@hairbandfan1967 One thing is wrong with your analogy.. A heterosexual house hold? If the child in question is showing a homosexual/transgender role then isn't it safe to say thet your statement of a heterosexual household is flawed in the fact that that tendendcy exists? Therefore isn't it safe to say that it is a heterosexual/homosexual or transgender houshold? The intolerence stated by her is the lack of listening to the child in questions issues before making an irational descision.

@ladylejean215 Most know by that age, pretty much their whole lives they know. They don't always know what to call it though but the feeling is there from birth. I never knew that until I met transgender people and learned more. But it makes sense if you think about it, non transgender people know their gender that young too.
@ladylejean215 a childs gender is actually implemented at birth, children become aware by 2. the concept of gender is actually a biological thing which developes in the mind. thats why you can't make a boy born with a deformed almost non existent penis to think he was a girl(more specific act like a girl). that boy would grow up living like a tom boy until he realises the truth. thats one of the reasons why transgenders could be discribed as people born in the wrong bodies.
I believe in imaginary play but not at the expense of my child's psyche. Playing w/ dolls is one thing but this crosses lines of imaginary play. Adults don't play with dolls but Adult women wear dresses. In my culture males do NOT wear dresses. It's not funny, cute or creative. My son will not have missed out on anything or have a void b/c he didn't get to prance around in a Cinderella dress as a boy. The fact that ppl think it's acceptable for children to cross dress is ri-dame-diculous.
@ladyEulaelie it's people like you that causes such pychological problems. you know, you actually better people with disabilities lives more when you actually put time in LEARNING about their dissorder, otherwise if you impose your own personal beliefs on him because he happends to act a little different, then thats going to cause a PROBLEM for the child. people who share your views really need to get educated on mental issues because when you don't you make life harder for your child.
Small children naturally do things they shouldn't. It's the parents job to step in and show them the way or the norm. In general, a lot of things we do are learned behaviors; some things aren't. I'm not here to argue that what's biological and what's not. If I never correct my child when they steal/hit other kids, or do something that is generally view as abnormal, than what's the chances they will have a mental problem?
I'm also not on here to be uncivil. It is on the conscience of every parent how they parent THEIR child....not yours. You will not be the one sitting up late at night because Crazy Jo up the street won't let her daughter climb trees or let her son prance around in princess dresses. I'm not concerned if you agree or disagree w/ me. I respect that everyone can have their relevant view of the world as kind loving parents in away that is not subjectively harmful.
@dblubarry im not sure why you bought up lesbians and gays. do you think that all women who wear pants are lesbians so then all guys who wear dresses are gay? all i was saying is that pants were mens clothing but now we accept that men and women can wear them, so why not accept a guy wearing a dress? has nothing to do with homosexuality.
@maccaaccam99 im just saying... lesbians have more tendencies to dress like a boy and vice versa. its easier for girls because no one says much. but for boys, if they wear a dress it' a crime.
"I'm his mother, and if I want my son to be psychologically scarred and possibly suicidal that's my choice because I'm a pig ignorant irrational sociopath." - Sherri Shephard (translation)
@icemachine79 I kind of agree with Sherrie she has every right to choose what her son wears she had that baby not you. and how do you know he's gay or even want to wear a dress for that matter? I guess everybody has to be homophobic or ignorant if they have rules for their kids now a days. That's very interesting to me that she's consider ignorant because she doesn't want her son to wear a dress
Growing up as a child...I was a tomboy..didn't like dolls would rather be out playing with the boys bla bla bla my parents didn't object and never made it a big deal..i can't be anymore feminine now in my twenties...If the argument is it turns you gay..it's stupid!
@rima110 no one said that it would turn you gay...gays say it's not a choice to be gay and I respect that very much but in the same way I can respect that why can't you and others respect that everyone doesn't want their sons dressing in dresses? I mean where is the boundaries in how a person should raise their kids? if a child show disturbing behaviors that you don't agree with wouldn't you try to correct it? no maybe not
1 out of 2 transgender people attempt suicide by the time they're 20. It's people like this moron who put the thought in kids' heads that it's not okay to be themselves. Ignorantignorantignorant.
@yourdevilsreject if you want to put your son in dresses that is your business but you shouldn't be telling other women who had to go through hell giving birth how to raise their child. If she doesn't want her son to wear dresses that is her business because that is her child
@NAEIRNBRUFORU What is funny is that women wearing pants was looked down upon as an "abomination" at the turn of the last century. Why? Because of the bible. Now? Perfectly normal. Black women were so looked down on, that even when they were free, they were considered less than animals. I find it so aggrivating when black people hold up the bible against others, claiming it's "truth".
My 5 yr old daughter plays with toy tools, trucks, loves spiderman and ironman, and yet still loves dolls, care bears, and dress up. She is healthy, insanely smart, and happy. Why should I keep my daughter from expanding what she likes? If a boy wears a dress, that doesn't mean he will grow up gay or crossdress. Maybe he'll be the next Calvin Klein, for all you know. Just let kids be kids!
@AvalonDraconis I agree with this and yet my friend who is my nieghbor, his mom wanted a girl after him and she coaxed his younger brother into playing with dolls and other girls and he turned out gay because of the mom's conditioning. as long as that is not happening, I agree, let children (not baby goats) be children.
@NWKklown Playing with dolls does not make a child gay. Neither does cuddling or giving affection. People used to believe that boys who were hugged too much or allowed to speak of their feelings would grow up to be gay, that is totally debunked now. What happened is either your friend is not remembering/telling the story 100% correctly, or he was born gay and it had nothing to do with his mother. My eldest girl loves spider man and iron man, does that mean she will grow up gay? Not likely.
@AvalonDraconis You're not getting it. I never proposed such a thought. I told you he was my neighbor, so I would know. and his mom admitted to her wanting to have a daughter and coaxed him to like girly things and such (it was not merely the dolls/not my point). In the situation described, nurture won out nature. it's cool that your daughter likes spiderman, that has nothing to do with her sexuality or femininity. perhaps read my comment again? I agree with the aforementioned debunked concept.
@XSDarkMoonZX they aren't you just feel the need to bash Christians but leave out Muslims,Jews because that would make you "islam-phobic" or "anti-Semitic" .. also how is it ignorant to not want her son to dress like a woman. if she didn't care about him then fine..but she does. It's intolerant to think people should conform to your view of gender also..
People do have to wait until 18 years of age to have the surgery, but the diagnosis of the disorder happens as young as 2 years old. It's not some disorder where a kid just wants to dress like the opposite sex, the children have to show clearly that they truly believe they are meant to be another sex. It takes years to get the actual diagnosis, and then more years to be eligible for surgery. No worries.
I'm going to be honest, I'm a straight guy, but let's be frank. Is there any outfit that is more bad-ass or manlike then a kilt? Have you looked at Scots?
If there was a bad-ass contest between a John McClane and a guy who wears a kilt, I'd bet on the guy in the kilt.
Sherri is a jehovah witness from what I heard eww , she looks like a fat man in bad drag herself so maybe she shouldnt wear a wig or dress ,shes late ,fat & ghetto
@kat21sd - I don't like judging people but, seriously, being against Halloween in any way, shape, or form makes you a FREAK. That's all there is to it. There HAS to be some great celebration of cultural diversity out there and Halloween is the time of year when you can actually be something and someone else for a change. She really is messed up, but at least she's honest about it. Better the Devil you know, as they say.
@kat21sd of course she's ghetto because she's black right? see this is the thing about being white even if you're a gay person you still have privileges in this country...I've heard worst shit from Ann Coulter but yet nobody is calling her ghetto. How can black people be for gay people when most gay people are against black people for just being black! so many racist comments on this page just shows that even if you're gay you're still a bigot
SHERRI IS SO DUMB!!!I HATE STUPID HOS LIKE HER THAT MISREPRESENT BLACK PEOPLE.SHE THINKS SHE SO PERFECT.I CANT WAIT TIL SHE CATCH SAL TALL SWEET ASS IS DRAG.DUMB BITCH!
@9hello123 so you think that kids having sex in their parents house is great parenting? damn where is your boundaries? I know if you were my mother I'll be pregnant at 12
@spareld "I know if you were my mother I'll be pregnant at 12 " Then you're scum.
So what you're saying is, it's better parenting to tell your kids to get fucked in a dark alleyway, than in a house.
And yes there's absolutely nothing wrong with having sex in your parents house. You're a moron if you think otherwise, as long as you're not doing it in their bed or something similar.
@rigatony019 "gender rols area good thing and existed before culture could place them on us," only the gender role of men getting food and women raising children purely because men are naturally stronger and men would have lots of children with lots of women. It would be impossible for the man to raise all the children as there would be too many, and women could not get food as they would be naturally weaker, pregnant, and not have time with feeding all the children.
I am a bi female..and I'm in a serious relationship with my girlfriend..I have a 3 year old son and I DO NOT....want him wearing a dress!! jus sayin..
@BrittneyChristina just because you're "bi" and in a "serious relationship" with your girlfriend doesn't make your statement any less ignorant. "jus sayin...."
@BrittneyChristina that's fine to disagree, i just want people who read your comment to know that you don't speak for all gay people, nor should it matter what orientation you are to begin with. to just dismiss something such as a possible transgender situation with your child without even opening up a dialogue with them could seriously have long term emotional and mental effects on them. i suggest you watch a segment here on youtube called "my secret self" about transgendered children.
@toribjork10 Oh of course..no ONE person can speak for a whole group in any situation.. and the only reason I put my orientation was so I wasn't mistaken for some "homophobic hetero"..and for ppl not to assume that all gays are for little boys wanting to wear dresses at such a young age...but I'll be sure to check out that video. I'm opinionated..but I'm also open minded.
@BrittneyChristina I know your just saying but that would kinda like being a hypocrite on the count of your able to be who you wanna be why can't he. I pretty sure there is alot of people would disagree with your life style. just sayin.
wow sherri really why would you care if your son put on a dress if he were playing with his friends if he were like 12 and did it then question him but a 4 year old doesnt see the difference what you yousay if he wore your heels?
This woman actually has nothing going for her. She's mind numbingly stupid, offensively ignorant, not aesthetically pleasing nor funny. I don't understand why they chose her of all people to be a co-host.
"He can be transsexual when he gets outta the house!" What the flying fuck woman. Transgender issues are one of the hardest things someone can go through. That level of misunderstanding is NOT going to help the lack of acceptance your child would find if they went through that. What an idiotic and ignorant woman.
I love how "open minded" people bash people who dont agree with them. Gender roles are important. Not that one gender is better than the other, but they are different. This whole mentality of merging characteristics and roles together takes away from what makes each gender special. NEW FLASH PEOPLE: Men and Women ARE NOT THE SAME! Why is that so taboo and hard to accept???
@malonso212004 You're saying we should enforce gender roles because they exist naturally, right? That's not true for everyone. There are guyish women, and girly men. When we enforce gender roles, we ostracise those who CAN'T fit in their gender role. Take me, for example. I am loud, sarcastic, future robotics engineer who feels out of her skin in a dress. I spent most of my childhood trying to act "like a real girl". Didn't work. I'll never fit in a "woman's role". What would you have me do?
@tangent94 I dont think being loud, sarcastic, robot engineer or even hating to wear a dress is exclusive to men. Im loud, sometimes a bit vulgar, and I too hate dresses. However, there are some things that are exclusive to woman like wearing a dress. In our culture whats considred normal is for women to wear dresses not men. As a parent its my duty to show my child whats acceptable and what not accepable. If my child felt like wearing a bathing suit to school I wouldnt let him do that either
@malonso212004 The status quo is changing. Just because it's something unacceptable to your generation doesn't mean that it's unacceptable in your child's. Women only started wearing trousers around 1970. Before that, it was only acceptable for them to do so while carrying out industrial labor for safety. This means there's still a plethora of people out there who remember such a time and look at women wearing trousers disapprovingly. In the near future, I'm betting you'll be in their shoes.
@chinadollsyndrome I guess we will have to wait and see, but for now its not acceptable. As a parent Im to instruct my child on many things including whats socially acceptable NOW not 20 years down the road. He/she can deal with their kids if and when that time rolls around.
@malonso212004 You misunderstood me. I'm not saying that things will change 20 years down the line, but are already changing. I personally know several men who enjoy wearing skirts. And you know what? They aren't generally looked down on for it. There are some who don't accept it, but the majority of people in our own generation either react positively or not at all. What I'm saying is that 20 years from now it will probably be common place and you'll just have to watch in disgust.
@chinadollsyndrome just because you know several men that wear skirts doesnt mean its common or that it ever will be common. You suggest that I would look in disgust??? FYI: I would never look down on someone for any reason, regardless of how different we may think, look, or believe. What you dont seem to understand is that you dont have to agree with someone in order to treat them with respect, therefore your comment "watch in disgust" is wrong and baseless.
@malonso212004 My point was not how many men I know wear skirts. My point, which you seem to consistently miss, was that there are already many men who do and that people react in a either in a positive light (i.e. compliments and questions of where to get one) or not at all (i.e. they don't think it's anything out of the ordinary or just don't care). And I'm sorry if I offended you, but it still stands that you would be in the place of elderly women who disapprove of girls wearing pants today.
@chinadollsyndrome Just because someone doesnt comment doesnt mean they dont have an opinion. Do you really think a rational person is going to ask a stranger "why are you wearing that?". Are you claiming you know what those people are thinking??? That's bold. Btw, A stance on unfounded fact or reason proves you can not debate and you're persuaded by emotions or feelings. Moreover, you seem closed off to anyone that doesnt think like you--not very open minded.
@malonso212004 NEWFLASH, transgenders are not just people pretending to be the opposite sex, transgenders have an actual problem which is seen at birth and to force them into gender roles they feel they do not belong in cause serious mental and social problems that you're not even aware of. please educate yourself.
Saying that Sheri is stupid or has no brains seems insulting to the commenter. Ridiculing her because her opinion is different from yours is the same as ridiculing a boy for wearing a dress because his way is different from the prescribed way.
She wants to raise a child that fits in w/ certain norms. You may want her opinion to fit in w/ yours. Interesting, no? Seems quite similar to me.
Any child of hers will have to overcome obstacles that are even more daunting than a gender identity problem. The woman doesn't even know that the world is round!
I understand what Sherri is saying in terms of her son, her rules. And I think it's wrong that everyone else is criticizing her so much on her parenting. She can raise him however she wants.
@manweller1 ooooh, read some Orwell have you! Did'nt learn anything from it tho did you. The trouble is, she's not just expressing an opinion, she's advocating imposing it on others!
@acme181169 If you watch the video again. She says quite openly my son-my house. She does not say your house or your son or any one else's. Again she is stating her opinion for her child not your child or mine. when you throw out the term Bigot you de-value it's true meaning.
One hundred years ago women would be mortified if they were made to wear pants. Now they wear them all the time. I bet a hundred years from now men will be wearing skirts and dresses and it will be totally normal. You can see the transformation beginning, case in point: "utilikilts". I see them all the time and not just on Scottish people.
I kind of agree with Sherri. If I had kids, I would not want my son to be wearing a dress. That is just not going to be okay with me. Now, once he is out of my house, he can do whatever he wants but not in my house.

I regret painting all people with a broad brush, but black people tend to be so insecure about non-traditional gender expression.
What is the threat? What is the harm?
I guess, for some people, it's more important to push traditional gender expression than to affirm a child's identy and self esteem. How sad

MrSweatTooth 4 days ago
@MrSweatTooth
Small children naturally do things they shouldn't. It's the parents job to step in and show them the way or the norm. In general, a lot of things we do are learned behaviors; some things aren't. I'm not here to argue that what's biological and what's not. If I never correct my child when they steal/hit other kids, or do something that is generally view as abnormal, than what's the chances they will have a mental problem?
ladyEulaelie 4 days ago
@MrSweatTooth

@NAEIRNBRUFORU What is funny is that women wearing pants was looked down upon as an "abomination" at the turn of the last century. Why? Because of the bible. Now? Perfectly normal.
AvalonDraconis 5 months ago 30
@AvalonDraconis I agree with this and yet my friend who is my nieghbor, his mom wanted a girl after him and she coaxed his younger brother into playing with dolls and other girls and he turned out gay because of the mom's conditioning. as long as that is not happening, I agree, let children (not baby goats) be children.
NWKklown 4 months ago
@NWKklown Playing with dolls does not make a child gay. Neither does cuddling or giving affection. People used to believe that boys who were hugged too much or allowed to speak of their feelings would grow up to be gay, that is totally debunked now. What happened is either your friend is not remembering/telling the story 100% correctly, or he was born gay and it had nothing to do with his mother. My eldest girl loves spider man and iron man, does that mean she will grow up gay? Not likely.
AvalonDraconis 4 months ago
@AvalonDraconis You're not getting it. I never proposed such a thought. I told you he was my neighbor, so I would know. and his mom admitted to her wanting to have a daughter and coaxed him to like girly things and such (it was not merely the dolls/not my point). In the situation described, nurture won out nature. it's cool that your daughter likes spiderman, that has nothing to do with her sexuality or femininity. perhaps read my comment again? I agree with the aforementioned debunked concept.

I still think you'd need to be an adult before you could make that decision for yourself.
EGarrett01 4 months ago
@EGarrett01
No worries.

@rigatony019 "gender rols area good thing and existed before culture could place them on us," only the gender role of men getting food and women raising children purely because men are naturally stronger and men would have lots of children with lots of women. nytheprincess 9 months ago
Why is that so taboo and hard to accept???
malonso212004 9 months ago
@malonso212004 You're saying we should enforce gender roles because they exist naturally, right? That's not true for everyone. There are guyish women, and girly men. When we enforce gender roles, we ostracise those who CAN'T fit in their gender role. Take me, for example. I am loud, sarcastic, future robotics engineer who feels out of her skin in a dress. I spent most of my childhood trying to act "like a real girl". Didn't work. I'll never fit in a "woman's role". What would you have me do?
tangent94 8 months ago
@tangent94 I dont think being loud, sarcastic, robot engineer or even hating to wear a dress is exclusive to men. Im loud, sometimes a bit vulgar, and I too hate dresses. However, there are some things that are exclusive to woman like wearing a dress. In our culture whats considred normal is for women to wear dresses not men. As a parent its my duty to show my child whats acceptable and what not accepable. If my child felt like wearing a bathing suit to school I wouldnt let him do that either
malonso212004 8 months ago
@malonso212004 The status quo is changing. Just because it's something unacceptable to your generation doesn't mean that it's unacceptable in your child's. Women only started wearing trousers around 1970. Before that, it was only acceptable for them to do so while carrying out industrial labor for safety. This means there's still a plethora of people out there who remember such a time and look at women wearing trousers disapprovingly. In the near future, I'm betting you'll be in their shoes.
chinadollsyndrome 7 months ago
@chinadollsyndrome I guess we will have to wait and see, but for now its not acceptable. As a parent Im to instruct my child on many things including whats socially acceptable NOW not 20 years down the road. He/she can deal with their kids if and when that time rolls around.
malonso212004 7 months ago
@malonso212004 You misunderstood me. I'm not saying that things will change 20 years down the line, but are already changing. I personally know several men who enjoy wearing skirts. And you know what? They aren't generally looked down on for it. There are some who don't accept it, but the majority of people in our own generation either react positively or not at all. What I'm saying is that 20 years from now it will probably be common place and you'll just have to watch in disgust.
chinadollsyndrome 7 months ago
@chinadollsyndrome just because you know several men that wear skirts doesnt mean its common or that it ever will be common. You suggest that I would look in disgust??? FYI: I would never look down on someone for any reason, regardless of how different we may think, look, or believe. What you dont seem to understand is that you dont have to agree with someone in order to treat them with respect, therefore your comment "watch in disgust" is wrong and baseless.
malonso212004 7 months ago
@malonso212004 My point was not how many men I know wear skirts. My point, which you seem to consistently miss, was that there are already many men who do and that people react in a either in a positive light (i.e. compliments and questions of where to get one) or not at all (i.e. they don't think it's anything out of the ordinary or just don't care). And I'm sorry if I offended you, but it still stands that you would be in the place of elderly women who disapprove of girls wearing pants today.
chinadollsyndrome 7 months ago
@chinadollsyndrome Just because someone doesnt comment doesnt mean they dont have an opinion. Do you really think a rational person is going to ask a stranger "why are you wearing that?". Are you claiming you know what those people are thinking??? That's bold. Btw, A stance on unfounded fact or reason proves you can not debate and you're persuaded by emotions or feelings. Moreover, you seem closed off to anyone that doesnt think like you--not very open minded.
malonso212004 7 months ago
@malonso212004 NEWFLASH, transgenders are not just people pretending to be the opposite sex, transgenders have an actual problem which is seen at birth and to force them into gender roles they feel they do not belong in cause serious mental and social problems that you're not even aware of. please educate yourself.
