actually nightshift, the mounties are not only equivilent of that, as they are a National police "contracted" to communities to do policing, but they also do what the Secret Service, ATF, State Troopers, Texas Rangers, etc, do. They started JTF2, the US's equivilent of Navy Seals, primarily as a SWAT function, but it was so good the gov't traded it over to the Canadian military, just to give you an idea of the intense 6 month training they take just to be an ordinary street cop.
The RCMP did not start JTF2. JTF2 took over counter terrorism operations from the RCMP unit that previously covered those operations. The RCMP entity that existed before JTF2 was never even comparable to what JTF2 is now, nor could JTF2 ever be used to show how "great" the RCMP are. I left Toronto, ON to return back to the USA just before the 2005 Boxing Day shootout on Yonge Street, which killed Jane Creba, an innocent teenager, in the crossfire. Law abiding citizens don't need guns if criminals don't have means to get guns. Let's not get paranoid like in the states. Unless hunting for food or are a cop I think owning a gun is pointless.

I actually wouldn't mind for a world like that. I don't have my head in the sand, I just don't see how guns are going to make this world any better, or this country for that matter. Criminals will always get guns no matter what and people will always die and I do believe reenforcing gun laws is important but to promote gun ownership that's pointless.

No you're interpreting my suggestion way too loosely. I said specifically weapons, drugs, and alcohol, which are tangible items. I did not suggest that errant human behavior such as pedophilia and theft should not be legislated.
And all police officers including mounties should be properly armed for conflict with medium powered assault rifles or high powered scoped rifles -- the simple fact is criminals are likely to use these weapons against them at some point.

OK, to answer your question, yes, some people do need weapons like that. Specifically the four men who were shot that day. The fact is weapons exist, period. In spite of what anyone thinks about who can and cannot own them and how powerful anyone thinks they should be, the fact is, they exist. When has prohibiting weapons, drugs or alcohol ever stopped people from owning these items? Pretty much never.

I did not say the registry does not exist, I said the LONG GUN registry does not exist. There is no separate registry for long guns... it is a gun registry for ALL guns. Therefore you cannot "dismantle" what does not exist.

I say let everyone have guns, no registration, no control, criminals included. If your society is worthwhile, the good citizens will outnumber the bad and it won't matter that the bad have guns. It was this way years ago, and still should be. If someone has paid his dues to society for a crime, he should be allowed to have a gun to defend himself. If he hasn't, put him back in jail until he has. In fact, let the government buy everyone a gun with some of that tax money they take.

actually nightshift, the mounties are not only equivilent of that, as they are a National police "contracted" to communities to do policing, but they also do what the Secret Service, ATF, State Troopers, Texas Rangers, etc, do. They started JTF2, the US's equivilent of Navy Seals, primarily as a SWAT function, but it was so good the gov't traded it over to the Canadian military, just to give you an idea of the intense 6 month training they take just to be an ordinary street cop.

The RCMP did not start JTF2. JTF2 took over counter terrorism operations from the RCMP unit that previously covered those operations. The RCMP entity that existed before JTF2 was never even comparable to what JTF2 is now, nor could JTF2 ever be used to show how "great" the RCMP are. They are no more elite than your standard police officer any where else.

ah, thanks for the lesson lol. i must have misunderstood the article i read. however, the RCMP are still better trained than other police forces in canada, no disrespect to city police, but when i talked to one city officer here, she replied that her training was "easier, and not as physically nor mentally challanging as depot" told to her by a friend that graduated from depot a few years before she became a cop. she did also mention however that she does recieve more experience.....

Trying to use some kind of registry system is folly. You can not traffic and track every gun in the world/country. They will always be a black market, there will all ways be black product(guns).

I seriously thought the topic would be her defending the man because it was a 4 on 1 fight and he was able to defend himself against the government (which seems to be the 'bad guy' more often in pro gun vids like these).
Also, she didn't say what he was guilty of and so my first reaction as someone unfamiliar with the criminal was "Katey must want to tell us that the govt wont have to come after you if you own a legal gun, which this guy unfortunately couldn't get."

There were u.n. troops waiting but they never got the firing order and the thousands just walked through them and when they got to the u.n. building they just waited until I ignited the C-4 in a self sacrifice and the Thousands pulled off their masks and held up signs that said "Silent No More" as the u.n. burst and they all cheered and Chanted "FREEDOM LIVES", and Katey was one of the thousands in that crowd.

I left Toronto, ON to return back to the USA just before the 2005 Boxing Day shootout on Yonge Street, which killed Jane Creba, an innocent teenager, in the crossfire. Canada's Gun Registry did nothing to prevent this girl's death, nor did it do anything to help the Toronto Police Service arrest the shooters.

Ok, so the law against criminals having guns didn't work. And I guess the gun registration law didn't really help. We should make it illegal for people to murder others. Oh, that's already a law? I guess that didn't work either. Know what ALL these criminals use? Air! We should ban the act of breathing air. That would stop them from breathing and they would pass out and not kill anyone!
