uh....i do believe it was hernand cortez who was from "spain" (ferdinand and isabella finally united the region into one kingdom by that time) that specifically targeted tenochtitlan in mexico. of course, colonists came from all over europe to the americas but the spanish were the first to get to mexico, specifically.

@takakuroichi No its based off of the Mayans. Xibalba is the Mayan underworld you can see this off of the history channel. Yes he defeated the Aztecs with the help of an Indian slave woman whose child he fathered, and since he didn't conquer El Dorado in this movie it can't be the Aztecs. :)
