because if you make mistakes (not to say the thrower is) but if you do, the pot will not turn out right. it could be uneven or have a sharp lip or a million other things. so, dont wet the clay before you throw it on.
that was pretty cool but at 2:40 it looked like it was gonna shit itself... i have a eramics assignment at school and im looking for ideas.. i havnt used a wheel before tho.... you got any suggestions..... please...... anyway kool vid
sit closer to the wheel and place your left elbow near the junction of your thigh. All you need to do at this time is lean slowly forward with your weight, using the heel of your left to push the clay to the center. You can use your right on top to keep the clay on track and under control. ( try this and see if it works for you, I have helped lots of college students learn to center this way when they have trouble with the other ways).
if u put ur elbows on the inside of ur legs and use ur legs to push ur arms, it will save u alot of arm strength, but of course, u will need to make the seat a little higher to adjust so u can put ur elbows by ur legs. give it a try, it helps a lot, esp when centering.
I love ceramics too! So glad to see it isn't just me that has problems centering! I really should sit down at my wheel again sometime soon!

I'm a beginner too but wow your really good!
Yeah the arm on leg thing really works, not only for pressure, but resting your elbow on your leg makes your hands more steady :)

i was guna say the same thing. i was taught to never wet the clay before you throw it down. but then again, my teacher is a pot head hippie.
