Since this video was made in 2009, & it's 2012 now? Did they give up on this technology or are they still working on it, because I have never seen this until now? :) thumbs up though.
So when this becomes standard gaming. This will make kids no longer grow fat sitting around playing games but make them dangerously skinny because they will never get out of that ball to eat lol.
Make it $2000ish, console compatible and I guarantee people will buy it. Especially if there are games made to debut with it similar to the kinect. I'll be waiting ;)
Fuck all that, I just want my virtual walk in realMyst. Always hated the puzzle, thought it was the most obtuse game I've ever played... it doesn't even make sense WITH a walkthrough at times... but the setting was MAGICAL. The moment full practical VR becomes possible is the moment I'll walk around realMyst. With a walkthrough in hand, preferably.
A few issues are probably your first step and stopping, but im sure after some getting used to it this would not bother you. Another issue is the price. I saw another video where the informer said the price is almost 35,000. I think i would rather buy a nice car, but oh-well im looking forward to the day when I can literally be in a game and this is a nice step towards that.
It's very cool, but I don't think it will catch on with the general population because of the sheer size of the thing. When we find a way to connect our brains to the location, that is when it will take over.
I wonder how many guys gonna get to be freaked crazy out.. Play BF3 on this with nvidia surround on your glasses gonna mek you feel like you're on real war lol
my prediction is if these things go big there will be game lounges where there will be hundreds of these in one building and we either reserve a room or walk in and pay to play
I had the same idea as this but my brother said it was not piratical because no one would get a huge ball just to play video games... Now I'm going to show him this video and rub it in his face! Personally I would love to see this combined with this watch?v=lV3j2Yxv7jY now that would be a very epic mix.
This doesn't work for long term use. The eyes will grow tired within 1 hour and long term affects of the goggles will damage your eyes.
The screen itself must be integrated into the ball. Using flexible screen technology to make the sphere out of the scrreen material itself would make much more sense.
The other obvious problem is running within the sphere. An abrupt stop would most likely trip the user and make them fall.
Jumping within the sphere could be a problem as well.
if i told you ive invented an omni directional treadmill that you can put a sceen in that allows you to run a fast as you can and change direction at that speed. ive got a design for a virtual room that is totally surrounded by screens including floor and roof would you hire me. 1 way it would be better then yours is when you look straight down you see yourself in a sphere in my design you still see the digital world your in you dont have to wear anything on your head
@newi1213 actually, what you just said would be insanely awesome :D cool thing especially about it is they have special screens that can bend, so you could get a spherical shape with it!
PEople can't fit this in their living room....arcades don't want to give up the real estate for something with many insurance problem...same thing as trade shows...great way to get people hurt.
Not to mention...you get running you need to use momentum to stop it...which is when people fall and start tumbling.
@CorporalHotdogs essentially the greatest size it has to be is however far someone can jump (at full spead running). but you could exclude this from games in which the greatest length would be however far someone's legs are apart whilst running e.t.c. some people have treadmills in there house for excercise... therefore this could be possible.
