RUSSIAN CARTOONS ARE FAR BETTER THAN AMERICAN CARTOONS. THOSE RUSSIAN CARTOONS, ESPECIALLY PRODUCED DURING THE U.S.S.R ERA, WERE VERY GREAT, EDUCATIONAL AND INGENIOUS. US CARTOONS ARE RATHER
Yes, Snow Queen was released in the US in 1959, but in a version that was more respectful to the original(I think), than the stateside "Horse" release, which was years later, more obscure, and shoehorned in 1980s stlye songs that didn't synch with the lip movements of the characters.
@antoniod Really? I thought it was Snow Queen. This one, I've watched it on Mikhail Baryshnikov's Stories from My Childhood. The script of this movie seems to be lifted directly from the poem, word by word.
It's so interesting t listen to the original. :) I've only every heard the German version which I just love so much! I'm amazed how close they kept to the original!
I'm watching this on VHS right now! :D Watched it all the time when I was little and still enjoy singing along to the songs. I love the English version though! I never heard the other...
I loved this when I was young - though it was an english version. I saw it so many times I don't even need the words anymore. Still, I miss the songs.
Gorgeous animation. This used to be on telly every Christmas when I was little, with either English subtitles or a narration/overdubbing, but you could still hear the original Russian recording underneath, I think - I remember my Gran referring to it as "that little softly-spoken horse"! Much as I love some of the Pixar films, they sure don't make 'em like this any more.
Sorry, don't mean to be spamming all the uploads of the 1975 version, but if anyone's interested, you can watch the original 1947 version here. The animation looks really detailed there.

The 1975 version was redone because the original version was in a bad state and they didn't have the technology at the time to restore it.
Just thought I'd be doing the good deed of letting people know.
ohhhhh I love this stories!!! I saw this stories when I was a kid and I love the way that they recreated the moves of the body, very good drawings, I miss that kind of animation , everything now is made it by computers... How talented people made this beautiful animation!!!!!! thank you!
Love! Love! Love! Saw this as a kid and haven't seen it since. Glad 2 see this here 2 confirm I wasn't just making having seen this as a kid up. Such a great movie. Has anyone found the English version?
I'm so glad I watched this as a kid and it stuck with me. I finally found an old VHS of it on Amazon and treasure it. No one gets to borrow it hah. l;)
why arent movies today anything like this? this is the very definition of a animated classic. made in the 1940s, waaaay before fancy graphics were used. everything was done by hand! amazing! i loved this movie as a kid and i still love it! i just wish i had my VHS copy. not sure how much longer itll last though :/ its a TV recorded copy. does anyone know where i can find the 1977 english dub online?
I still have the movie in English but it's in VHS. If only there was a way to transfer it to the computer. But I'm glad to see the Russian version, because they're voices match the characters mouths better. The dubbed one is so funny to watch.
Does anyone know what the English version of this is called? I think it's MY MAGIC PONY or something. Anyway, anyone know if it's on youtube, or somewhere else?
I can't understand why you people like the english dub. It's disgusting. Why couldn't they just make subtitles? The horse's name...Zip...UUUUGH (stabs) I like how they said the King crawled out of the boiling oil 'humbler and wiser'....more like he uh, died? O_o wtf
Always stick to the original. Thank you for posting the Russian <3
GAH I love this movie from my childhood I have this movie on lazer disc but sadly our lazer disc player broke and so I can't watch this, but maybe one day I'll buy it for like dvd if they make it for it or even vhs would make me happy to have. *sighs*
Holy moly, I used to have this movie on video, but it was lost after we moved, I *finally* discovered the film's name (yay wikipedia!) and it's such a thrill to be able to watch it again. <3
"КОНЕК-ГОРБУНОК" is the Russian title. It was one of my favorite books when I was a child. Written by P. Ershov. This particular film was made in 1947 and there was another version made in 1975, both directed by Ivan Ivanov-Vano.
This older version is, in my opinion, the better of the two. Thank you for the upload nortmer.
It was one of my childhood favorites too. I used to sit and beg my parents to read it to me all the time. I wouldn't want to hear anything else. Except maybe "The Scarlet Flower."
Now I Fell like i'm back from school, turning on the VCR, putting my favorite VHS movie (which i can't seem to find now)... but mine was dubbed in arabic... ... WOW and i wondered as a child why the arabic dubbers spoke so roughly as if they were fighting... if i only knew it was originally russian :D

This came out in a BAD American version with added pop-style songs that didn't fit the action.
