I like tele basses. I recently bought a Fender CIJ tele bass reissue, I'm not sure when it was made, but I know that it isn't an original tele bass because the headstock says "precision bass", and that it has no arm or body contours, so it isnt one of these or a mike dirnt, or a 6oth anniversary. I like how these have slightly more wood to them, are string through, and how loud and punchy the single coil is. My tele bass is my pride and joy, and I treat it like Nigel treats his fender bass 6.
@Santi66 couldn't find one locally, but I found one at the Guitar Center in Oregon...649.00 (+tax and shipping) with a hard case included! Sweet deal... shipping to me tomorrow! YES!

I play in a thrash metal band and I'm thinking of buying this bass I like the sound what I need to know does it have a fast neck and is it a light bass?
Yes, Sting used an Ibanez Musician, and Fender Precision. Perhaps other basses. But Sting own this bass (vintage Fender) for a lot of years and he loves it; He plays this bass at concerts.
your video was the one that made me realize i needed to have this bass.... lol.... do you find that one pick-up to be noisy at higher gains? cuz it sounds super clean through the camera.
i was looking at this bass thinking "wow, this thing sounds great"
but i was wondering, is it much less versatile than a normal p-bass? with a normal p-bass i can get just about any sound i want with just the tone nob.
I have seen your videos with so many different bass guitars. What is the real difference between the Sting Bass and the 51' Re-Issue Bass? Do they both sound the same? Thanks.
The differencies are in the body, because the 51 model got a slab body and the Sting is the 54 model; Back then, Leo made some improvements, like the contour body, sunburst finish and white pickguard.
Yes, I agree. When Leo designed this bass he used the Telecaster Pickup with four poliepieces... And the Telecaster Pickup was the best guitar pickup designed by Leo. So the crunchy tone and sustain is guaranteed.

@bassharmonica1
The Telecaster Bass was actually the first reissue (in last sixties, early seventies) of the original Precison Bass (1951).
So, these japanese model are the reissue from early (1951) Precision Bass ("Precison Bass" logo and no contour body, aka "slab body").
The "Sting" is the reissue from 1954 (contour body, sunburst) Precision Bass. The "Telecaster" Bass name comes from the early first reissue (1968).
Congrats for your bass.
Cheers
Santi66 5 months ago
@Santi66 What does it mean "Contour Body" and "Offset Contour Body" please ?
ReggattaDeBlanc 4 months ago
@ReggattaDeBlanc
Contour body means that the body bass is contoured for the arm and body player (not "slab body", like a plank).
Offset is the Jazz Bass style body; it isn't symmetrical. The upper side is not symmetrical with the the other side.

since it has some sort of single coil, I wonder if it's a noisy bass, or is it just like a regular P?
hasegawamiki 1 year ago
@hasegawamiki
It´s different to the regular P-Bass split coil (that get an humbucker effect).
This pickup is sigle coil, so more noisy that the split coil.
This pickup was the first bass pickup designed by Leo Fender, inspired in the Telecaster bridge pickup.
