  • Nice work :)

  • this is awesome :D

  • please reply.do you model with subsurf on and also, what shapes do you model with.im completely new to modeling

  • @SuperGauss100 : I start modeling with subsurf-off to block out the model's form, and then work with subsurf-on to finalize shape.

Some good starting points/resource for learning Blender: "blender(dot)org/education-help/tutorials", "blendercookie", "blenderguru", and "blenderartists" forum. Good luck!

  • How do yo make the faces so neat? Whenever i Model, the faces are always sloppy, making it harder to model and texture.

  • Nice work, my friend. Great anatomy!

  • wow that is amazing you really have some skill

  • If you were going to create a model that you knew would have clothes on it and you wanted to have the "cloth" physics enabled on the clothes but you needed them to stick to the character model, how would you go about doing that? Being as the character and the outfit that they are wearing are two different/separate objects.

  • Awesome model!!

As a 3d artist in training I would like to ask you something, is it like ''the '' way to first model te model and then add clothing later or is it better to model the model and the clothing as one mesh? I hope that you reply soon.

p.s. sorry for the bad english.

  • @snizzzle1 : I've worked with both methods, depends on the character. If a simple character, it's easier to model only the visible parts following the design. If more realistic, it helps to model the body first as template and then model clothes over top. Body geo hidden underneath clothing can then be deleted or masked to reduce poly count. However, if your character's clothing require cloth simulation, body underneath clothing needs to be kept for cloth to collide with. Good luck!

  • NIICCEEE!

  • hey do you just make it all in one model, or do you model the body first then add clothing/armor over that?

  • @HectagramTv : Body was modeled first, then clothing/armor pieces were tailor-modeled over his body.

  • i bet it was meant to be a marine

  • dude! YOU-ARE-THE-MAN! tsk!

  • aweeeesomeeeeeeee!

  • I love it!

  • Whoa! Is modelling a part of your job or something? I don't know mutch about modelling, but I think it looks awesome!

  • really really nice! :D

  • why an alien may i ask?

  • Wow, that is well made

  • dope

  • Good promo for Blender, great job!

  • Were you going for realism in this? Because the chances of extra-terrestrial life having anything that looks even remotely close to anything we have is almost impossible. (Binoculars)

    Other than that, great work.

  • @Goalatio But you know most likely the fantasy world in which this alien character is supposed to exist in prolly has humans and alien regularly interacting with one another.

  • Wait did you or one of your members work on the Blender Open Project Sintel? Or Durian?

  • I love this and the quality is easily expected of you. I love the lack of over-complicated detail. There's so many ways you could have gone with an alien soldier, but with a design more common to our world and without a ridiculous amount of un-necessary details this really pops as tangible. Loving everyone's work on Sintel thus far, can't wait for completion on that.

  • awesome work man!

    Make a tutorial :)

  • how do you make somthing like this in blender?

  • Favourited!!!! 5*

  • truely awesome!

i dont like the fingers =) but i love the rest

  • you should make a movie with that.

  • WOW, NICE !!!!!

    TUTORIAL!!!!!

  • can anyone teach me how to use blender? please comment on my youtube acc and leave me your email so i can learn from you

  • wow impressive

  • awesome how long did it took u to do that

  • in which file do I put reference photos?

  • You made that in blender?!

I cant wait until l get maya, i cant work with blender its to uninviting...

    All boring and gray.

  • @Cyclopher

It's not from him it's from the makers from

    Blender

  • So what are you saying? The software blender isnt capable of making a model of such precision or ponderstudios just can't do it

  • You're gonna be screwed once you get Maya than :P!

  • Even the new Blender 2.5? :)

  • ahem ,,,, no textures thats why its gray , it's jsut a rpesentation of the simple mesh

  • Brilliant ... Ive just started learning to use blender and thats good.

Very slowly making characters, but its not going to well ... but its getting there.

  • Same here :b..

  • absolutly amazing.. teach me to model with that much detail! wow!

  • wow, dude, awezom!

  • pro

  • wow

  • WOW

    smoth clean and awesome

  • that is awesome

  • ha he only has 4 fingers

    lol

    great model

  • hi, i think you have done a good job, good looking model with nice topology. for a game it might be a bit high poly though according to your wireframes? i also think you have a detail-mismatch when you compare the very detailed face and arms to the relatively simple armor (surface detail wise) but you might just fix this by adding cool texture maps and dirtmaps to the armor. cool stuff nonetheless

  • wao

    incredible good job men

me guzto que le agregaste mapas de normales :)

    good luk:

    ALf!Q

  • WOW

  • please make tutorials, that's awesome.

  • that is so sick!! you should make a video game!

  • awesome awesome work

  • its amazing, good job!

  • Hi,

how do you render the wireframe on top of the texture like you did at second 21 and up?

  • Yep!!! Brilliant work and very encouraging!!! I'm new to Blender and I'm loving it - it also helps to see what other peeps have achieved with it...

I see that you guys are using open source tools as much as possible... too cool :)

Btw - just checked out progress on the Durian project, mind-blowing... Well done!!!

  • wow dude thats amazing if u made it ill in blender 3d lol its 3ds max level work

  • wow...great model !!!

    gassho

  • i am sure you might already know this but Unity is free now and you can import the blender model into it and make a pretty terrific game!

  • @imacusr: We are looking into Unreal for now and possibly Unity later on.

  • Oh, ok, i think you can do some amazing things with this model!

  • @PonderStudios yeah unreal deserves a proper blender support :D unreal is way more advanced and is now free wich greatly icnreases the INDI developers :D

  • @PonderStudios You mean unreal editor?

  • @imacusr but thats when all the materials and texturing aint working properly (;

  • good jobs asked this question many times any tips or how i can learn to do this i have the tools down

  • That is amazing!

I hope that I can get that good someday!

  • sweet

  • really nice clean details! im impressed

  • alittle too human but great

  • Amazing. Where to see more of your works? Also, its not possible that you shared .blend with the material settings and light settings :P I always have problems with that.

  • Thanks for your interest in my work. I'm currently working on Blender's Durian Open Movie. DVD will include .blend files, video tutorials, etc. Please feel free to follow our progress at durian blender open movie.

  • stupendo

  • Dude, that is amazing! I'm just starting out and all I can say is "Wow".

  • me too!

  • hey, do you know how to "highlight" in edit mode?

    (Reply, thanks)

  • "blender wiki noob to pro" and forums such as "blenderartists" or "blendernewbies" provide good starting points/resource for learning Blender. Good luck!

  • in comparison to 3ds Max, Maya or Cinema 4d, to which i'm used to, i always found blender difficult to work with...the userface is not that easy for me to understand...and because of this i admire the people who make really good rigs, models, anims! yours is amazing! keep up the good work!

  • pretty darn good

  • but how do u select that mode?

  • Sculpt mode is selected from the mode menu of the 3D View header. Once activated a sculpt menu will appear in the 3d view header, and three tabs for Sculpt, Brush and Texture panels will appear in the Multires panel, in Editing context (F9). More info can be found at Blender Wiki (Doc:Manual/Modelling/Meshes/Sculpting). Hope this helps!

  • omg thnx

  • Wow! Your talent is amazing!

  • pretty ill.

  • Wow, that is amazing! How long did it take you to fully make? Wish i was as good as that. Keep it up also make some tutorials

  • Thanks - worked on it for about 3 weeks, off and on.

  • good

  • Nice one..... quads are lookin good in the wireframe, too. :)

  • how to make the video soo Hd? Did you click the Hd button in the rendering option/animating buttons?

  • I did not click on the HD button. I set mine at 720x720 to save up on some space.

YouTube will consider a video to be HD using the following format that I have verified so far:

    1920x1080

    1280x720

So with 720x720, YouTube boxed the video in to fit 1280x720 and still considered it HD.

  • Ahh thx man. Hey one more question, is there a format in blender that windows media can play such as WMV or something. I alwaz put mine in quicktime since i believe they are only readable by Windows media player and windows movie maker... any other you know? thx again man

  • We work on Ubuntu linux and my preference is MPG4. The video is tested on Linux and Windows before it is uploaded to YouTube.

  • k man thx

  • superlative talent! as a fellow Canadian (and a 'girl', too), i'm even more proud to learn that you made it onto the Durian team. it's going to be a huge challenge and a fantastic time.

  • Hey, I've been watching tutorials but can't find any that are detailed enough. Could you make one?

    Awesome work!

  • Thanks for your comment - I plan to make tutorials in the future.

  • Yea very good work....

    it motivates me

  • Thats freakishly good. Very good modelling. Great detail. Be great when you finish it.

  • that is awesome. better then awesome but i can't think of a word for it.

  • multi res set to what? (after 8 my cpu goes real slow)

is the wireframe a retopo or the original wireframe of the mesh?

wow you got yourself another subscription

  • Thanks!

Multi-res on body is set to 3. Render level to 4.

    Wireframe is original modeled mesh.

  • Wow.

How long have you been using blender?

  • I started using Blender 2 years ago - after seeing "Elephants Dream" :)

  • Impressive!

  • Very cool! I like how you created a real real personality to your alien character! So many of the sculpts I see are of grotesque zombies/aliens/monsters but this one has mcuh more depth to his design. He doesn't seem nice, but the audience could definitely relate to him. I especially like the pack of cigs he has stuck in his helmet giving him a space vietnam sort of feel. At least I think they are cigarettes. I want to see him blow smoke out both noses now. Fantastic technical showcase.

  • Hey thats pretty cool! I love the style.

    - Oh, and congratulations with your place at the Durian team!

  • Awesome model, nice details. How many faces/verices?

  • Thanks! Base model, no subsurf modifier or multi-res applied = 60,056 faces.
