Having just re-watched Seasons 1-4 (waiting for season 5 coming out next month!), I have to say that I think Jennifer Carpenter is one of the best actresses on television today. She has moments of sheer genius as Deb, and I don't say that lightly. Plus the character is soooooooooo endearing - love her!

I think Jennifer is very beautiful. Maybe not in a conventional way (to society's "standard"), but I believe she has a more unique look, not common but still beautiful. Also, I think she is a fantastic actress - she and Michael. Especially when she crying and hysterical lol. Love Dexter!!!

Dex does help her out when she's feeling less confidant, but the show makes it clear that Harry spent more time witih Dexter, so that's not really her fault. At the same time Deb holds him accountable when he's fucking up, snaps him back into reality in a sense when he's lost in his own head. She's passionate, loyal, and honest... and the shit.

Deb's character is the shit! Everyone says she leaned on Dexter too much to help her out but it was because of her they had the big breaks in the ice truck killer case and the skinner case. She shoots her mouth off and is a little neurotic but that just makes her character and the show more interesting. I think the stuff she says is hilarious!

Jennifers character is in my opinion one of the most important characters in the show, because she is one of the few that clearly expresses the consequences of dexters actions and other peoples actions related to Dexters behaviour. Like dexters behaviour in which he never talks about his feelings, Debra is there expressing her feelings and opinions about it. Also, whith Brians (Rudy) relation with Dexter, Debra gets in between. She is like a symbol dexters actions and what consequenses it has.

Her character really contrasts nicely with Dexter in that while all his actions are entirely controlled and planned she is much more sporadic and goes entirely on impulse. I think her character can be hilarious and is one of my favorite members of the cast. Carpenter is an amazing actress too.

I also dislike her character! She's not a smart woman, she relies on Dexter to tell her information to make her look good, at least in the first season and in the second season she goes off with some old guy and gets super clingy. She's just waaay over the top!!! Her character to me was right off the bat unlikeable. I wanted her to die so badly at the end of season 1. Debra and Doakes are my least favorite characters. Michael C Hall is by FAR the greatest actor on this show,jen is one lucky gal!
