Ha ha ha, hey Rob. I spent a day in Guildford yesterday so slightly surreal watching you and your beard (and the knife) running around there. Brilliant little episode, absolutely loved it.
Im still watching your blogs, if you dont remember me i posted on your blog way back, i was in year 11 then. Now im doing a TAFE course for Film and Television, alot of were i am is because i watched your blogs and i got very interested. Enjoy your movie making!
Oh yea. It is illegal to take someone elses rubbish to the tip. A 70 yearold man was doing a good deed for some neighbours who were unable to do so, and he got told off. We even have number plate recognition and survelance cameras at rubbish tips. Great huh!
I didn't contact the police a few months ago when I was shooting in downtown Vancouver. Apparently we were right outside a crack house, and we had a prop gun.
The police didn't like that, pointed a gun at us and threatened to use force. We were yelled at a bit, but then they were nice guys about it and stayed on site until we wrapped up.
oh god a laughed so much at the police searching you, just the idea of stopping a bearded woman with a knife amuses me so much. keep up the awesome work!
I had exactly the same problem when filming a fight scene in Camberley (not far from Guildford incidentally!). We were picked up on CCTV using a 'knife', which the local security guards failed to investigate first before scrambling 3 police cars to our location. On discovering that we were carrying nothing more than a stage knife with a blunt retractable blade, the police got very pissed off that security hadn't checked. So glad we didn't use a real knife!
As an college filmmaker in the U.S. it is quite different. Pretty much you can't film anywhere in public so you've got to do what we call guerilla shooting. Basically you go and film as fast as possible and leave before someone calls the police. But yeah cops have always carried guns here in the U.S. What did you guys do in Britain if someone had a gun? Did the cops hit them with a baton? Jk, 4/5 stars
Oh they do carry guns in London, hence that poor lad that was going on the train and was shot like 7 times in the head by police who though he was a terrorist but he was just a normal person...
Here in wales on the other hand they dont carry guns just mace, so if a gun is invovled they normally just run back to station and have a cuppa and some pizza !
they do not carry weapons that was just after the 7/7 bombings and they got armed police to patrol train stations that does not usually happen and they had been told to shoot on site when they saw something suspicious
Wow, an interesting part of the filming process that, most unexpected. You didn't brandish a knife...you ALL BRANdished a knife. *the cardboard was from an all bran pack, right?*
Rob, that beard looks nice and curly at the end there, do you miss it?
"Normal in America" well it's never happened to me and I live in a fairly densely populated are where there have been some pretty major crimes recently. But whether it's normal or not it's generally not something you'd WANT to happen.
ha ha! Sorry, I was merely referring to the fact that cops carry Guns in the US whereas that is only a recent thing that only some Police carry in England is all! No I can imagine you dont normally end up at the wrong end of a gun!
Yeah... i got stopped on a shoot early one morning because a passer-by saw my large-ish camera and assumed it was a weapon... yeah... easy mistake to make... i... i guess...
Wasn't Charles Manson in jail?

Dont know why you guys in the US keep saying you can't film in public.
You can, you just have to get the proper documents and liscense to do so and get a release for anyone if they are in the shot.
