That was seriously an incredible story for an eight-year-old. I can't believe little John Green was able to imagine someone's father dying and publish it in a book.
that book is brilliant. it doen't even sound like a child wrote it. it sounds like an adult who tried to write like a child, in the same way that adult stick figure drawings differ from children's ones.
john, id write DFTBA, but that seems a little unnessecary, since that's not really possible. all i can say is TYFBA- thank you for being awesome :)
This is much better than the "stories" I wrote when I was a little kid. I remember one involved a random girl coming over for the main character's Thanksgiving even though they met like 4 days prior to then. And the same main character's best friend stormed out of the house because the dresser was dusty and it made her sneeze. I wrote her to be saying: "You know dust makes me sneeze!" because I didn't know how to spell allergic...
I'm glad it isn't just me that wrote very, very odd stories in their childhood. I feel better now (though my stories had nowhere near as much awesomeness in them as 'It just isn't fair').
When I was 8, I used to create books like that. I'd sit there, drawing, writing, stapling it all together... and then when I was finished, I'd read it. And then I'd rip it apart. Because I was embarrassed because it wasn't as good as I wanted it to be. :(
Even as a kid I was an unreasonable perfectionist. So I don't actually have anything from my childhood, because I destroyed it all.... :P
Dude, the "about the author" page is the most made of awesome part of this book. It's so self-aware as to be more impressive than the prose that came before it. Kudos, young Nerdfighter!
That book reminds me so much of the little books I used to write when I was 8 :) complete of course with author bio. I used to add newspaper review snippets, as well....
i love how he puts in the actual phone number lol :)
