It has now come out that Abdullah the Butcher tested positive for Hep C. I'm sure Carlos Colon has it too with the 100's of matches he has had. I heard from an IWA friend who know Invader #1 when he was in the office that he stoped wreslting the first time because he was Hep C positive. It's been a big cover up in the industry for a long time. Promoters like Colon don't want it coming out because it's so common and would effect blood matches making them money in the future.
No wonder Carlito & Primo suck. They're almost as bad as their murderer dad. 'Cause he is a murderer, if he knows that Invader guy killed Brody and didn't turned him in, he is a muderer too.
@YanivthePS3fan 1. I think Gordon fabricated the "ban" to draw more heat for the match. Commentators used to say stuff like that all the time. 2. It might also have been for the benefit of Colon's home crowd who were watching on closed circuit television in Puerto Rico, wondering why their hero was taking such a big match in the States and not in PR. Solie was preserving Colon's rep.. In the territory days, fans were often kept unware that their local heroes worked feuds elsewhere.
@VinceThePinch Have you seen the interview where Tony Atlas retells the story of the murder? It's on Youtube. Of the wrestlers in the locker room that night, he was the closest to what we'd call an eyewitness. BTW, what's your take on "The Manny Fernandez Receipt?" If you like tales of wrestling murders, read Jim Wilson's "Chokehold." He tells a humdinger on the Maivias (i.e. The Rock's family) in Hawaii. Also, Lou Thesz' autobiography contains a good one about his time in Singapore.
@Anaxagoran I agree with you. He could have turned Brody's killer in but wouldn't do it for business reasons or something stupid. He should be very ashamed of himself. And the part the sickens me is he still considers himself a friend of Brody's.
@Anaxagoran DIDNT HAVE A PART IN THE MURDER FOR YOUR INFO ,TAKE NOTE !!!On July 16, 1988, Brusier Brody was scheduled to wrestle later that night when he was stabbed in the dressing room of a coliseum in San Juan Puerto Rico. "Tell my son I love him...and my wife I love her, too", were his final words to Carlos Colon, according to "PWI magazine".
@Anaxagoran ffs you should think before you open your mouth colon NEVER faced any charges so how the hell do you make sense there was 50 wrestlers there that night
@TheMarkc Because they fucking covered it up. I think you should think before you open your mouth fuckhead. I've read and watched many more things about it that you, jackass. You don't know as much as you think you do.
@Anaxagoran and you are a dumb piece of shit thinking you know everything just cuz you read some articles... fuck you and get on with your miserable life jackass
a lot memories i grow up in puertorico and abdullah it`s like a king of wrestling bestever better than hogan, flair, funk brothers dusty rhodes he was a real wrestler
Wow! This was so typical of main even matches. The ref gets knocked out, the good guy goes down for the pin then someone interferes & injures the good guy. Just when the bad guy goes for the pin, the ref gains consciousness & starts the count & the bad guy wins. I just love it.
Abdullah the Butcher, true legend. It's hard to believe the man is almost 70 years old and still will get into the ring from time to time, and still uses the same brutal hardcore style.
haha banned in puerto rico? please, i lived in puerto rico and used to watch abdullah and carlos bloody the hell out of each other every night. trust me, nothing was ever banned haha. but good call by solie to hype up the match, cause most people watching wouldnt know
gordon solie doesn't get enough credit 4 his genius, he immediately promotes the match & captivates our minds with the statement "this match was banned n puerto rico" --- this is what is missing from pro wrestling 2day ... intelligence ... gordon solie was a great story teller n his own right, he really gave the sport a sense of realism by stating each wrestler's background n athletics etc., i love the way he & coach john heath called matches n florida, heath knew the human anatomy & the science
This was the same night of ric flair title win over race in a cage and brisoces loss tag tiles to youngblood and steamboat what a card this match is underated
Before JCP merged the two, Georgia always had the Thanksgiving Tag Team Tournament. The big thing that night was the tag team of Magnum T.A. and Randy Savage. That upset Mr. Wrestling II, who feared that Magnum would turn heel. Strange that II did a heel turn on Magnum. Abdullah and Colon were from another territory at the time (Puerto Rico). I think that this was Colon's only appearance on a Crockett card.
@mkl62 that was not Carlos Colon's only appearance in the Mid-Atlantic area, he had a series of matches with Tully Blanchard for both the Tully's World TV title and Carlos' Universal Title
I remembered looking at the wrestling mags and these wrestlers were bloodied like crazy never seen anything like that freaked me out when I was young in the pX cause I grew up watching WWF and WCW and never saw that kind of damage always when I turned the pages there was Abdullah the butcher never seen nothing like that
It's a shame they didn't put this match on the Starrcade DVD, at least they have three other matches on there. This match is really violent, no question.
Bob Caudle has had the nerve to state in interviews that he felt Gordon Solie added nothing to the Starrcade broadcast and that he couldn't understand why Solie was brought in to work with him. Well, Bobby, take a long and OBJECTIVE listen to your work compared to the work of Solie and others. If this doesn't help you understand, nothing will. Talent is noticed and rewarded; thus why Solie got the invite. You say Solie added nothing to the broadcast? Caudle, what did you add?
Gordon Solie was one of the things that made my 70's Georgia/World Championship Wrestling days great. I still have old wrestling programs from the events with him on it. Caudle? I only saw glimpses of him. There's the comparison. Solie's name in wrestling is synonymous LONG before Caudle's.
I agree! In my opinion, unlike other wrestling commentators, Solie was (very) articulate and, like some of the wrestlers, charismatic! Thank God I, STILL, have two of the, currently, out-of-print, NWA/WCW wrestling videos-Pro-Wrestling Illustrated's Lords of The Ring and Ring Masters: the Great American Bash. Solie commentates Lords... and Tony Schiavone commentates Ring Masters.
To add, years ago long before wrestling became so marketable in other products, Gordon Solie wrote a book called, "Lords of the Ring". And as you know, many other wrestlers and managers wrote books ever since Mick Foley wrote his first book because of the marketability Did Caudle ever write a book with all of his years of commentary ? Again, Bob Caudle could NEVER measure up to Gordon Solie.
I also went to point out that on the SAME CARD : The sixth match was unbeleivable Dog Collar fight between Roddy Piper and Greg Valentine. You certainly all remember that Valentine seriously injured Piper's left ear during the match.Despite the seriousness of the enjury, Piper pinned Valentine with the chain wrapped around his legs.
