@eJane312 That's Dave Vanian. He is the "Goth Father". They are still going and are fantastic live (I saw them last week). Dave no longer looks like a vampire but is still pleasing on the eye. Lol.
Raw-man Yoog. I think he's half Welsh and half Yugoslavian ( whatever that country means these days). Anyway, he's a half caste like me, and I wish I had his keyboard skills. He's brilliant. He was on Strawberries as a sessionist.
@kevlength The official 7" single that smacked me about the face is a contender for greatest cover versions of all time. This performance didn't make it in my opinion. But the studio version was a major influence on me when I left school early '86.
the damned made a great return to form when they recorded this song. i thought it was interesting(?!) how they radically changed the key of the song, obviously to suit Dave's voice; i think Barry Ryans original was in F and theirs is , i think B., love it though, a great cover,as covers go.
Perfect pop. I still remember listening to this song on Greatest Hits of '86 album. I didn't know that it was by The Damned or anything like that. I just knew the song and the title. Memories keep flooding back!
This probably isn't the best performance they did of the song, but the Damned rock. I always loved them, I love this song and prefer their version anyday
I like both versions but Barry Ryan's version is better. There is more emphasis on the Chorus, this was a surprise hit for TheDamned though after appearing on No. 73. Barry's Brother Paul wrote the original in 1968, I am reliably informed
Pop goes the Damned!! ...this was released at the same time as the 'Far Corporations' version of the same song. The Damneds version wiped the floor with it and I don't the Far Corporation song has been heard since!!!
So cool.... Vanian was "the Damned" during this period. Sorry Scabies dosn't play in the band anymore. I saw them recently for the first time since..... They were very good. Really good actually.
What year is this? Its a bit like a peep into a rehearsal at my local pub, I love this video and I love DV.... I saw his hearse in Putney many years ago with purple curtains....i was on my way to Zetas at the time... He might be driving a 4x4 now but he can still give me a lift to the tube anytime..llol... Dave you are wonderful forever! x
No problem :) Has a decent copy of the 'Rock Around the Dock' version of 'Anything' reached here yet? I've only seen a very "filmed off the telly" version on here, I think.
Like vampires now!!!

The Damned are the best example of how Pub Rock like Eddie and the Hot Rods became Punk... they had a foot in both camps.

This is my very favourite version of "Eloise" by a vastly underrated band! THIS is the band that should be in the RRHOF, not The Sex Pistols.
