  • The definition of a Survivor is a car kept clean & running condition with only the replacement of 'serviceable' items like lightbulbs, tires, battery, shocks, belts & hoses. Things like repaints, changed wheel styles, option additions, & aftermarket features move the vehicle further away from the definition of Survivor & more into the classification of Restored. It is very difficult to keep original stock than to adapt & modify, hence the definition between original survivor & restored stock.

  • @bfmcarparts YES! You are correct. I knew the definition of a survivor car. What was I thinking? Anyway, again I thank you for your imput. This Firebird is neither an original car nor is it a survivor. Itsa restored and somewhat modified vehicle. Thanks so much.

  • Hello 55linc, I've thought it over and decided to point out two major "what's going on here?" details. No 1967-69 350 cu. in. Firebirds were produced with a 400-style hood. Also the interior, is this car a Standard interior with Custom seats or a Custom interior with Standard door and back seat panels?

Does this car still sound like an Original or Survivor car?

  • @bfmcarparts You got me about the interior - whether it's standard or custom. I haven't a clue. I thought, talking to the owner, that the interior was factory. SO, I would definetly say that this Firebird is not original, BUT it still exists, it has been restored, so it survived to this day. Meaning, that it is a survivor car. Thanks again so much for your imput. It is truly appreciated.

  • It is a very nice car but if it was entered into Pontiac-Oakland Club International Convention judging, the show judging technicians would be forced to reclass this vehicle into the 'Modified' class, & certainly not an 'Original/Survivor'. Just a quick look through your video showed nearly 20 additions, changes & modifications that would question the statement 'original' & mislead a novice to believe what is right. The techs have a tough job, but it helps prevent embarassment for the owner.

  • @bfmcarparts I post these car videos to educate myself and others about vehicles and always interested in learning more. Listening to the owner of this bird nothing was mentioned about alterations. Can you list for me and other viewers the nearly 20 additions you found on this car? I would be very appreciative of your knowledge. So this isn't an original but just a survivor.

  • @bfmcarparts Hello 55linc, I'm rather reluctant to do this as to prevent angering the vehicle owner. When the POCI introduced the points judged system at their annual convention, we 'test-ran' the points system for 2-3 years, & it caused much grief with owners who were restoring their cars but not looking at unrestored cars to see how things were done on the assembly line. If you know the owner of this car & he's willing to accept 'constructive' criticism, I will write an analysis of this car.

  • This looks like an award winner. Very, very nice.

  • @historybuffish Oh, its super nice. No kidding. Thanks for viewing.

  • Hey, Warren! No wonder it is an award winner! Everything looked perfect to me..in fact if any criticism could be leveled, it would be that it is better than original! I'd much rather be on that side of originality! Looks like it has A/C..I figure that had to be pretty rare! :) Jack

  • @raconter1 Jack, you should have seen this in person! Yes, I think A/C as an option was rare but was an option that was gaining in popularity. I had A/C on my '68 Chevy. But, I agree with you in that it looks perfect in many ways and very close to originality. Thanks for commenting.
