Modern, solid state (no moving parts!) high-def video cameras are the thing now! I can recommend the Panasonic HS700 camcorder. It does everything I want, and really well. Over 7 hours of high-def video on a 16GB card - superb!
I love Panasonic. Just not their very low-level prosumer models. I have had my DVX100B for 2 years now, and the only complaints I have are that it isn't natively 16:9, it's standard definition, and it only records to MiniDV. All their stuff with the SD cards and P2's are awesome! In my opinion, much better than Sony, and I have owned several Sony's.
When this came out I contacted Panasonic to tell them it was junk and they yelled at me. Hmmm, I guess I was right. I bought the JVC GY-DV5100 instead and I'm glad I did.
I found out later after sending it back to the repair shop about 5 times that instead of the tape going around the head that the head did not revolve. Intead the tape went around the drum and residue from the tape would build up on the head and the camera would not work. You would then have to take a long Q tip and dip it in alcohol reach in and clean the head. This camera caused me a lot of headaches before I got rid of it. I'll never deal with panasonic again, it'll always be sony.
@blackweatherman yeah my school had these cameras and the heads needs to be cleaned like once or twice a week...i own one now but only cuz it was free...but i never use it since its junk....my 8mm handycam footage looks better....the sensors in these cameras are shit...not worth 700 something at all

Don't know what you talking about dude, the pro-camcorder is nice.. my parents bought mine in 2006 when i graduated for my career as a movie director. it is a good beginner pro-camera for film or broadcast application's.. it's not up there with the Cannon XL's or Sony or JVC's pro-cam's but it's a nice beginner.. i still have mines today and shot many video's, music video's, and some movies.. i will get another pro-camera like the Cannon but i will still keep this one..
It's actually a really great camera. I shot an entire feature on it, and loved it. For an almost DECADE OLD camera, it's fantastic. Of course, I've upgraded to a DVX-100 by now, but for a small price you can get one of these and love it.
@blackweatherman Thanks for your video. I'm currently studying film/digital in college ( I went back to school at 38 yrs. old) and don't know alot about the equipment side of all of this. I have been impressed with other types of sony equipment so what do you recommend?
Zohar, trust me, it would be better to get a GL2, but I would recommend a VX2000 if you're looking for a camera in the 1000 range. Don't buy it because the quality doesn't look ANY thing like a prosumer camera (in my opinion) and lacks good features. It's bulky, and feels awkward. Look at my videos to see how the camera produces footage. It's OKAY, but for the price take my advice.
HAHAHH. I hate this camera too. you should have went with something better! Actually, it's not "my" camera it's my schools, thank goodness! It retails for like 1000 something, and sucks .
Hey [Disasianluvsangle] this camera is the perfect beginner pro-consumer movie camera.. yea it only has 1 CCD instead of 3 and it's sensitive in low light but in film or professional filmming your supposed to used lighting tools like florescent or arial, etc. compare to the panasonic DVX100 a 3CCD this camera has more pixels for a 1CCD and a great picture.. you want to see some nice videos with it look a MY FEW VIDEOS...Please
It is so bad? Why you had it for 3 years long?

Why does it suck? I was thinking about getting one.

It doesn't. He obviously got one with issues, but one bad apple, right?
If you want to see some of the footage this thing can take, check out some of my videos from SURVIVAL, a feature that was shot last year.
