  • Lawson went down like a little bitch

  • Bad for Lawson, but was this credited as a wicket for Ambrose? The bail is seen off after Lawson goes down..

  • @kauztuv The scorecard at the end there says Lawson "Retired Hurt". I'd have thought it would be out "hit wicket" in which case the bowler would get the credit.

  • Such sportsmanship, got to love the Windies.

  • Lawson shoulda used his bat. Pillock.

  • i think that such deliveries are just against the spirit of the game!!!!1

  • @szuberi NO

  • @szuberi acha g then you have no need to play cricket..sit at home

  • Amazing to think Ambrose was not as fast as Aktar, Lee or Bond, but like all the Windies bowlers at that time, they were so tall that the height the ball came from made every delivery deadly.

  • nasty

  • No face guard when Curtly is bowling, you need a bullet proof suit when Curtly bowls.

  • @TheWheelofLife100 true, but in those days they didn't have them.

  • @TheWheelofLife100 You need a bomb proof bunker when Ambrose lets loose!

  • holy shit.

  • Waugh out again in the 90s. God how many times was he dismissed in the 90s?

  • @mkeysou812 too many, a lot of not out in the 90s as well

  • Excellent, thank you robelinda2. Finally found out why ABC had their own footage of tests well in the 80's (after the WSC/ACB "truce" in 79) for Late Night Legends a few years back.

  • and aus declared, why didnt Merv Hughes bat? dont tell me Merv was scared!!

  • Comment removed

  • What i love the most is how all the west indians were so concerned, Cricket of those days was a real gentlemen's sport.

  • I think Ch9 at that time, was concentrating on the main cities which is natural.

Obviously, ABC being Gov. funded had their transmitters/stn's stepped in.

  • miss those days. golden era of test cricket. thanks for posting .

  • Now I know the success mantra of Ambrose

  • By crickey a quiet aussie

  • curtly Ambrose what a bowler that cricket had...

  • not much sympathy in evidence

  • a stretcher??? i didnt realise a broken jaw could stop you from walking :S

  • Along with Kim Hughes' public blubbering, Lawson being carted off on a stretcher becuase he took a lively one on the chops has put back the cause of Aussie manhood 100 years.

Bring back Victor Trumper, The Don, Rolf Harris and Chopper Fucking Reid!!!

And let's not forget ol' Dean Jones and his Indian double century. Stuff of legend.

  • Wish it'd shut his mouth up for good.

  • lol so tall he can't fit on the stretch. look at his feet hanging out like dead weight

  • Lol, Lawson's feet dangling over the end of that stretcher is just funny!

  • thats the first time i have ever seen a stretcher used in cricket

  • When you're downright stupid enough for a TAIL-ENDER to NOT wear a grill facing AMBROSE at PERTH (out of all places), you deserve to get your jaw broken. Idiocy.

  • @MrPutter84

to be fair, it was Ambrose's first series in Australia.

  • ouch .. that must have really hurt. West Indies fast bowler were indeed the most dangerous bowlers at one time.

  • Sure shut that whitey up! Whitey bugger em too much sledging!

  • There were a few hints...the way he said "His spirit almost broken". But what an innings! His timing was insane.

  • the commentator ( benaud i think) is so calm while saying hez been floored lol

  • @mubee786

Benaud is one of the best cricket commentators I have heard.

  • @mubee786 it's not benaud

  • @theuglyhairmonster2 I did read somewhere that it was broken in 5 places.....

  • a stretcher for a broke jaw?.....really......

  • I think Steve Waugh said in his autobiography that Geoff Lawson was an accident waiting to happen against fast bowlers. Why wasn't he wearing a face guard?

  • @jstreete Yes Tugga talked about this in his book. Henry have worn a grill man, no excuses.

  • Ambrose seems more wire-ry early on in his career

  • random question...how come ABC was covering the match and not channel 9? was wondering why the camerawork was so shabby

  • @crazycurry90 ABC showed all the Aussie tests in the 70's up to about 1990, but when ch 9 took over in 1979 ABC just showed the tests in country areas of Australia, as ch 9's broadcast didnt reach all of Australia back then. As I lived in the country in the 80's thats what I taped, but I had mates who taped the ch 9 stuff in the city too.

  • @robelinda2 - When you mention Country areas of Oz, do you mean when matches were actually played at rural places such as - Cairns, Darwin & Hobart?

  • @Crkt4Eva No, ch 9's broadcast of the normal grounds tests didnt reach country areas, so ABC stepped in to provide coverage. In various places I lived I never even got ch 9. SO i had to make do with ABC coverage. Matches were never played at Darwin, Cairns or any country areas in the 80's or 90's anyway.

  • @robelinda2 - So, in '90 when ABC finally stopped broadcasting matches it was because Channel NINE had actually got there act together & implemented a system where-by they broadcast to Oz all over, not just urban but also rural/country areas, as you put it?

  • @Crkt4Eva Yep exactly. BLOODY CH 9!!! Took them years and years to get their shit together.

  • @robelinda2 ahhh right so thats when "WIN" and "Prime" or whatever came into existence haha ive only been around since 1990 so ive assumed that they've been around forever haha

  • @robelinda2 Do you guys remember a few matches covered (badly) by Channel 7?

  • @copyalater Yeah ch 7 covered the 1997 tour of SA, and the one dayers on the 2001 tour of England.

  • @robelinda I thought so. I seem to remember some below average camera work. SBS has done OK (not that they have to do camera work). The ménage of MacGill, Advanced Hair and Marto is compulsive viewing. Where on earth did they pluck Marto from?

  • @copyalater Ch 7 didnt do their own camera work either, they used SABS footage in 97, they sent over Greg Chappell, Carl Rackemann and bloody Dennis Commetti to commentate though, hopeless! Carig McDermott was in the ch 7 studio doing shit commentary too, it was awful. Plus ch 7 only showed the matches after about 11pm, foxtel showed it all live.

  • @robelinda No wonder it's sketchy. Foxtel was but a dream for me '97. Dennis Commetti though? There could be some left-field commentary gems just waiting to be unearthed...

  • @copyalater I uploaded Mark Waugh's ton from the 2nd test, you can hear Mr Commetti!

  • @robelinda ch 7 and optus covered the whole 2001 tour. it was 2005 that ch 7 just showed the odis

  • @314159192829 yes i know, ive uploaded plenty from that series using ch 7 and optus footage.

  • @robelinda2 you guys better bloody hope you don't end up like us here in NZ. before all home matches were free to air. now you have to pay for sky television (similar to foxtel) to view any sport.

  • @thatguyyouknow2 Ch 9 do such a shit job i;d be happy if it was all on pay tv. Had pay tv since 1995, I'm used to it, long highlights, classic matches shown all the time, ch 9 don't even show the whole days play.

  • @Crkt4Eva World Series Cricket was shown only in the cities in the late 70's, no-one in the country saw it.

  • man o man he was devastating.rob can u upload his 7-1 spell against aussies plzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • @pavansnehith Last time I checked that test was on youtube already.

  • @pavansnehith Infact that spell of 7-1 is already on youtube

  • Hit in the jaw and he gets stretchered off.

  • Robe, I was wondering if you have some great Ambrose spells in your collection. Would love to see one.

  • @SPMJ I have heaps of matches, but no spells edited yet. I upload them as I do them, I dont have anything like that hanging around gathering dust and not uploaded!

  • Taking your eyes off the ball is NOT recommended, especially if you're not wearing a grill.

  • @madaboutsleep Yeah I never understoof why some players would use a helemet without a grill on it
