I used to speak kapampangan fluently and I forgot a lot of my kapampangan when I started school and I got used to speaking english a lot more. My parents still speak to me in kapampangan and I usually speak back to them in english or some few phrases in kampampanga. i really want to learn how to speak fluently again, but its been pretty hard since it just sounds weird with my accent.
Your not a flip, but a person of Fil blood with no concept of the Flip culture, if there is one? I am a person born in the phil of none Filipino parents. I speak Taga Span,Portu and Russki. You know your Span pronunciation,is shocking , No insulto, por favor, pero tudo estrangero. . Your comments are interst,You & I are not Filipino. We are mindsets in our upbringing .
We have no authority to judge other than to condemn Phil for being one of the most corrupt Country's on earth.
I mean, you are not the most reliable person to do so. however, you wanted to do the job of explaining to that person about being filipino and asian as well. You can add one info to your stock knowledge, Filipinos, esp. OFW's learn fast any language they are exposed . A trait that no other people on earth does.
Actually, any person, if living in a foreign country and if being constantly exposed to a foreign language will learn it (the language) fast. Simply because the language is everywhere.
Stating that that is a specifically filipino trait is a false myth and racist.
do you speak Pilipino? (Filipino refers to the people and Pilipino, the language) and have you been to the Philippines or just making analyses and conjectures from books/materials in the library or from the internet? If so, then you are a reliable person to give insights about the country and its people.
uh..the correct name for the language is called tagalog, and calling it filipino is alright sometimes, but it's definetly not called "pilipino." you've probably heard filipinos themsleves call it "pilipino," but that is because of their accent. anyone who is of filipino descent and educated about their race is a reliable person to give insights of the country and its people, you don't neccessarily have to go to the philippines. this goes for all countries/races......
why does Filipinos always say they are Spanish instead of saying they are Filipinos, be proud!
not all Filipino has a Spanish descent. but i actually do, Im born and raised in philippines with a Chinese backround and Spanish ancestors and id say im a Filipino, cuz that is where i was raised.
Actually, hardly any Filipino has spanish blood in them. Most of us just have those spanish surnames because of the spanish Generalgouverneur Narciso Claveria, who passed a law in 1849 that all personnel in the Philippines must bear a spanish name taken from a list called the "Catálogo Alfabético de Apellidos". Now some of these names were even of Malay origin. But these were all to often insults, to degrate the population further. The chinese names there, also had special rules to be upheld.
good for you, well i can speak 5 languages and not that frequent in spanish(still learning), but good for you because most of filipinos here in america are shy on speaking filipino language. They also tend to think more superior than filipinos living in the philippines... Big 5 for you kababayan!!
its good to watch someone who can address Filipino issues... well, sometimes I don't really get why some people (or should i say race) keep on making big deals with how Filipinos look like or act like....why not study Philippine history and figure out all your issues...But anyway...mabuhay ka jokway!!!hahaha
damn i wish i could speak spanish...im 14 yrs old and i live in laguna in the philippines...heheh i grew up here sa pinas...well i do look spanish..because my family background my parents and grandparents are mestizo and mestizas!lols!anyways have u been in the philippines?
wow! ur just keep on amazing me with ur vids.. ur such a cutie smart guy! wer can i learn more about u?? and ur "vlog"? im getting more and more interested.. hope u will notice my comment somehow...
as an avid viewer of his blogs .. you dont need to ask, doesn't make him a less Fil? 1st.. because 1st he is still in the process of learning it.. and 2nd he was born in the US. so.. the primary language is english.. we are blessed enough to have him.. to voice out his thoughts and still have the Fil. mouth for us. =D peace! =D
What is the same thing that I noticed...all Filipinos who are born here in the U.S. have a nice English accent especially among men...the accent is very unique among Filipino ... it is a cute accent. I like it.
Jokway - it doesn't make you less of a Filipino by not speaking the language. It makes you even more a Filipino by standing up for many Filipinos who felt maligned by aznviet.
Filipino is a term both used to mean the Philippine national language, and a Philippine national. Based on the dialect tagalog, the Filipino language is still evolving to include words from the other Philippine dialects as well as English and Spanish filipinised.
i love your first vlog though, you defended the whole filipino is asian very well.. applause to you..
such a shame you can't speak filipino or tagalog.. but i doesn't really matter, doesn't make you bad in any way..
i speak filipino, cebuano, waray and i forgot.. there are about 80 dialects here.. i know one dialect more, i forgot the name of that dialect.. more like waray but very different..
Pilipino WAS the national language.. it became Filipino after or during the term of Marcos.. i can't remember very much.. Pilipino is simply the Filipino (language) of Filipino (men&woman & language) ...
Gusto ko lamang iwasto sa hindi nakakaalam na ang Pilipino ay dapat bigkasin at isulat ng tama. It is just like your English class. You have noun, pronoun, adjective and more. Kung bara-bara ang bigkas mo nito pakiwari ko gamit mo ay ang tagalog. Tagalog is the dialect in Manila or katagalogan area. Moreso, Filipino is the people from Philippines. Pilipino is the national language.Pilipino is the people of the Philippines.
Hahaha!!! Mabuhay ka!!!
It doesn't really matter whether you know how to speak a filipino language, what important is you're proud being a filipino and that's what I like from you. Stay cool bro.
De iure Tagalog and Filipino are different. But de facto they're the same. And I never heard anybody calling it Filipino, unless they talked to foreigners.
Tagalog and Filipino is like differentiating 汉语 and Chinese.
hey about ur vid about flips being asians not pacific islanders.... i just had an anrgument with an acquaintance right now... it pisses me off when people call me pacific islander... i am asian! i dont knw why they dont get it... it explains it in grade school... and obviously its in geography class! ugh!!! makes me mad!
Filipinos are more on Latinos and Pacific Islanders. There might be asian descents but Philippines is a very multicultural country where all filipinos has it's own distinctive races when they tries to track their origins... Viva Islas Filipinas!... viva Mexico... viva Espania!...
Look, I'm Filipino. I've been living, studying and working here in Manila Philippines. There are no Latinos and Pacific Islander Pinoys of Origin here. Filipinos are 110% Asian. Let me make this clear to you.
We FILIPINOS in the Phils are mix a of:
MALAYS + INDONES + CHINESE + (SOME SPANISH) = FILIPINO.Get it? Learn it.
the story of how you used to speak and then forgot...same thing happened to me too. And I'm sure a lot of Filipino-Americans went through the same thing.
haha...filipinos can speak many language. They can speak Chinese, Japanese, English, SPANISH, and Latin Fluently. I don't know if there are other languages that Filipinos can speak.
do you want 2 discover ur roots ? the olny thing i know is that u have spaniard influence in ur food celebrations and religion even though u refuse and refuse it u just have 2 see spaniard churches even ur history is written in spanish i think u r doing right to remind to ur roots
yeah...he has expressive eyes and a very cute smile...it will really melt u marikitna...but better watch your comments gurl...that kind of comment's not for him...
Hi there. I am not Filipino, but my uncle recently married a Filipina. I now can speak Tagalog fluently and I absolutely love The Philippines and Filipinos. Your videos are very interesting! tc ^^
Why do you look at the camera like that... its melting me... puh-leeaase! u better be not gay... coz i'd fuck u so fast u'll never know what's hit ya honey!
About speaking English to Filipinos... English is the Filipinos' second language. What is wrong about speaking English to Filipinos? Filipinos are the number one Asian English Teachers to Koreans, Chinese and even to Europeans. The call center industry in the Philippines is thriving because Filipinos speak English. Online English teaching companies are growing in the Philippines because Filipinos speak English and they can even teach the language to non-speaking English nationalities.
MEKENI FOODS \m/, dude you SHOULD LEARN HOW TO SPEAK TAGALOG, it's your BLOOD and it's nice that fil-am kids want to speak THE LANGUAGE OF THEIR ANCESTRY, but THERE IS THIS COUSIN OF MINE THAT SHE FORGOT HER OWN FILIPINA VALUES AND HER LANGUAGE, again, IT JUST BREAKS MY FILIPINO HEART
too bad you can't speak tagalog...but im glad to here that you wanna learn...i could teach you...hahah well...good luck you have nice videos..keep on makin...
Hmm... you know that Mexican is merely a nationality and not a race, right? Just like Americans. There are Mexicans of European descent, Middle Eastern descent, African descent, and Asian descent. Look up Guillermo del Toro, he's a famous Mexican director and he's obviously of European descent, Salma Hayek is of Middle Eastern descent, and Kalimba Marichal is of black African descent, and they're all Mex. Mexicans are diverse. It's common knowledge really, and FYI, I'm not even Latin.
As far as I'm aware of, most Mexicans are not Amerindians, MOST of them are of mixed Spanish and Amerindian descent, only 12% are of unmixed Amerindian extraction. So you, sir, are still wrong.
Going back to the very first comment, most Mexicans don't look Spaniards -and viceversa- and the guy in the screen may be good looking but, he doesn't look neither Mexican nor Spanish. He looks Philippine.
Full stop. I won't keep arguing with you since you're always spreading slanders about Spaniards and insulting them everywhere! Get a life and leave us alone!
How was I insulting Spaniards here? I never said that guy in the looked Spanish nor stereotypical Mexican. I agree that he looks Filipino, but that is irrelevant. I never said that most Mexicans look like Spaniards, I simply said that most of them possess a degree of Spanish ancestry. I don't see how that is bashing Spaniards? Oh well. Many Spanish tourists visit where I live (Boston), and the majority are polite people, I'm not bashing Spaniards, I was simply bashing Spanish fascists b4.
But you use to insult them in other Youtube videos. This is not the first time that I talk to you.
The point is that the first comment wasn't made by you. Muguelin pointed out that the guy in the screen looked either Mexican or Spanish and I simply underlined spontaneously that was not true. Ok? Bye. Don't follow me any longer.
Following you? How am I following you? Get over yourself. I watched this video because I am a viewer of Jokway's videos. How would it even possible to follow you? Like I'd even do that if it were, I wouldn't waste my time, thank you. Attitude is not attractive, Rico.
If u see a Filipina with a white guy, DO NOT STEREOTYPE. U gotta do research on how they met, where they met, under what circumstances, their family history, etc.
Do not simply assume filipinas are after white guys because it's their ticket of some sort. (This comment is not for jokway, it's for the comments i read in your vlog! GREAT VIDEO BY THE WAY.) :)
honestly yes it is..... here in the philippines, if you marry a white guy.... you struck gold.... they dont give a fuck what age the men are or what they look like, they just marry em and they are american.... and that is the goal, to be american
don't generalize. most of those you are referring to are email order brides or the extreme: pokpok.
when i was over there, whenvr we pass by a whyt guy, my friends would steer me away frm them, telling me that they are "scouting" for that "asian female", so btr stay away.
u gotta dstnguish those proprly brought up, gold-diggers, & those that genuinely fell in love to a white dude.
but anyways as a filipino myself, i can understand what you're saying. you're right about not stereotyping people, how they met aint my business. but when you see 60 year old white europeans with women only 30ish, thats tellin me somethin. i dont only see one couple like that in a blue moon, i see it every time i hit up the mall!
if women get hit on by white men, thats an opportunity they have....
its either they stick with the life they have in philippines (not the best) or they suck up to the white guy and stick with him because he can take her out of philippines and start a brand new life...
its the real world man....
people here will do anything to get a better life, even if it means suckin up to the guy who can get them out of philippines
Jokway I've been watching a few of your vids, I had to take one contention with this vid. You make it seem as though White guys are seeking out Asian women. Let's be even more radical, how about this Great White hope a lot of Asian women see in White guys? I've seen one too many Asian dramas and met one too many Asian women who were seeking a sort of "ticket to acceptance" by dating and/or marrying White guys. They seem to be idealized.
oh yah, the same thing happened to me. when i was about to go to school, my parents started to talk to me in english. before that, i knew tagalog, and 2 dialects so i knew alot. its sad cuz now i barely remember any of it now! i blame my parents...=b
My mom's kapampangan....but I don't know how to talk kapampangan... haha, but I do know how to speak enlgish(duh), tagalog and... chinese cuz I'm half chinese... :D
i never had to be in esl englihs was my main language then i went to the philippines for like 2 years and forgot english and learned tagalog the i wen back to california andforgot most tagalog and relearned english by myself without people teaching me just by listening
i am pissed! i wish they added spanish in our curriculum when i was in school. i speak tagalog, panggalatoc and enuff english to get by. but i would love to learn spanish, i would like to read el filibusterismo and noli me tangere in its original form. its my way of exploring a part of my heritage since i ve been told that my maternal grandfather is a mestizo. its cool to be MULTIlingual too.
That's cool you know kapangpangan...well at least the phrases & commands...and the phrase "Let's eat" in kapangpangan is similiar to ilocano...because in kapangpangan it's "mangan tana"? i think that's what you said...and in ilocano it's "mangan tayo"...interesting! ...lol i don't speak tagalog either well...maybe 1 year ago...what you can do is like buy tagalog movies or teleseryes and put them on subtitles and get used to hearing the conversations and words becuase now i unerstand tagalog. :)
congradulations! i'm still trying to become fluent, but i'm already multilingual...i wud really like to be multilingual in my language tho... T-T kinda ashamed when i think about it.
Hi! I'm Filipino also. I was born in the Philippines but came to America at a really young age of 1. I don't know how to speak Tagalog either or understand it...I just know basic phrases like "hindi ko alam" "ma baho" "bakit" and "ikaw"...hehe theirs probably a little more but thats all I can think of now. I can only speak and understand Ilocano because my parents speak it around the house. I wished they taught me tagalog.....
they are many chinese imigrant and indian imigrant who want to stay in the philippines they have no blood of filipino but they speak tagalog outside there house and inside there house they speak there own language..and infact kapampangan is very hard than tagalog..my parents are bisaya but i race in manila they never told me ilonggo i study by myselve then i know all the language of ilongo
i hope i don't offend anyone, but there are many sayings about kapampangans from non-kapampangan. i think they're slightly notorious and i've come across those people several times...

We have no authority to judge other than to condemn Phil for being one of the most corrupt Country's on earth.
barriocubalindo 2 years ago
I mean, you are not the most reliable person to do so. however, you wanted to do the job of explaining to that person about being filipino and asian as well. You can add one info to your stock knowledge, Filipinos, esp. OFW's learn fast any language they are exposed . A trait that no other people on earth does.
atcroccas 2 years ago
Actually, any person, if living in a foreign country and if being constantly exposed to a foreign language will learn it (the language) fast. Simply because the language is everywhere.
Stating that that is a specifically filipino trait is a false myth and racist.
GaolisVideoLog 2 years ago
do you speak Pilipino? (Filipino refers to the people and Pilipino, the language) and have you been to the Philippines or just making analyses and conjectures from books/materials in the library or from the internet? If so, then you are a reliable person to give insights about the country and its people.
atcroccas 2 years ago
uh..the correct name for the language is called tagalog, and calling it filipino is alright sometimes, but it's definetly not called "pilipino." you've probably heard filipinos themsleves call it "pilipino," but that is because of their accent. anyone who is of filipino descent and educated about their race is a reliable person to give insights of the country and its people, you don't neccessarily have to go to the philippines. this goes for all countries/races......

why does Filipinos always say they are Spanish instead of saying they are Filipinos, be proud!
not all Filipino has a Spanish descent. but i actually do, Im born and raised in philippines with a Chinese backround and Spanish ancestors and id say im a Filipino, cuz that is where i was raised.
hawgi888 2 years ago
Actually, hardly any Filipino has spanish blood in them. Most of us just have those spanish surnames because of the spanish Generalgouverneur Narciso Claveria, who passed a law in 1849 that all personnel in the Philippines must bear a spanish name taken from a list called the "Catálogo Alfabético de Apellidos". Now some of these names were even of Malay origin. But these were all to often insults, to degrate the population further. The chinese names there, also had special rules to be upheld.

Filipino is a term both used to mean the Philippine national language, and a Philippine national. Based on the dialect tagalog, the Filipino language is still evolving to include words from the other Philippine dialects as well as English and Spanish filipinised.

WRONG.
Look, I'm Filipino. I've been living, studying and working here in Manila Philippines. There are no Latinos and Pacific Islander Pinoys of Origin here. Filipinos are 110% Asian. Let me make this clear to you.

Mexican or Spanish? I didn't know that Mexicans look like Spaniards...
As far as I know, most Mexicans are native Americans and Spaniards are Europeans. Where is the ethnic connexion?
NorthwesternerGuy 3 years ago
Hmm... you know that Mexican is merely a nationality and not a race, right? Just like Americans. There are Mexicans of European descent, Middle Eastern descent, African descent, and Asian descent. Look up Guillermo del Toro, he's a famous Mexican director and he's obviously of European descent, Salma Hayek is of Middle Eastern descent, and Kalimba Marichal is of black African descent, and they're all Mex. Mexicans are diverse. It's common knowledge really, and FYI, I'm not even Latin.
Marllon 3 years ago
1º "Mexican" is a nationality and anthropology is a science.
2º Americans (US people?) are most of them (notice that I've written MOST) of European descent.
What is of common knowledge is know how to read. Do you can do that?
I said MOST Mexicans are native Americans and Spaniards are Europeans. Do I repeat it?
I'm not even a Latin either. I'm Spanish from Spain.
NorthwesternerGuy 3 years ago
As far as I'm aware of, most Mexicans are not Amerindians, MOST of them are of mixed Spanish and Amerindian descent, only 12% are of unmixed Amerindian extraction. So you, sir, are still wrong.
Marllon 3 years ago
Going back to the very first comment, most Mexicans don't look Spaniards -and viceversa- and the guy in the screen may be good looking but, he doesn't look neither Mexican nor Spanish. He looks Philippine.
Full stop. I won't keep arguing with you since you're always spreading slanders about Spaniards and insulting them everywhere! Get a life and leave us alone!
NorthwesternerGuy 3 years ago
How was I insulting Spaniards here? I never said that guy in the looked Spanish nor stereotypical Mexican. I agree that he looks Filipino, but that is irrelevant. I never said that most Mexicans look like Spaniards, I simply said that most of them possess a degree of Spanish ancestry. I don't see how that is bashing Spaniards? Oh well. Many Spanish tourists visit where I live (Boston), and the majority are polite people, I'm not bashing Spaniards, I was simply bashing Spanish fascists b4.
Marllon 3 years ago
But you use to insult them in other Youtube videos. This is not the first time that I talk to you.
The point is that the first comment wasn't made by you. Muguelin pointed out that the guy in the screen looked either Mexican or Spanish and I simply underlined spontaneously that was not true. Ok? Bye. Don't follow me any longer.
NorthwesternerGuy 3 years ago

GREAT VIDEO BY THE WAY.) :)
ryebosco 3 years ago
honestly yes it is..... here in the philippines, if you marry a white guy.... you struck gold.... they dont give a fuck what age the men are or what they look like, they just marry em and they are american.... and that is the goal, to be american
ThugalogPlaya 3 years ago
don't generalize. most of those you are referring to are email order brides or the extreme: pokpok.
when i was over there, whenvr we pass by a whyt guy, my friends would steer me away frm them, telling me that they are "scouting" for that "asian female", so btr stay away.
u gotta dstnguish those proprly brought up, gold-diggers, & those that genuinely fell in love to a white dude.

hey man i meant no disrespect
but anyways as a filipino myself, i can understand what you're saying. you're right about not stereotyping people, how they met aint my business. but when you see 60 year old white europeans with women only 30ish, thats tellin me somethin. i dont only see one couple like that in a blue moon, i see it every time i hit up the mall!
ThugalogPlaya 3 years ago
if women get hit on by white men, thats an opportunity they have....
its either they stick with the life they have in philippines (not the best) or they suck up to the white guy and stick with him because he can take her out of philippines and start a brand new life...
its the real world man....
people here will do anything to get a better life, even if it means suckin up to the guy who can get them out of philippines
