Most historians do not buy Menzies' writing because of the way he loosely ties evidence together. Instead of finding concrete evidence to back up his writing (i.e. diaries of the ship's crew, navigational charts, first-hand records), he uses processes of elimination. He'll find one piece of evidence, rush to a conclusion, and run with it. That's not the way to build credibility for any theory.

People might want to know this: Charlotte Harris Rees, the daughter of author Dr. Hendon Harris, bought an old American highschool history textbook dated 1910 from an antique/bookstore which taught that the Chinese discovered America before Columbus. Apparently textbooks prior to this date consistently taught this,but books dated after 1910 found in the same bookstore taught that Columbus discovered America fist. So who knows what else has been distorted.
Even when China travelled to other places, such as Zhenghe's expeditions to Africa and the Middle East, they did not have intentions to "discover" or exploit any of the natives. Unlike European motives during later colonization, the Chinese simply wanted to see new lands out of curiosity, and they did not enslave or mistreat the locals. Even if Chinese "discovered" America, it was probably more like took a look around. That is why America is a Western Country, not an Asian one.

Whether its one or many, it's still a discovery. Semantic games are fun. Going in that direction, Columbus landed in the Caribbean. Hardly the entirety of North America. Most historians do not buy Menzies' writing because of the way he loosely ties evidence together. Instead of finding concrete evidence to back up his writing (i.e. diaries of the ship's crew, navigational charts, first-hand records), he uses processes of elimination. He'll find one piece of evidence, rush to a conclusion, and run with it. That's not the way to build credibility for any theory.

People might want to know this: Charlotte Harris Rees, the daughter of author Dr. Hendon Harris, bought an old American highschool history textbook dated 1910 from an antique/bookstore which taught that the Chinese discovered America before Columbus. Even when China travelled to other places, such as Zhenghe's expeditions to Africa and the Middle East, they did not have intentions to "discover" or exploit any of the natives. Unlike European motives during later colonization, the Chinese simply wanted to see new lands out of curiosity, and they did not enslave or mistreat the locals. Even if Chinese "discovered" America, it was probably more like took a look around. That is why America is a Western Country, not an Asian one.

Menzies attempts the argument that this was all some giant exploratory mission, disregarding the fact that the Chinese had been sailing as far as Egypt by the Tang Dynasty (7th century). This was not exploration, but rather Chinese following routes they knew for centuries.

@dragondescent Many Native Americans have genetic ancestry that indicates a relationship with Siberians or Mongolians- not Han Chinese. On the paternal side, haplogroup Q is common and is also found in Siberia; haplogroup C3 is found among some Native American populations and is also found in Mongolia- Ghengis Khan is thought to be of C3 ancestry. A lot of central and southern American natives have paternal haplogroup Q3- which is unique to the Americas, it is not found in Asia.

This is a silly theory and book. I've seen no contemporary or archeological evidence that the Chinese fleet landed in America.

and during conquest everything was burned or melted, so all we really have are ruins and like, little trinkets in tombs. though the fact that they had paved roads thousands of miles long would indeed be indicative of mapping. that nobody knows how to read "quipus" anymore. l0ord knows that those things say...

if discovery is about knowledge then natives 'discovered' europe when they traveled there. already given you the example of incas who btw were aware of the entire south america & mexicans who were well aware of central america & its islands. not taking into account millions of books burned during conquest.
regardless, discovery means to be aware u probably claim australia /africa/ polynesia 'discovered' by europe

Whether its one or many, it's still a discovery. Semantic games are fun. Going in that direction, Columbus landed in the Caribbean. Hardly the entirety of North America. It took European explorers (explorers not one explorer) decades to map out the Americas. It was neither a single discovery or one person's endeavor.
