This is indeed on the 12" single of this song. It was released in '86 for a greatest hits album. I also read somewhere that after the release of the greatest hits album, The Police actually were interested in recording new material again, but the usual problems didn't take very long to surface, as they went into a studio and shortly after, the project was abandoned and so was the group.

I absolutely love this song and I prefer this mix, over the 7" version and I prefer this over the original.

By far one of the hardest & rarest mixes to ever find on CD or Vinyl PERIOD! I first discovered this as a background intro on one of the CLUB MTV shows as they prepared to intro another artist "Not the police!" This is a beautiful song & I love this vs the original 70's version!

This was the 1986 remix released by the Police as their last offical single, a prelude to the Greatest Hits package that was released at that time. Its probably available on vinyl from ebay; as far as CD's go, the 7" mix is on the Every Breath You Take Greatest Hits, ans the full version (this version) is on the Message In A Box boxset.

The dance mix of Don't Stand...'86 actually appears on the German edition of the box set. It replaces the "regular" version of Don't Stand...'86 that appears on other box sets. The German edition can be recognized by a small, square, white sticker on the back of the package that reads: Discs Made In Germany.

This version is on the German version of Message in a Box by a company called "Ear Books" in association with A&M universal.

This version is album size, 12" X 12" with more than 50 pages extra of liner notes.

Other than this version of the track swapped out in favor of the original '86 mix, the rest of the discs are identical.

Summer's solo on this should have made this the version to include since the shorter version already made it to CD
