@kauztuv The scorecard at the end there says Lawson "Retired Hurt". I'd have thought it would be out "hit wicket" in which case the bowler would get the credit.
Amazing to think Ambrose was not as fast as Aktar, Lee or Bond, but like all the Windies bowlers at that time, they were so tall that the height the ball came from made every delivery deadly.
Excellent, thank you robelinda2. Finally found out why ABC had their own footage of tests well in the 80's (after the WSC/ACB "truce" in 79) for Late Night Legends a few years back.
Along with Kim Hughes' public blubbering, Lawson being carted off on a stretcher becuase he took a lively one on the chops has put back the cause of Aussie manhood 100 years.
Bring back Victor Trumper, The Don, Rolf Harris and Chopper Fucking Reid!!!
And let's not forget ol' Dean Jones and his Indian double century. Stuff of legend.
When you're downright stupid enough for a TAIL-ENDER to NOT wear a grill facing AMBROSE at PERTH (out of all places), you deserve to get your jaw broken. Idiocy.
I think Steve Waugh said in his autobiography that Geoff Lawson was an accident waiting to happen against fast bowlers. Why wasn't he wearing a face guard?
@crazycurry90 ABC showed all the Aussie tests in the 70's up to about 1990, but when ch 9 took over in 1979 ABC just showed the tests in country areas of Australia, as ch 9's broadcast didnt reach all of Australia back then. As I lived in the country in the 80's thats what I taped, but I had mates who taped the ch 9 stuff in the city too.
@Crkt4Eva No, ch 9's broadcast of the normal grounds tests didnt reach country areas, so ABC stepped in to provide coverage. In various places I lived I never even got ch 9. SO i had to make do with ABC coverage. Matches were never played at Darwin, Cairns or any country areas in the 80's or 90's anyway.
@robelinda2 - So, in '90 when ABC finally stopped broadcasting matches it was because Channel NINE had actually got there act together & implemented a system where-by they broadcast to Oz all over, not just urban but also rural/country areas, as you put it?
@robelinda2 ahhh right so thats when "WIN" and "Prime" or whatever came into existence haha ive only been around since 1990 so ive assumed that they've been around forever haha
@robelinda I thought so. I seem to remember some below average camera work. SBS has done OK (not that they have to do camera work). The ménage of MacGill, Advanced Hair and Marto is compulsive viewing. Where on earth did they pluck Marto from?
@copyalater Ch 7 didnt do their own camera work either, they used SABS footage in 97, they sent over Greg Chappell, Carl Rackemann and bloody Dennis Commetti to commentate though, hopeless! Carig McDermott was in the ch 7 studio doing shit commentary too, it was awful. Plus ch 7 only showed the matches after about 11pm, foxtel showed it all live.
@robelinda No wonder it's sketchy. Foxtel was but a dream for me '97. Dennis Commetti though? There could be some left-field commentary gems just waiting to be unearthed...
@robelinda2 you guys better bloody hope you don't end up like us here in NZ. before all home matches were free to air. now you have to pay for sky television (similar to foxtel) to view any sport.
@thatguyyouknow2 Ch 9 do such a shit job i;d be happy if it was all on pay tv. Had pay tv since 1995, I'm used to it, long highlights, classic matches shown all the time, ch 9 don't even show the whole days play.
@SPMJ I have heaps of matches, but no spells edited yet. I upload them as I do them, I dont have anything like that hanging around gathering dust and not uploaded!
Lawson went down like a little bitch
Tehui1974 1 day ago
Bad for Lawson, but was this credited as a wicket for Ambrose? The bail is seen off after Lawson goes down..

What i love the most is how all the west indians were so concerned, Cricket of those days was a real gentlemen's sport.
keenstarkeenan 3 months ago 2
I think Ch9 at that time, was concentrating on the main cities which is natural.
Obviously, ABC being Gov. funded had their transmitters/stn's stepped in.
