  • Elliot Easton looks like he is pleasuring his girl (his sweet guitar). 2:08 and 2:12

I told you Elliot Easton is hot :-)

  • OMGosh!!! A rock and roll band that looks hot and NORMAL without 80's hair and spandex. Whoever doesn't think The Cars play Rock and Roll; Lets See You Play That Guitar Like Elliot Easton, Dude :-|

Benjamin and Elliot are SMOKIN HOT!

  • this is a gem. thanks for posting-great guitar work here!! people forget what great guitarist the cars were. rip ben-you had a true rock voice we all enjoy !

  • @101catsville :-) oooh****

  • Greg's busier than a one armed paper hanger with all those gadgets,

  • Awesome !!! I love these guys .And I love Ben .

  • its stephen hawking on keyboards! lol

  • The bands finest tune IMO!

  • every single band member is working overtime on this performance...perhaps one of THE MOST complicated arrangements the band ever released! this song will be played in 100 years on the planet Mars retro radio frequency!

  • omg this so fukin raw cars its amazing, i cant believe this is on the tube. way to go dude

  • love it!

  • New wave at it's rawest!! a New wave, art rock, physedelic rock/pop classic!! They were very diverse rock/poprock band

  • this song is an eargasm, love it.

  • I think it's funny at 2:42 when Greg blows the horn and then Ric turns around like "WTF?"

  • AWESOME!! One of my favorite Cars tunes LIVE! And yes, Greg's so great in this! LOL!

  • classic cars man! greg hawkes rules!

  • this is by far the best vid at Musikladen. And my mein Gott in himmel, the way Elliot makes love to that guitar...

  • OMG when Elliot strokes that guitar...ahhhh ahhhhhhh

  • @tannisheather HOT:)))

  • I think this is a much better version than on the album. Easton's solo has a really, really nice warmth to it. Glad to see others appreciate Greg Hawkes contribution as much as I do. This is easily my favorite Cars live performance.

  • Greg is one VERY talented dude. They ALL are!!

  • Greg never misses a beat! Great video~

  • WOW WOW WOW this kicks ass 4 ways to sunday !!!!!! greg hawkes musical genious

  • hahaha! this iz amazing! find the lyris! its hilarious...

  • I think The Cars took an excellent cue from the Beach Boys "Pet Sounds" album with the use of whistle, triangle and other instruments.

  • Good Lord! I haven't heard this song in so long I forgot it existed! Thanks for posting!

  • can anyone tell me the name of the instrument gregory is playing that twisting one. thanx

  • I've always liked this song, though I don't know why. Any idea what its about?

I used to think he said "spermicide pony."

  • Ha..it's great how they do this one..fun to watch

  • love it or hate it....fan since milkwood

  • Great song, but what is that zippy thing he is using? Looks like something from a tool box...idk!

  • @init4mojo it is called a ratchet

  • a sliding whistle

  • I don't hear any Beatle accent

  • yeah

  • Yeah, The Beatles were and influence of his, but I'm not so sure he's doing that accent here, it does sound very sexy though. Mostly when I've heard him speak, he did not use the Beatle accent. Guess he just did it whenever...

  • I imagine this would be a bad song to listen to while taking LSD.

  • cute percussion parts. love it love it love it.

  • It's so funny watching Greg do all that. It's great how they were able to re-create that song 'live' like that. I love Ben's voice at the beginning introduction.

  • He said he got his accent from The Beatles (lol). I've never really heard him talk with that much of an accent before!

  • I love to hear him harmonizing on this version. He has an amazing voice.

  • @lakefloor He sure does. I love it too. Always sounded so good. Amazing too how he could sing beautifully at a real low range...then sing beautifully at a real high range..back to back. He never sounded strained at all.

  • @ladybluluv And his transition between the two ranges seems effortless. His voice is as smooth as his appearance. I grew up in New England and we got to hear their music before they had a record release. Radio was playing their demo and they became quite popular, a very unique sounding band at that time, largely because of Ben's voice.

  • you ain't lying.

  • Greg Hawkes is the hardest working mad scientist in the rock 'n roll laboratory that is the Cars

  • they pull if off good

  • Don't they? I agree with eurobaby460 - it's well worth it to own the DVD -- it's brilliant. Elliot Easton blows the roof off on every song and the chemistry between him and Orr is fantastic. It's an amazing, intense set.

  • @caraphyllis I couldn't agree with you more. I think Greg is the anchor of the band -- and a brilliant musician!

  • Ben is channeling Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones with that Vox teardrop bass

  • Love it

  • I like this performance over the original.

If you have "Take what you want" from the same gig, I'd love to see it. Thanks!

  • "The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" is politically and monetarily motivated & absolutely out of touch. They can not possibly represent the millions of fans & creators of rock and roll, past and present.Once again an inaccurate portrayal of the masses by an ignorant

    few !

  • The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame said something o the effect that The Cars' body of work wasn't all that impressive or something like that. Unbelieveable, they must have morons in charge of it.

  • LOL - Hawkes was so busy doing this tune.

  • LOL... he sure is. Whats that crank thingy called ? I recognize the vibraslap.

  • DAMN I LOVE THIS SONG!!! SO SIMPLE!!!

  • These guys are genius...

  • It's songs like this one that made The Cars the unique band that they were. No one had a sound quite like theirs. So talented and soooo under rated. Why, oh why are they not in The Rock N Roll Hall of Fame????

  • They really aren't ? That's F'd up. I hadn't heard Ben Orr died. That's sad.

  • he died in Oct 2000- pancreatic cancer

  • RIP, truly a genius

  • You're right. This was my favorite band when I was 13-14? I saw them on their first tour. I still love them, but there are a lot of great bands in history. They'll get there one day... ;)

  • @ LuvUBenjamin4ever I know, it's not right! Before I die, I wanna make sure they get in there.

  • Greg Hawkes is a fucking BEAST.

  • Mellow crowd

  • Where and when was this concert?

  • It was in Germany(Bremen Radio) and it`s called Musikladen (1979?).I think, you can find it on DVD The Cars Live or something, but I don`t own this DVD.Sorry! BTW: I like those strange sounds in the background made by Greg Hawkes.Funny!

  • I think this took place in, I THINK Europe. I'm not sure. I have the DVD. And I think it said this was in Europe.

  • Back of Cars LIve DVD: Shot live at Radio Bremen studios, Germany and broadcast June 7, 1979. Terrific song called "Take What You Want" only on the DVD-must see/hear. Well worth the $20 online direct from Rhino.

  • I thought he said I'm a suicide poney your a big fat macaroni hahaha

  • LMAO and I thought I was the only one who believed that's what the lyrics were :)) I had it on cassette and never knew the true lyrics until I bought it on vinyl w/the lyrics on the inner sleeve a few years later. But yeah, that's exactly what I thought he said way back when...

  • The Cars have more credibility than the whole Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

    Period.

  • I'm a psilocybin pony

    You're a flick fandango phoney

    Awesome!

  • Helloooooooo Tribute to Ben ?

  • love and miss these guys so much. Ric please do a reunion tour (2009) for Ben.

  • man, I'm worn out just watching Greg play all the sound effects and the synths

    yes, pure genius...and timeless music

  • pure music. I would say pure guienious but I dont nkpow how to spell it.

  • Greg Hawkes is an animal! An animal!! :)

  • Classic

  • @JJWalters2000 Agreeeed!! he is all over:) ya gotta love Greg!

  • awesome thanks for posting

  • No problem :) If there's any others you want me to post from that dvd I can, but I think all the others are on youtube.

  • is this from the cars unlocked dvd? i have it but this isnt even on it

  • It's from the The Cars: Live (Muskadin) one.

  • Take What You Want.. and Leave What You Dont?

  • what kind of bass is Orr using?

  • its a Vox of some kind

  • Ya gotta love Greg Hawkes.

  • Haha, ya.

  • Thanks for the video post, it's great. I did a search on him and found some video's on another site where he is playing the ukulele, covering some of the Car's songs. A ukulele! LOL, but it sounds dynamite.
