  • Ohhhh you New York girls, can't you dance the Polka...

  • Alcoholic puppets! Have a bar room brawl!

  • Wow. There's something about works like these from back in like the 1950s and all that that really turns me on. :)

  • they would appear to be prototypes for captain scarlet & the mysterons.

  • Early Pixar

  • 0:40 is so fucking creepy

  • 0:22 I LOVE the moose!!! Looks like Bullwinkle on crack...Give him the beer!!!!

  • very horrifying, creepy, and catchy.

  • that was scary i will not be watching that after ive had a few beers

  • The tune is an old 1890s one called "Can't you Dance the Polka" that my mom and sister liked to sing.

  • Hey bartender, that last pour is way too foamy. Dump it out and pour me some beer this time!

  • The puppets may be creepy, but I challenge anyone to say the song isn't catchy as hell.

  • chuckys parents

  • robot chicken in the 30s

  • @freedom2skate100 This commercial was actually from the '50s. But yes, a definite resemblance to "Robot Chicken".

  • looks like puppet master puppets almost

  • For a beer commercial that is just creepy.

  • Look closely starting @0:58

There are all sorts of images in that "foam". Old school subliminals....

  • @JoshuaTaylor Mind telling me what I'm supposed to be seeing? I think I can see a gibbon swinging through a tree, but what that sort of message is that supposed to send?

  • shit

  • it was still available in massachusetts asa 16 oz can then it was done in by pbr.

  • Recent research shows high trace contents of mind control golden flavor enriched within every glass of Ballantine.

    Fnord.

  • The guys who did this commercial should have done that creepy Green Giant stop-motion ad where he has that sick smile on his face and moves like his feet are stuck in tar. This is extremely good stop-motion animation for its time and they must have had a big budget to produce this.

  • How many hours to that stop motiom?

  • I actually find myself singing and humming this song in public; it's that catchy. I wonder what happed to Ballantine...

  • @Fawful5 its all over the east coast and its at Fenway Park. After FalStaff sold it,it went to the Pabst Breweries....still in 40 oz bottles or tallboys or 12 oz cans.

  • Ballantine Beer, Ballantine Beer, Brewed on the Shores of The Chesapeake Bay......hey Mable, Black Label

  • 'Purity, Body, Flavor'--The three rings of Ballantine.

I leave the impression up to you.

  • I wish somebody had the commercial for Ballantine Ale. Who is the Ale man, who can he be, a man with thirst that is manly brewed. Three out of four men every time, choose the bolder keener tasting brew, Ballantine Ale.

  • I loooooved that jingle. (The melody is seared in my head).

Uh-uh, don't figure out my age, LOLOLOL.

  • I love it!

Not the lousey beer, the commercial.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • This looks like Ray Harryhausen stop motion animation to me. Quite good quality.

  • This is gonna give me nightmares tonight. But I want a Ballantine now...

  • I wonder if George Pal did the animation?

  • You're close--Dollywood in the Netherlands was Pal's former studio

  • holy crap!

Is that Bin Laden 3rd on the right at 0.42?

  • Can you write me the lyrics, please?

  • Awful beer though.

  • Why in the hell do I feel like I need a beer RIGHT ABOUT NOW??!

  • Ballantine Ale "The Mean Green"

  • The green bottle was the ale.

The beer came in a brown bottle.

Even Hunter S. Thompson writes about the ale, "A cosmic longshot unknown between Newark and Frisco."

It had high alcohol so nuff sed.

NY Giant games had it as a sponser in the 60's. "Who is the Ale man, it could be you".

  • My Dad would drink Ballantine in the quart clear green bottles when he was on the skids, I tried a taste and it was some very bitter stuff. When he reformed himself (slightly) he stopped drinking Ballantine (he drank Bud for another 25 years till he died), I've seen other people on the skids drinking it also so I don't think it's considered "high class".

    The more you know......

  • That was actually cool.

  • Terrifying.

  • if they played this today i would go out and buy it.

  • demonically possessed puppet beer commercial?

  • 39 0004 OHHHHHHH YEAH

  • also works as an excellent laxative....

  • this some scary shit

  • O u take a ring and then another ring and then another ring and then u got 3 rings Ballantime!

  • lt is hard to get!! l tried to get a few sixes of this for a 4th of July party. l called four of the biggest liquor stores near where l live. Not only they were all sold out, they weren't getting any shipments of it for another two weeks.

Also, how many variations of Ballantine are there besides the XXX Ale?

  • those big eyed puppet fucks gave me horrific nightmares from the first time I ever saw this commercial..creepy bastards look like Chucky the Doll's deviant parents or something wicked..LOLOL..

  • about 12 seconds into it I said

"Ok I dont want to watch this anymore"

  • That is awesome.

  • The more l watch this, the more l wanna try a Ballantines. l wonder if they still make it.

  • they sure make it six pack bottles and 16 oz cans, i got some on flag day

  • Wow, that was interesting, & pretty scary too!

  • aaaahhhhh them new york girls cant ya dance the polka!

  • Them New York girls " Cant " dance the polka?? Where have you been all of your life, Try going to " Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The Polish, Slovak, and Russian woman are SUPER and they are the most beautyful girls in the world! They put the American woman to shame! They sure know how to cook too! If you mention McDonalds to them they laugh in your face! : )))

  • ******This is Really Great! ******

A Classic Retro 50's- 60's Commercial. Thanks for helping preserve the past. Lenny Waller NYC

  • Man those puppets looked creepy. Might give nightmares tonite.

  • That's why you need to drink!

  • @imthedorf1964

I agree. Definitely the creeps. I'm 54, but I'm calling for Mommy!

(p.s.) don't turn out the lights.

  • Amazing...

    I need a beer now....

  • This is awesome!

  • carl badenhausen was my great-grandpa

  • How did people digitize these commercials if back then before the age of VHS it was very hard to record television? I'm guessing organized archives are all that can keep these old commercials?

  • They were filmed. They did not have videotape back then

  • obviously... but i wonder how sites like Retroload got these on digital formats, let alone obtain them

  • SATANIC!

  • these characters look alittle creepy

  • That should be creepy, but I really love beer. It makes me feel warm, cozy, and really really thirsty...

  • This is a really cool commercial! I actually like Ballantines, it's a pretty good beer, and inexpensive. Kinda hard to find, though.

  • My father killed my mother in a Balantyne fuled rage ...Good times

  • Your a funny guy.

  • I saw none of the rudolph puppets in that commercial

  • Ballntine produced a series of these ads in the late 50s, created by a Dutch animation studio named (ready?) "Dollywood." I've seen about three different ads for the ale, but I'd really like to see again Ballantine's Double L Light Lager Beer spot, with puppet animation from that same period that scared the living crap out of me at age three! Creepy and HOW!

  • Did people back in the day seriously make the "3-ring" sign in bars/restaurants/stores?

  • Yes they did at their local taverns 3 rings was the Balantine Logo but most of the Bar flies were already know to the bartender.

  • What a cool commercial that was.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • GREAT VID WHAT YEAR WAS THIS?

  • Cool but a little bit creepy...LOL!

  • The process used in this commercial seems like "Claymation", which was used in "Gumby & "Davey and Goliath".

  • More or less. Those shows were stop-motion animation, more specifically called claymation because they used clay figures. This is also stop-motion animation, but it didn't use clay figures, but rather wire-skeleton puppets called "maquettes."

And yes, this is a very cool commercial!

  • This commercial is awesome! My father used to down these all the time.
