@eJane312 That's Dave Vanian. He is the "Goth Father". They are still going and are fantastic live (I saw them last week). Dave no longer looks like a vampire but is still pleasing on the eye. Lol.

@kevlength The official 7" single that smacked me about the face is a contender for greatest cover versions of all time. This performance didn't make it in my opinion. But the studio version was a major influence on me when I left school early '86.

the damned made a great return to form when they recorded this song. i thought it was interesting(?!) how they radically changed the key of the song, obviously to suit Dave's voice; i think Barry Ryans original was in F and theirs is , i think B., love it though, a great cover,as covers go.

Perfect pop. I still remember listening to this song on Greatest Hits of '86 album. I didn't know that it was by The Damned or anything like that. I just knew the song and the title. Memories keep flooding back!

I like both versions but Barry Ryan's version is better. There is more emphasis on the Chorus, this was a surprise hit for TheDamned though after appearing on No. 73. Barry's Brother Paul wrote the original in 1968, I am reliably informed
