The roommate just wants to be his friend, even gives him a fish at one point, but finally the main guy completely trips out. The guy thinks he saw the shark (his roommate) outside but in reality because he is going bat s*** crazy he hallucinates it and goes into the bathroom where his roommate is showering...then proceeds to brutally murder the roommate.

i think the song is about religion and how someone could believe in it if they seen so many bad things happen to good people, "no food or water for the better part of ten months" gives you the hint. and they say "oh some evil this way it comes. they told me how they fear it, now theyre placing it on their tongues" as in religious people say god is great, but he also judges you. maybe the shark is representing how religious people always have god on their mind in a sort of comical way.
