I accidentally bought this song on iTunes when I meant to click on another by the same artist. Now it's one of my favorites :) Thanks so much for sharing your version with us.
Hello gtrman it has been a few, I have been on the road a long time trucken down the interstate of life. my laptop died, I just have not have had time to replace it, so I got one of thoes fancy phones I can watch YT I missed every one over the belivers holey day a-men. as allways great work, my love to you're family-Brian.
That's interesting. Could you give me some documentation? I have just done a search on the web, and have found numerous sites that give William Joseph "Billy" Hill (July 14, 1899--December 24, 1940) credit for writing this song. Hill found fame writing cowboy songs, and his hits included "They Cut Down the Old Pine Tree", "The Last Roundup", "Wagon Wheels", and "Empty Saddles". Probably his biggest "hit" was "The Glory of Love."
I didn't even know Bette Midler sang this song until I recorded it and uploaded it to YT! I heard Mary Ann's (ysabellabrave) version about a year or so ago, and it reminded me of my last phone conversation with my dad. So I decided to learn it and do my own rendition.
Sorry you've had a hard year. I've had a few of those myself. Blessings on you for the coming year!
Maybe that's what it is! I've been wondering why it's been so hard for me to think about parting with this guitar... Yes, I believe it is Brazilian rosewood, though laminated. The top, however, is solid cedar which was rare for these guitars, as they were usuall made of all laminates. This is an '82 vingage instrument. I have owned five others, two '70s vintage, one '90s vintage and one brand new one made in 2004 or 5. All of them were great guitars, but I just can't seem to let this one go.
The last song I sang for my grandma is "Jesus Loves Me." She hadn't spoken in over 2 weeks but she had tears running down her cheeks, so it's special to me. No one can tell me people in a "vegetative state" are not aware of their surroundings.
Surely you're not that old! And I've only been on YT for a couple of years. Then, again, two years in internet time does represent a considerable amount of time. If I'm not mistaken, I contacted you through VioletKitty and her Amazing Grace video (I was fishing for comments on my Amazing Grace in the House of the Rising Sun vid). That was only a couple of months after I uploaded my first video. I guess you are an "old" friend after all!
I do remember you from wayyy back! But, I have to admit that you have a better memory because I don't remember how we became friends! I think I was Dickens123 then! Right?
I always liked this song..and I must say that your story in the sidebar is very touching..There is some great wisdom in this song that I wish I had listened to..Great Job Jack
Thanks for sharing this. I loved/love my dad so much & he sang songs to us. Sometimes he just sang out loud just to sing & at times he sang songs to be funny to make us laugh like "Hello Dolly" making funny gestures & immatating Louie Armstrong's unique voice. The memories of my dad when he sang are so happy.I truly believe sometimes he comes to me(& my siblings) through songs. You sing beautifully. Your father helped you & your wife with a Great Gift. He left a helpful message for all of us *)*
I really like the message in this song. Great singing & guitar playing as always.

it's not a freak song.. It's a very beautiful song. >: Just because a song is associated with a horror movie doesn't make it bad.

Confession Time:
I used to go into music stores JUST to smell the Giannini guitars.
Was it Brazilian rosewood? Does that one still smell good? lol
Great rendering, anyway.
