  • I hear The Office theme in the background, do you?

  • Oh my god, so adorable. I just nerd-died.

  • Kajillion points of awesome for Office theme song. This was adorable. xD

  • I watch this when i am tired/sad/annoyed/bored.

    It never gets old.

  • John gained 1000 cute points for this.

  • "To this day, he is still my best friend, and I still don't know how his father died." Classic John Green ambiguity imbibed ending.

  • 2:06 office theme song <3

  • @poentasticgurl haha! I finally heard it! thanks!

  • is that 30 rock i hear in the background?

  • all i have to say is "awwwwwwwwwwwww." that book is sooo cute! haha!

  • That was seriously an incredible story for an eight-year-old. I can't believe little John Green was able to imagine someone's father dying and publish it in a book.

    Nerdfighter from birth, indeed.

  • that book is brilliant. it doen't even sound like a child wrote it. it sounds like an adult who tried to write like a child, in the same way that adult stick figure drawings differ from children's ones.

john, id write DFTBA, but that seems a little unnessecary, since that's not really possible. all i can say is TYFBA- thank you for being awesome :)

  • Did anyone else hear the "The Office" theme song in the background?

  • THAT'S ADORABLE!

Oh my gosh, why are you two so adorable?

  • "You wanna play?"

  • @mevexatpede Sure, let's get a ball!

  • but now i really really really want to see the other 4...

  • That was one of the funniest things I've ever seen on Vlogbrothers. And that is SAYING SOMETHING.

  • Can anyone else hear The Office theme song in the background?

  • this is so adorable :3

  • i think i broke a few ribs laughing

  • has anyone called that number?

  • You can tell that the characters in the book are all poor because there is a distinct lack of stairs!!!

  • The "about the author" page though... XD

  • My first book... was about a magical golden toilet seat.

It was magical, so it had to be golden aswell.

  • I snorted multiple time while watching this.

  • "you know, it is very windy. it is also very beautiful."

  • does anyone else hear the office theme music or is it just me ?

  • I laughed so hard I almost split the stitches in my mouth. Thanks, Tumblr, for bringing me back to this.

  • My Gosh he was much smater then I am now!!!

  • Every time I watch this, I really wanna sing Florence + The Machine's "The Dog Days Are Over" except with "My mourn days are over" substituted in. :p

  • This is Vern.

    Vern is a dog.

  • I like how the theme song from The Office was playing in the background.

  • I remember my first book. It was called "The Drowning Clefairy." Uh, yeah.

  • Aw, John was a little author, with the author bio in the back of his book and everything. That is the cutest thing ever!

  • "My mourn days are over" Oh John, You were an adorable kid! I live you so much! XD

  • ...that ball looked like a bomb xD

  • oh... *tear*, the most adorable thing I have ever seen

  • My favorite part was "Stunned."

  • NERDFIGHTER FROM BIRTH

  • Has anyone tried calling that number?

  • OFFICE THEME IN THE BACKGROUND.

  • That's adorable... And surprisingly amazing for an 8 year old...

  • Looks like Looking For Alaska just got bumped down to second favorite John Green book.

  • Hahahaha! This is possibly my favorite brotherhood 2.0 video ever.

  • Oh lord words cannot describe how much i love this video possibly one of my favorite old school vlogbrothers videos.

  • 2:05 "WHAT your name?" LMAO!!

  • Insert random Office theme.

  • even john's little kid novels are really good and have the same themes that his actual ones do. im a bit jelous

  • My ultimate goal in life is to birth two brothers as awesome as you two. I would be honored.

  • Office theme song playing in the background. Win.

  • Oh, 90s.

  • Young John Green is so cute.

I just want to hug him.

  • to be honest, I kinda want thst book to be published!

I'd totally read it to my own kids.... once I have them :P

    I want that book!

I call my best friend Verm which is like Vern, but not. Ha!

  • Hi Vern.

  • I LAUGHED SO HARD

  • I feel like the beginning was like a pre-thoughts-from-places thoughts from places.

  • This is my new favorite book...

  • Whenever I'm in a bad mood, I turn on this b2.0 vid and it always brings a smile to my face. Love it!

  • omg the phone number in the story is a 647 number at that is the number from my area in ALABAMA!!

  • Comment removed

  • That is adorable. :)

  • I'm glad it isn't just me that wrote very, very odd stories in their childhood. I feel better now (though my stories had nowhere near as much awesomeness in them as 'It just isn't fair').

  • Did you say "ARE true" or "AREN'T true" at the end?

  • this is quite literally a work of brilliance.

  • Gosh, he put an about the author in there!

  • That last line made it for me. Oh, and "Hi! I'm Alvin Lorus! Oooof course you are." XD

  • I HEAR THE OFFICE!!! :D

  • Its October 29th, Hank? Really? (Uploaded Oct 28th)

  • "At first, he looked completely vice versa from me."

"That was the most stunning moment of my life. I think I stood there for 5 mins."

I was literally laughing at loud. Also, I love that John included a blurb about himself at the end, like in a real book. <3

  • Did anyone notice the Office playing in the background?

  • I like that you can hear "The Office" playing in the background.

  • Oh dear,.....this is amazing

  • Oh, dear....this is amazing.

  • oh my god, i died.

  • Some where around 2min The Office theme starts playing.

  • Am I going crazy... or is that The Office music in the background?

  • I laughed from the word dead all the way to the end of the video. That book was cool.

  • When I was 8, I used to create books like that. I'd sit there, drawing, writing, stapling it all together... and then when I was finished, I'd read it. And then I'd rip it apart. Because I was embarrassed because it wasn't as good as I wanted it to be. :(

Even as a kid I was an unreasonable perfectionist. So I don't actually have anything from my childhood, because I destroyed it all.... :P

  • How old was he when he wrote that?! That was a pretty good book for someone at the age of drawing uber crappy pics :)

  • i've read some fanfics that are not as good as a story from an 8 year old john green.

  • i love the office music in the background

  • "Mean Mitch Learns His Lesson"? Oh my, am I detecting a bit of a theme here? XD This is just far too adorable.

  • "Nerd fighter from birth"! I love it.

  • Dude, the "about the author" page is the most made of awesome part of this book. It's so self-aware as to be more impressive than the prose that came before it. Kudos, young Nerdfighter!

  • I start laughing everytimehe says "Wiimp!" :D 1:23 1:35

  • NOTE: I luv your glasses

  • That book reminds me so much of the little books I used to write when I was 8 :) complete of course with author bio. I used to add newspaper review snippets, as well....

  • While talking about Rick, I think I hear the theme song for the office in the back ground :D

  • I watch this video when I'm sad.

  • wow, I haven't laughed like this at a youtube video for a long time!

    Best book ever! Nerdfighters!!!

  • Yay for the office!

  • that made my day.....then again your videos always do

  • o.m.g. i haven't laughed this much watching a youtube video, like, ever.

  • STUNNED.

  • This is the awesomest book I have ever had the pleasure of reading (better than anything I wrote at that age...or at any age). And I am totally going to name my kid Alvin Lorus now.

John still draws better than me, even as an eight year old.

  • I'm Alvin Larus.

  • BTW, I reeeeeaaaally want to see slash hear "Mean Mitch Learns His Lesson." John, please say you have some more childhood books stowed away somewhere! 8-)

  • Oh, this is delectable! 8-)

    My favorite moments:

    "I'm Alvin Lauris."

    "What your name?"

The stunned bubble & "My mourn days are over."

  • "I'm Alvin Lauris."

    "of course your Alvin Lauris."

  • Someone is watching the office at 2:05

  • yeah I just noticed that too!

  • that story was amazing. it was nerdfightastic and so jokes!!!!

(btw, that was 10 words, if comments on old videos count)

  • That was one of the most freaking adorable and hilarious books ever.

  • The beginnings of the Colonel??? Glad to see John found his style at such an early age.

  • sure the colonel's dad isn't dead, but there's a pleasant similarity.

  • Lmao! "This is Fern. Fern is a dog."

  • I like the gangsta at the beginning. "You just tryin to be cool~"

    "Let's get some lunch."

    "OK."

    Hahahahaha this is amazing!

  • i know i just signed that like it was a letter....not sure why

  • wow i've been writing for years and i'm 15 and this is better than anything i've ever written. i'm not even kidding hahaha i feel so dwarfed by this!!!!!!!

  • LOVE IT. It really does remind me of Looking for Alaska, well I suppose it's where he got the idea from.

  • When I was 8, I wrote a book about murdering my brother.

  • HAHAHAHA, really? Oh, that is so awesome. That made my day.

  • I laughed hysterically for a long time.

  • I've watched this video many, many, many times but this was the first time I ever heard "The Office" theme song in the background. Nice!

  • so. good.

  • "Let's get some lunch!" lol

aha, that was a deep story for an eight year old o.o I vaguely remember writing a book on a flying-super potato when I was eight...

  • Hay, I hear the Office theme music in the background, Hank if you like the Office you will be more made of AWSOM than i thought :D

  • oh my god. that was genius. I couldn't stop laughing.

  • That's soooo adorable! SO much love. SO jokes!

  • oh man. this video always makes me happy.

  • It is so freakin creepy how much John's books as a kid sounds like my books as a kid. It's a Nerdfighter-from-birth thing I guess.

  • oh god.

    This is fantastic.

I wish I had kept childhood memorabilia, because that shizz is made of awesome.

  • I definitely heard the Office theme song in the background when Hank was reading the story. And I got confused, because that's my ring tone.

  • Something tells me he had some outside influences, like the phone number.

    Hmmm.

    lol

  • *STUNNED*

    lol

  • Aww! This made me love John even more. I remember writing a book when I was 8, and it was about talking vegetables, and my grammar was oh-so horrible. You seem sliiightly smarter at than age than I was. haha

  • yay for the number 4 in our usernames!

  • 4s ftw! :D

  • That story was great. I particularly like the illustrations.

  • They *are* pretty jokes.
