As Americans, I'm not sure how surprised or offended we should be by these revelations. The memos being authored in August and the CIA behavior going back to the previous April really doesn't mean anything. A simple verbal say-so from the White House would be sufficient for a patriotic CIA torturer to do his work. As a country we've ceded so much power to the executive branch we really shouldn't be too upset to find a villain in the White House. Bush-Cheney will never be held to account .

Just read the first memo actually. It's no where near and seedy and conspiratorial as I was expecting.
The techniques done as described in the memo are somewhat cautious not to inflict anything really other than fear and sense of no control.
Problem is of course you can garantee that often it wasn't adhered to by the letter.
