I may not be a believer, but I respect that man for forgiving Ridgway. It took an enormous amount of courage and self control to be able to stand there, given the chance to look this bastard in the face and tell him that he forgave him. The thing is, I think it was the greatest revenge in an ironic way, because Ridgway truly feel what he had done, and finally showed that he too is tormented by the atrocities that he did.

Were it not for advanced forensics and DNA profiling, it would be an unsolved case to this day. Oddly, the problem for investigators was that he 'retired' from killing people. Not a bad thing of course, but it makes it harder to catch a 'former' serial murderer because your task force will dwindle to almost zero because of nothing new, as happened here. It's an interesting case that criminologists will study for years.

Its a personal thing, but it took a large act of compassion on behalf the father, and in cases such as this, forgiveness could be a good thing. Not for Ridgeway's benefit, who IMO, should have still been put out of his misery, but for the victims relatives themselves. If it makes it easier to move on, and not spend the rest of their lives, having hatred eating away at their soul.
