OMGosh!!! A rock and roll band that looks hot and NORMAL without 80's hair and spandex. Whoever doesn't think The Cars play Rock and Roll; Lets See You Play That Guitar Like Elliot Easton, Dude :-|
this is a gem. thanks for posting-great guitar work here!! people forget what great guitarist the cars were. rip ben-you had a true rock voice we all enjoy !
every single band member is working overtime on this performance...perhaps one of THE MOST complicated arrangements the band ever released! this song will be played in 100 years on the planet Mars retro radio frequency!
I think this is a much better version than on the album. Easton's solo has a really, really nice warmth to it. Glad to see others appreciate Greg Hawkes contribution as much as I do. This is easily my favorite Cars live performance.
Yeah, The Beatles were and influence of his, but I'm not so sure he's doing that accent here, it does sound very sexy though. Mostly when I've heard him speak, he did not use the Beatle accent. Guess he just did it whenever...
It's so funny watching Greg do all that. It's great how they were able to re-create that song 'live' like that. I love Ben's voice at the beginning introduction.
@lakefloor He sure does. I love it too. Always sounded so good. Amazing too how he could sing beautifully at a real low range...then sing beautifully at a real high range..back to back. He never sounded strained at all.
@ladybluluv And his transition between the two ranges seems effortless. His voice is as smooth as his appearance. I grew up in New England and we got to hear their music before they had a record release. Radio was playing their demo and they became quite popular, a very unique sounding band at that time, largely because of Ben's voice.

Don't they? I agree with eurobaby460 - it's well worth it to own the DVD -- it's brilliant. Elliot Easton blows the roof off on every song and the chemistry between him and Orr is fantastic. It's an amazing, intense set.
"The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" is politically and monetarily motivated & absolutely out of touch. They can not possibly represent the millions of fans & creators of rock and roll, past and present.Once again an inaccurate portrayal of the masses by an ignorant
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame said something o the effect that The Cars' body of work wasn't all that impressive or something like that. Unbelieveable, they must have morons in charge of it.
It's songs like this one that made The Cars the unique band that they were. No one had a sound quite like theirs. So talented and soooo under rated. Why, oh why are they not in The Rock N Roll Hall of Fame????
You're right. This was my favorite band when I was 13-14? I saw them on their first tour. I still love them, but there are a lot of great bands in history. They'll get there one day... ;)
It was in Germany(Bremen Radio) and it`s called Musikladen (1979?).I think, you can find it on DVD The Cars Live or something, but I don`t own this DVD.Sorry! BTW: I like those strange sounds in the background made by Greg Hawkes.Funny!
Back of Cars LIve DVD: Shot live at Radio Bremen studios, Germany and broadcast June 7, 1979. Terrific song called "Take What You Want" only on the DVD-must see/hear. Well worth the $20 online direct from Rhino.
LMAO and I thought I was the only one who believed that's what the lyrics were :)) I had it on cassette and never knew the true lyrics until I bought it on vinyl w/the lyrics on the inner sleeve a few years later. But yeah, that's exactly what I thought he said way back when...
Thanks for the video post, it's great. I did a search on him and found some video's on another site where he is playing the ukulele, covering some of the Car's songs. A ukulele! LOL, but it sounds dynamite.
I hadn't heard this song before. I love the Cars, and this is a great sample of their talent... thanks for posting!
