, I think you're an absolute legend for all these lessons, thanks man!

  • You are amazing! Thanks!

  • what the heck is that at the end!?

  • Thanks so much for your lessons. They're a blessing for most of us. Happy Holidays to you and yours!

  • 109 dislikes! like this if you think they are aliens

  • @AdyDevil12 shut up

  • THank You Sir!!!!!!!!!! Great Video

  • Great Stuff!! Thanks!

  • Hey Justin, I always watch your vids, they are superior, when I watched this one you kept referring the Gdim and Cdim chord as that, which would be 1-b3-b5, these are dim7th chords correct...seeing how all the other chords are 7th's...just checking...thx

  • Does your guitar need re-stringing? Your strings look a little black :D

  • the animal ending jajaja!! good class bro...

  • Dude, I don't understand the negative comments about you talking too much! That is by far the most concise, and valuable lesson on playing jazz that I have ever seen. I've been playing rock for many years and just started taking an interest in jazz. Great lesson! I am not classically trained (I only know the notes on the 1st position of the fret board) so I greatly appreciated the breakdown into the transferable grip formations! Thank you!

  • ????

  • can u use your thumb 4 root notes on 6th string

  • @just4mak sure!!! i do it all the time

  • Here´s a lesson on weird chords and how to use em!

    /watch?v=eiW92OMacpU

  • What's the name of the book that you recommended? I'm sorry my english is not so good so I couldn't understand u_u

  • @devilskate64

It's called a "Real Book", but it's a generic name for books with jazz standards in them. Not all of them are great, get the one he gives the name of at the end of the video to be sure :) There's a wikipedia article on the Real Book if you want to know more

  • Great lessons! Best ever

  • dude you talk to much.. jus show the chords fret string and finger placement..blah blah blah blah..show the finger positions as u say the chords...blah blah blah blah

  • Nice thanks I'm going to look for real book

  • 9:00 minutes later... bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla, uff, please just play ok... 9:38... holy shit, this guy has a large tongue bla bla bla

  • I have always played the m7 rooted on the 6th string with index on 6th, middle on 4th, ring on 3rd and pinky on 2nd. This sets you up for changes better than the bar version (IMO).

  • u make weerd faces when playing the chrods at the beggininng :)

  • Thank You Justin! I subscribed. This man is giving us a master class for free out of the kindness of his own heart.

  • the real book .. or .. the new real book?

  • are those black beauty strings?

  • fuck me. this is how it felt way back when i was learning just the major and minor chords!

  • thank you.

  • I need more time to learn this.

  • "Please hit the little orange button" R.I.P. Old Subscribe Button <3

  • great communicator and totally helpful. may be improve showing the 5th string root chords starting at 10th fret sticking with G, also inverting the finger placements film frame to show finger positions from student's own point of view --- surprisingly helpful when you see it done.

  • I would pay to see him strum with everything behind him on max volume...

  • ne dia tehnik chord patitur guitar jazz yg w cari....lumayanlah wat tambah-2 skill n senam jari....!!

  • Very very good video, thanks man!

  • i like my guitar. A LOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 2:05 Starts showing chords

Thumbs up so people can see

  • Passion,.that's it!

  • @BlikeNave yeah he doesnt mention the most basic of the most basic chord progression, the Major7th1-4-5. and it can be on any fret in whatever key. Idk i understand where your coming from but ive been playing for almost two years and all self taught and jazz and blues are my shyt and best I play. and those arent basic, they are just 10 random jazz chords. trust, there are ALOT of jazz chords.

  • Justin, I showed you to my friend, expressing honestly that you "helped me with the very basics, all the way to the most advanced and complex theoretical tricks that I know. He's like a jazz player's secret weapon, and he uses the basics as building blocks to explain more complex ideas. Here's the basics chord video that I watched that helped me out when I was starting." Then I linked him to this video. To my fellow hungry guitarists: it would be wise to explore Mr. Sandercoe's videos ;]

  • Oh no its not, it's just ivisibidible

  • Your little E string is brokeded

  • i see the nails....

  • beautiful tone bro.

  • you make things seem so complicated and confuse some concepts of putting jazz chords together.

  • @gabrielhuanosto Lol! Are you kidding me? Well explain yourself specifically then: when does he confuse the concepts together? I just am shocked cuz this guy taught me so much and I always felt it was so clear. No disrepect, but I'm just so surpirsed!

  • nice guitar man

  • someone please translate Portuguese!!!!!

  • Justin I think you should have included an Augmented chord shape. I use it all the time. Nice newbie video though.

  • I like turtles

  • like i just dont understand why people would dislike this

  • thanks!

  • Stick to the subject. Your immature comments just show up your ignorance.Grow up stupid little boy!

  • I use all four fingers to play my min7 chords. No right or wrong way I guess...

  • @rhythmblues6 True. Some of my friends play the Maj 7 on the low string root with their thumb! Although I believe that some voicings have benefits if played a certain way. For instance it is easy for me to play a minor 9 if I bar the minor 7 (low string root). So from low to High string it'd be like, 5 x 5 5 5 7. Bar the 5's with your first finger then slap on the ninth with one of your free ones. Playing your way favors the Minor 11 (nice chord). 5 x 5 5 3 x . What do ya think?

  • The first chord isn't a G Major 7

  • @SuicideAlexis okay. i guess the 1st chord is an F#dom7#5b9 then? shutup and learn

  • @Bayo106 Fag

  • Thanks man

I have played jazz piano for 12 years, fucked around with the guitar alittle bit now

  • thanks for lesson very good!

  • are these shapes movable? i mean can these be applied to other keys?

  • @wildwestpoint I have not come across a chord that wasn't movable yet.

  • you use G as an example are these

  • you rock!!!!

  • i love u man! u good teacher and good guitarist

    u realy good

  • arr i got cramp in my fingers

  • I LIKE THE WAY THIS DUDE ALSO DISCUSSES HIS RIGHT (STRUMMING) HAND AND NOT JUST THE CHORDING HAND. VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW HOW TO ATTACK WITH THE PLUCKING HAND - A LOT OF THESE TYPE VIDEO'S DON' DO THIS. THANKS! NICE JOB.

  • Thanks for the lesson - really good stuff!

  • Great! Thank you.

  • what jazz songs do you recommend for an intermediate guitarist?

  • my name is jazz

  • are these movable shapes?

  • great stuff!

  • /watch?v=j7mgMdKQXFc

  • @TableEnMousse well that was a waste of fucking time

  • where is lesson 2? :(

  • do you snort coke off your nails?

  • i noticed your nails are extremely long, do you use them to play?

  • your great man!

  • He mentions plucking the chords. I wasn't sure if it was "correct" or not but found out that was the only way I could play rhythm to some Charlie Parker tunes because the changes are so fast.

  • this was awesomness:)

  • Comment removed

  • That minor7thb5th (or half-diminished7th) chord is a pain to play; which is why I play the root with my thumb. Just make sure you switch your Little finger and Ring finger with your Middle and Ring finger.

  • noop

  • Cut your fingernails!

  • @j0ker79r Fingernails are used like picks. Many jazz players and all classical players do this.

  • This guy is the best teacher.

  • I like the way you spoke/shouted non-stop...through the entire video.

  • great video, thanks. It would make things so much easier though if you filmed from the POV of the player or over his shoulder.

  • that second chord is not a g 7

  • @baltimore1100 yes it is. the notes are G-F-B-D. G major with the minor seventh :D

  • You rule Justin. Best explainer/talker out here if you ask me (and you do!). I find myself finding you all the time...and listening to you! Always interesting even if I've 'passed' that particular theme/lesson. Love Ya!

    /Richard (Sweden)

  • WTF AT THE END OF THE VIDEO ?

  • @TableEnMousse Tasmanian devil

  • wow jazz chords sound cool.

  • I like cheeseburgers.

  • @dwilmer7 That's how you look like.

  • @dwilmer7 the cheeseburger song! :D

  • we don't give a f ** k

  • @DJDrSciFi hahaha u forgot alcohol dude

  • @pirrungon no he didn't, you're just an alcoholic

  • @DJDrSciFi In that order?

  • @AreaCode978 yes, from least to most important

  • Hey Justin, thank you for all the videos you do and all the instruction. I think once you fall in love with something, you can't help sharing it with the world - in this case, it's the guitar.

  • Thank u!

  • i love u man ur the man thanks man easy to understand ! 5stars!!

  • just wanted to point out that when fingering the maj7 chord, root on 6th string that it is not necessary to mute the note on the high E (F# in your example of a Gmaj7) as it is one of the notes that make up that chord. But yes... if you only want to use the other 4 notes that is your choice. I just know that in one of my finger style jazz compositions I specifically use that note on the high E as part of my melody line.

  • @RedroomStudios F# is the major 7th of Gmaj7

Calling it "one of the notes that make up that chord"

seems a bit lazy and lacks clarity I would say.

but whatever works for Ya. . .

  • @guitarsurfer2010 ah touche! you're right I should have been more specific! but my point stands... there is no need to mute it, unless you arent planning on playing that note...

  • @RedroomStudios I would like to play guitar with you

one day. you seem to be into guitar arranging, as am I.

    Aloha, Tom

  • Top lesson! well done.

  • Thanks Justin! From the UK.

  • like what you do man.its good easy and understandable. it is empowering. keep up. like my music teacher once told me,' therz owayz room for development'.success is never final- churchill, the key is to keep on the excellent work.adios

  • C dim is C Eb Gb

    or 1 3 5

    Cdim7 is C Eb Gb A

    or 1 3 5 7

  • @guitarsurfer2010 to be a bit more accurate with the spelling,

    Dim = 1, b3, b5 and Dim7 = 1, b3, b5, bb7

  • @RedroomStudios You are correct.

However one would ask "what is the 5th of a Cdim7 chord"?

answer Gb. zkete was asking the difference between Cdim and Cdim7.

Not how to form a Cdim7 from a Cmajor scale.

  • @guitarsurfer2010 mmm, maybe... but it seems a bit lazy and lacks clarity I would say. When I see 1 3 5 7 that is a maj 7 chord spelling.to me. But whatever works for ya...

  • @RedroomStudios Remember I was helping a beginner musician.

Your formula did'nt seem to me to to be as helpful to a neophyte

    in answering his question.

And by the way C7 doesnt exist in the key of C major

It is the V chord of F major.

But all this is technical analism.

I am a jazz artist, the rules are forgotten on the bandstand.

  • @guitarsurfer2010 I disagee - trying to simplify chord spellings can only lead to confusion either now or down the road... plus I never said C7 dominant (which would be 1 3 5 b7)... I said maj7 (no root or key in particular) and was speaking of it as a stand alone chord spelling in any case. Perhaps you have a different way of understanding music?

  • @RedroomStudios Yes brother. I think of Cdim7 as a C7 with a lowered

3 5 and 7. this thinking works great on the fretboard.

    Also C# dim7 I think C7 with a raised Root.

Again it works great on the neck. Keep Playing !

  • zkete You are correct. There are 6 strings. my mistake looks like 5 at first A Cdim is C Eb Gb or 1 3 5 A Cdim7 is C Eb Gb A or 1 3 5 7 Take a C7 chord C E G Bb and lower the 3 5 and 7 it forms Cdim7
  • Comment removed

  • is there a difference between a dim chord and a dim7 chord?

  • @zkete hello

I answered your dim chord question in the comments section

    Aloha guitarsurfer2010

  • @guitarsurfer2010 Ok thank you

  • Comment removed

  • @guitarsurfer2010 there are clearly six...

  • I think you need more amplifiers in the background...

  • im using my pinky for the 3 chord as the barree. its better then you have more possibilities for variations

  • thats it im suscribing

  • i like your accent.

  • Why are you using a Country/Blues guitar to play Jazz?

  • @Jubal24

That's hilarious, it's a telecaster with some sort of mini bucker in the bridge. Even so, it doesn't matter, if you can play, you can play jazz on a seven string metal guitar with a floyd rose! The country link with telecasters is just a stereo typed generalization. Ever heard of Ted Greene or scotty anderson?
