Ali took way too many priced fights in such a short amount of time. Beating every top contender out there and doing so one after another in just months will take a toll on you. Thats why Ali became shot not to long after his amazing victory against Foreman. But I guess that was Ali for you, he wanted to please the people and show he would fight anyone and anytime. This fight fully got him shot as a fighter. His body had trouble making weight after Manila and his age didn't help. Ali GOAT.
A little morbid my observation but everyone in Frazier's corner for this fight (including Joe obviously) has passed. From Ali's, I believe Bundini is the only one whose dead.
The scores at the end of the fight did not reflect the intensity of the fight, for it was really much closer: 8-5-1, 8-2-4 and 9-3-2, in the order of ali-frazier-even. The referee Carlos Padilla's was the closest, he had it even at 5-5-1 after 11 rounds. But Ali won the last three rounds in his scorecard.
@twiskins its TKO( if the opponent is deemed unable to continue .. here Joe with the blows from Ali had his right eye closed ).Watching round 14, Eddie Futch decided to stop the fight between rounds rather than risk a similar or worse fate for Frazier in the 15th. Its not KO moron , go n watch cartoon n/w it'll b easy for you .
Former heavyweight world champion Joe Frazier was arrested in February 2004 after police responded to a 911 domestic violence call from his North Philadelphia home. When police arrived a woman, the mother of Frazier's son, answered the door. She told the police that Frazier had hit her and there were injuries to her face to back up the claim. The charges were later dropped, after the woman refused to testify against Frazier.
Frazier said he'd have risked his life to fight that last round and was heard protesting, what more do you want? You should get off the Ali bandwagon.
The funny thing is Ali told his corner to cut his gloves since he was going to quit because he didn't think he could go on anymore. You can see the surprise on his face when Frazier threw in the towell first.
look at all those punches which Ali lands on Frazier's temples in the last two rounds! I respect Joe a lot, he was, as Ali says at the end of the fight, "the greatest fighter of all time second to me"! But Joe was very much in trouble in the last rounds, no more huge left hooks, not even to the body. Ali won the bout, because he was more confident. if one would summarize the key to Ali's success in one word, it would have been his "confidence." Respect to Ali and Smokin' Joe...
Why have you titled the video "knock out"? He didn't knock him out at all, Frazier was stopped from going out against his own wishes. Looks like sweetfights is another obsessed Ali fan.
Your response is not only a clear indication that you're an illiterate moron with no grasp of the english language, but that you've got next to no clue about boxing and that you've got no confidence in your own argument. As it stands,I have always won this dispute.
And frazier did quit.He offered no protest to his trainer's decision despite claiming to have felt strongly about it later on.And one man did get up in the end and raise his arm in victory, and it wasnt frazier.Lol
@tapiaassasin Frazier didn't quit. Do you think a man who admits he'd have risked his life to finish the fight would protest with only a round left? Please. I can tell a mile off you're another Ali fanatic. He wanted to continue it's plain to see on the film, we must be watching different videos. After this Frazier never spoke to Eddie Futch ever again because he stopped it, he was even HEARD protesting from ringside. You need to get off the Ali bandwagon. Don't know where you get your info.
Lmao at "admits".As if Frazier claiming he wanted to continue doesn't portray him in a positive light. What the fuck else do you expect him to say? And no,it's not plain to see that he wanted to continue.I can list several other examples of a fighter protesting their corners stoppage, and Frazier offered nothing of the sort. And if you really believe that Frazier never spoke to Futch again after this, you really are seriously misinformed.
@tapiaassasin Admits, protested, says, whatever you like, perhaps wrong choice of wording, the fact remains that I'm right. I expect him to say what he feels, because that's the type of man he is. Other fighters are other fighters, Frazier is Frazier. He protests the way he wants to protest. It's more than plain to see he wanted to continue, you're trying to make it sound like one of the bravest men that's ever lived gave up.Yeah right. And I should have said he didn't speak to Futch for years.
If Frazier supposedly felt as strong about the stoppage as has been claimed, and had he believed that he was either winning(which he did) or was in a position to win,he would offered some form of resistance to being stopped. He didn't and willingly accepted the decision. And even the bravest of boxers have their limits.(see Morales-Pacquiao 3).
@tapiaassasin It seems this is one of those discussions where neither one of us is going to believe the other, he wasn't the kind of man to quit willingly and, whether you like him or not, nobody can say otherwise. I firmly believe Frazier didn't quit and wanted to fight that last round. You believe the opposite. We may have to agree to disagree.
@twiskins Yeah, I agree with you, if Smokin' Joe Fraziers coach would've let him fight the last round, Ali would've end up death or Smokin' Joe Frazier winning.
@IamKurdSon sure frazier would have magically won after getting a whoopin in last rounds. he was blind by the 14th round.what kind of fan are you that you would want to see frazier go 1 more round when he couldnt even see. this is boxin not your fictional Disney movie
@tapiaassasin I agree, Frazier has been quoted repeatedly that he is glad Futch stopped the fight. Frazier had said "My eggs might have cracked" if he went out in the 15th. Despite Ali being just as tired as Frazier it does not take a rocket scientist to know that Ali would have knocked out Frazier if they came out in the 15th. What also influenced the decision is that Frazier was way behind on the scorecards and had become a punching bag from the 12th round and on.
@twiskins Haha, you are really ignorant. Frazier said that he was grateful towards his trainer. There was a scratch in his eyes, and there was a big chance his eyes would not work anymore, if they had gone an extra round, and thus receiving more stress through the punches. Ali won the second fight, clearly. He won this fight, clearly. He was ahead on scoring points and in the last three rounds,Frazier did NOTHING. It was a great choice to stop the fight.
Ok Mr Slave name, MOHAMMED ALI did not change his name to something which respected his heritage(his heritage would have been african)-he changed his name to respect his new found religion-Nation of Islam (called the Black Muslims at the time), and they gave him the name Cassuis X - which Elijah Mohammed changed to Mohammed Ali.
You can't tell me anything about Clay. - If you going to criticise make sure you know your facts - and criticise intelligently.
I already knew that, and ali acknowledged this in documentaries many times. He said that he chose to keep the name given to him by his black brotherhood because it was a name which better represented his outlook at that time and how it related to the black brotherhood, and that it was a much better representation of his views than the white slave name given to him by his ancestors slave owners. He chose it, and you disrespect his choice! That is a fact.
Ok I can look up wikipedia just as good as anyone, quit spouting off trivial facts written by someone else. As for all the bullshit about colour or slave names, give it up - that horseshit has no place in sports (it's people like you that ruin it)-I am a boxing fan I will not get into a discussion on race & religion (if you want to do that join the nation of Islam yourself).I am more than willing to discuss boxing, not argue religion.I'm sure Ali (or Clay) would agree
The problem with your reasoning is that this is muhamad ali, not any other boxer, so there is always going to be cross referencing with his legacy as a historical social figure. There is no escaping that. If you don't like it, I suggest not reading or participating in comments on Muhamad ali videos.
No, after all Ali was just a great boxer (nothing more nothing less) - thats all. Frazier, Suger Ray were great boxers too and all did loads of charity work (after their boxing careers) - Ali (Clay) became a much more notable figure after his refusal to join the US Army. As much as I repsect Muhammad Ali (AKA Cassuis Clay) he did not invent a cure for cancer or any great feat as such. Yes he is a great man - but after all he was a boxer.
If that were the case his name would not be mentioned among the great figures of history, like martin luther king, Malcolm X, JFK, etc. I am not sure why you feel this need to negate or trivialize that, but I am sure it is something deep seeded in your own mind that causes this. What he did for black Americans was comparable to what other great civil rights leaders did, never undermine that. He continued boxing, partly, to use the publicity for good.
@Triangulove - Don't put Ali up on a pedestal - that after all is not what the man is all about - you can respect & admire him all you want, he is all about peace, equal rights & respect for everyone. He is now a Sunni Muslim living a quiet peaceful life - that is his legacy.
steven4rmnewyork - clearly you just think you know boxing!
Cassius Clay was easily the best heavyweight ever, no contest. Watch the Sonny Liston or Floyd Patterson fights.
Yes he lost to Joe but it would have been very close if not for the big knockdown in the first fight, remember he won (clearly the 2nd & 3rd fights) All the taunting and yapping was for publicity reasons.
Clay fought & beat everyone in the heavyweight division - Norton 3 times (lost once), Frazier 3 times (lost once), Foreman.
cassius Clay easily the most over rated boxer in te history of the sport.. no movement no class no respect joe frazier is the true champ. he beat cassius 2 out of 3 with 2 knock downs. cassius clay was just another street fighter right of the corner with a big mouth and a ignorant persona. even when joe demolished him he didn't have the humility to apologize for bad mouthing him. that's why he'll always be the ignorant shaking monkey fool he is today whats that ali? I can't hear you stop shaking

Yeah,Frazier won despite the fact he was losing on the judges cards and despite the fact that Frazier was the one who quit himself. And your grammar is fucking disgusting.
@tapiaassasin Frazier did not quit himself, you queer tit, read books it will help you with your very backward education.watch the end,the man stood up at end won,and is was not that coward clay,ha ha ha. Dont send me to war,boo hoo,i will change my name allha, allha, i love you, help me,ha ha ha,soft shit......
@grabar20 Since you are such a brave man why you are still waistin' your time writing stupid ass comments on youtube instead of going to irak or afganisthan or wherever your fuckin army is fighting at the moment and catch a bullet for your bullshit country??? Ali=G.O.A.T.
The Thrilla In Manila! this fight was brutal both legends put their legecy and lives on the line and to our enjoyment we got one of the greatest fights in the history of Heavyweight boxing. The Golden era of Heavyweight prizefighting
Oh and BTW Dundee never really cared about Ali in my opinion. He refused to listen to him and stop the fight when Ali asked to quit here. He sent out a half blind Ali to face Liston when the substance on Sonny's gloves got in his eyes. He was happy to support Ali's ill-fated comeback fights with Holmes and Berbick and contrary to popular opinion it wasn't his decision to pull Muhammad out when Holmes was punishing him. He actually waited for a signal from Ali's manager before making the call.
Well...I don't think these two were far away from the physical limits of human endurance in the last couple of rounds. What a magnificent effort by both, just too bad there had to be a loser. This has got to be one of the greatest boxing matches ever!
@5103636936 King was some hustler though. To think he listened to the first Ali-Frazier fight on radio in jail and is here four years later promoting their third bout is nothing short of remarkable.
The fight was 9-5 Ali. Fight was even after 10 rounds at 5-5. But Ali ran away with it from 11-14 rounds. 13 and 14 rounds is where he really hit Frazier hard and forced Frazier into submission. Amazing fight.
Ali gets 7 rounds, Frazier gets 6 and 1 is even. If this were a 12 Rounder, I'd give Frazier the fight. THE BEST FIGHT IN ALL OF HISTORY!!!!!!!! THE BEST FIGHTERS IN ALL OF HISTORY AS WELL!!!!!!!
All in all, I declare the fight even, because although Ali was winning, he was about to quit and that means I see the Ali-Frazier trilogy as a draw.
You got no idea. Ali was about to quit on his corner. Ferdie Pacheco, Ali's cut doctor, even admits this. I can show you the proof.
Frazier could've killed Ali as well, cause Ali's body organs were battered like hell by Frazier's deadly punches, so either one of them or both of them could've been killed.
i doubt if the bell rang ali woulda just quit. really he was kicking joes ass near the end joe was getting hit flush. If ali was gonna quit it woulda been in the 11th round where he was standing in the corner and just taking shots. Y would he throw the fight away like that his confidence skyrocketed as soon as the mouth peice flew out.
Its possible that he would've quit. I'm not saying he would have, but its possible and I wouldn't blame him. Just look at the blazing heat of Manila. Even one of the audience members nearly passed out because of the immense heat, yet those two warriors kept going at it.
They were both kicking each other's asses man. I had the fight scored 7-6-1 for Ali until it ended.
@yaiqab ... You really are clueless about boxing huh? There is video proof.... Ali and his whole corner admits it. Whats the point though, you're an idiot and arguing over the net will solve nothing. Ignorant people will be ignorant
@yaiqab LOL don't believe those guys man. Ali wanting to quit is a myth created by Frazier's corner in a biased documentary. There is no such thing as Ali admitting to it either. I did extensive research on this, not to mention met Dundee himself when he visited our boxing club years ago. This rumor didn't come to life until 15 years after the fight in Manila, 15 years after! People who believe the myth are blind and stupid.
The greatest match in all of history. Up until the fight was stopped, I scored it 7-6-1, for Ali. If Frazier continued and won the 15th Round, the fight would be even. Ali was about to quit on his stool, while Frazier was willing to go on, even though he was blinded. Frazier's manager called it off. All in all, I declare the fight even, because although Ali was winning, he was about to quit and that means I see the Ali-Frazier trilogy as a draw.
Does anyone tell when the boxing start.? been stuck for 10mins watching the documentary.

Can you imagine Futch ignoring Frazier if Joe asked for the fight to be stopped? Me neither.

Lol, you can believe that if you want to. Aint no way in hell that Ali was not going to come out for the 15th round and possibly kill Frazier.
yaiqab 7 months ago
@yaiqab

@truebeliever786
i doubt if the bell rang ali woulda just quit. really he was kicking joes ass near the end joe was getting hit flush. If ali was gonna quit it woulda been in the 11th round where he was standing in the corner and just taking shots. Y would he throw the fight away like that his confidence skyrocketed as soon as the mouth peice flew out.

@yayamemtv

Amateur boxer, hope to make pro in the future.

Robstailey 7 months ago
@Robstailey Just wanted to ask, what does the R stand for in RTD? I know TD is Technical decision, but what's the R?
truebeliever786 7 months ago
@truebeliever786 Actually, it's not a technical decision. RTD is short for "retired," whether the fighter or the corner quits.
