  • He is very bad with the banjo

  • Haha, I like how the toes tapping in the beginning is just the middle toe. Creepy.

  • dueling banjos, that's the name of this tune. that beep is very annoying and kills the sound of the banjo but that's some good banjo pickin!

  • Some people just have the gift! Wish I could play. All I can do is sing.

  • i just got a banjo and that first song seems like it would be a easy one to learn. whats the name of it??

    please help

  • @jamie69247 Its called Dueling Banjos, plenty of different people have covered it.

  • @jamie69247 the song title is "Dueling Banjos" it is traditionally played on 2 Banjos and is best known for being played with a banjo and a guitar in the movie "Deliverance".

  • @jamie69247 It was dueling Banjos and trust me its not the easyiest one the one you should learn first is Boul Them Cabiage Down, thats the easyiest.

  • @jamie69247

It might look easy but it is a very hard instument to play well. Years of practice my friend.

  • @skipper8257 Am I making a mistake if I say I want to learn it? It is such an awesome instrument!

  • damn beeping drove me nuts, but nice playing.

  • puto metrónomo

  • That wasn't too bad. I wish I could hear him though. Still love it. I play banjo, too, so I might take on the challenge...lol, probably not.

  • gah i hate that background alarm thing...

  • @getjaevel that's a metrenome (spelling?) and it's used by muscians to practice timing, i guess they are just using it to prove how fast he's playing

  • @cbrnate Metronome, just for the record

  • @cbrnate Metronome, just for the record

  • haha that guys toes in the back

  • that metronome is irritating

  • This guitars fors grandpas guitar.

  • yea noooooo not so much..... apparently you havent heard the orange blossom special by the Stanley Brothers on the Album Appalachian Stomp.......Beats the heck outta this by far!!!!!!

  • Is it due to the construction easier to play the banjo faster than a guitar? Who knows the answer?

  • Love to see this guy on Rock Band on PS3 he'd piss it!!!! LOL.

  • the metronome overpowers the banjo itself...

  • I agree, but the banjo pickin is fantastic

  • sure wish i could hear him play but that damn BEEPING is driving me crazy hahah

  • banjo solo ROFL!

  • i had my first guitar lesson with jonny 12 years ago, sadly smashed my hand so cant play. he lived next door to my parents in england

  • HAHAHAH that toe just got me in a farkin spaz laugh after reading comments i had to watch it again.i would watch it over and over again for entertainment when im of my face but i would prolly stab myself if i had to listen to the metronome one more time. hahahahaha farrrk i cant stop laughing at how wallycastro3 comented on his swimming skills, the TUBE is for sure the bang for entertainment.

  • LOL I like how everyone noticed the mokey toes as mine are called ...we use those to help us climb trees, well I do I could so slap a banjo with a heavinly tune using my finger toes :)

  • wats the high pitch sound all the way through it ?

  • It's a metronome.

  • LOL He can cross a river swiming only with his toe.

  • Lmao...

  • HAHAHA YOU ROCK DUDE

  • LMAO THE TOE!!!!!

what the fuck is that guy sayin!? i cant understand a fuckin word

  • wtf , this aint the fastest person , hes even playing a cover , its call dueling banjos and its supose to be played with two banjos or one banjo and one guitar ...

  • Guiness world records stated that for this particular record the song has to be duelling banjos and that it needs to start out at normal pace, then needs to speed up to 260BPM.

  • wouldn't sounded so great if that machine would just shut up lol

  • That's nice and clever, but it would be interesting to hear the same thing slowed just a bit to check for accuracy and "clean".

The group afterword was VERY GOOD - would like to know more about them for sure - Nice harmony, nice drive and they just Looked decent too - a welcome change :)

  • OMG @ THE TOE X2!!!!!!!!

  • amazing, how on earth does that guy move his middle toe without the others too?:s

  • unbelievable, absolutely amazing

  • moving toe killed the banjo star

  • hahahahahahah super toe

  • Awesome pickin' but look at the fuggin toe!!!!

  • sounds a little like Bucketheads "Hog Bitch Stomp"

  • the toe is weird isn't it?, but that man sure can play...I think the squeeky noise is the toe..

  • smoking precision !!! props to a great picker !

  • OMG @ THE TOE!!

  • THE TOE!

  • Very cool!!

Caught this video over on John Denner's page!

    SWEEETTT!!!!

  • lol i see it aswell

  • omg omg that is hilariius just his midle toe lmao thanks for pointing that out!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • look in the background!!!! there's a guy tapping his TOE! not his foot! a SINGLE TOE! creepy [bottom right]

  • lol wierd!

  • Hahaha nice observation

  • holy crap!! lol

  • LOL

  • LOLOLOL I saw that toO!!!

  • OMFG!! That is just not right....evil!!!!

  • I'd tap that...

  • God thats sick and creepy!!!! lol

  • L O L

  • Oh come on. Raymond Fairchild is faster and cleaner.

  • He is certainly fast, but I have to say Jens Kruger's "Waterfall" trumps his speed

  • Brill!! I was listening to this last week in the car, on the way to Lyme Regis, with my Uncle Chris (Osborne).......

  • Cubase SX, the best music software!

  • Are you holding the Guinness World record or does Todd Taylor still hold it

  • oh im sorry to hear that...but hes still a good banjo player and so are you. Todd set the record at 210 beats per minute

  • Awesome !

Maybe someday Ernie Ball Musicman will make a Banjo

then I can try to break your record!!!

    Rock on,

    John Denner

  • Bela is faster and cleaner than anybody on the planet. He rarely plays that fast though because he knows thats not what its all about.

  • Not only is Johnny Butten the fastest bajoisticly plunker;Johnny Butten is also a fiddle virseeoesew. William(Big Boy)Beier

  • That was terribly...............fast. And I love those Ken Kroyden banjos, inlayed in genuine "mother of toilet seat".

  • I am sure this guy is fast, but I couldnt hear it through because of the background noice. It totaly drove me nuts.

  • same

  • Johnny is originally from England. After he got the record he moved to Hawley MN of all places. He came over to me annual summer music & pig picking cookout last summer. All the other players at the cook out are old time musician (pre-bluegrass). He is a pretty impressive player.

  • Nice picking but the sweaking in the background is completely annoying.

  • Taylor is a very nice person... and he's a fairly 'fast' banjo player.. pretty slick to claim to be the World's fastest and then not allow opposing comment... ha!

But if you want fast ..... AND (here's the kicker...) CLEAN .....check out Little Roy Lewis of the Lewis Family fame.

  • that metronome is annoying as hell

  • Better if the metronome wasn't so loud

  • Very nice pickin'...but fast isn't everything! Jens Kruger is faster, and waaay 'cleaner'. Check him out here on YouTube.

  • in the begining of the video tht foot thts in the corner keeps staring at me....it wants to eat me!!!!!!!o n good job sounds neat

  • SWEET PLAYING!

  • Oh my god is this amazing!!

    THIS ROCKS!!!

Thanks for turning me onto John Denner by the way..

I'm leaving a few commemts on his video

  • By far the wolrds fastest!

    FANTASTIC JOB

  • i dont know why but i cant play with a metronome it gets me out of rhythm

  • that is not a record actually that is very average to slow....he is playing half of the 260 bpm which makes it 130...check out Todd Taylor he is way faster

  • Actually Koky, every bleep you hear is an 'on beat' and if you count every bleap you hearit will be 260 every minute. If every other bleep were an 'on beat' and every second bleep an 'offbeat' then yes it would only be 130 beats per minute.

  • Why did Todd Taylor disable comments after Johnny Butten took the record?

The Minnesota Public Radio page about Johnny Butten moving from England to Minnesota has the certificate from the Guinness World Records.

  • haha, deliverance rocked

  • its fun to watch the toe in bottom right of screen

  • thats not heaavy enough maine

  • top x

  • only if someone could play some black metal on a banjo

  • they can, check out "electric banjo" i play decently, need to get some vids. up, its a uniquely annoying sound in a banjo/special way

  • look at buddy's middle toe lol

  • lmfao, yea, thats weird, the other ones arent moving

  • why wouldnt that go in the guiness world record too?

  • thats more ripley's material lol

  • whats up with his toe? i dont see it? where is it?

  • whats the backround beep?

  • Danny the background beep is the digital metronome that Johnny had to have audible for Gunness to check the speed..annoying I know, but no more annoying than hearing him practice that damn tune for 3 months!! lol

  • lol, check the foot in the right corner XD

  • It's only some fingers !!!! LOL

  • Great m8!

  • this is insane. it makes me want to play banjo and listen to bluegrass a lot now

  • bettern todd

  • 5-star!

  • its bens dad!

  • did johnny beat todd taylor

  • yes he did runescapeia :-)

  • gratz to him :D

  • i see banjoman22 (uploader of Todd Taylor playing) has disabled comments for his video XD

guess he dont want people to know about Johnny Butten.

  • Banjoman 22 IS Todd Taylor!....thanks for the kind support

  • Ahh is he? So are you Johnny Butten?

    killerbanjo

  • No, I'm Johnny's wife :-)

  • ahh cool

  • Most impressive. Too back the sound quality is not the best. I found it interesting that when comparing this video with the one by Todd Taylor the fingering with the left hand is much different, but the sound seems the same. Regardless, I'm an old fogie; to me, "Missile Ride" by the immortal Don Reno remains the fastest banjo picking ever.

  • cool beans man. yous a true banjo hardcore

  • Hey Johnny! I just heard the good news from Frank, Via mum. OFFICIAL! The worlds fastest banjo player!!! (so far)

    Congratulations again!

  • Well done JB

Now its official I wonder how the "experts" feel!!

I have been practicing & can now play it at 200 beats .... per hour!!

    Dean

  • me too lol

  • Superb!

  • Wow Johnny!

That was amazing. It's not just the fastest, but also the most effortless version of duelling Banjo's ive ever heard.

    Congratulations!!

It's Reuben, by the way. ;)

  • Amazing Dude!!!!! pure Genius! and that banjo is just stunning.

  • I was there in the crowd and loved every minute! He is a fantastic player!

  • Wow!! Well done Johnny! We SO wanted to be there but at least we get to see it! This is 1 talented man, ladies and gentleman.
