• I love this film and have been looking for a copy on DVD for ages. Anyone know where I can get one that plays in the UK?

  • RUSSIAN CARTOONS ARE FAR BETTER THAN AMERICAN CARTOONS. THOSE RUSSIAN CARTOONS, ESPECIALLY PRODUCED DURING THE U.S.S.R ERA, WERE VERY GREAT, EDUCATIONAL AND INGENIOUS. US CARTOONS ARE RATHER

    INTENDED FOR SPOILING KIDS!

  • Yes, Snow Queen was released in the US in 1959, but in a version that was more respectful to the original(I think), than the stateside "Horse" release, which was years later, more obscure, and shoehorned in 1980s stlye songs that didn't synch with the lip movements of the characters.

  • This came out in a BAD American version with added pop-style songs that didn't fit the action.

  • @antoniod Really? I thought it was Snow Queen. This one, I've watched it on Mikhail Baryshnikov's Stories from My Childhood. The script of this movie seems to be lifted directly from the poem, word by word.

  • any1 knws where I can find the english version or sum1 who can upload this in English 4 me...thx a lot :)

  • It's so interesting t listen to the original. :) I've only every heard the German version which I just love so much! I'm amazed how close they kept to the original!

  • I'm watching this on VHS right now! :D Watched it all the time when I was little and still enjoy singing along to the songs. I love the English version though! I never heard the other...

  • I loved this when I was young - though it was an english version. I saw it so many times I don't even need the words anymore. Still, I miss the songs.

  • Gorgeous animation. This used to be on telly every Christmas when I was little, with either English subtitles or a narration/overdubbing, but you could still hear the original Russian recording underneath, I think - I remember my Gran referring to it as "that little softly-spoken horse"! Much as I love some of the Pixar films, they sure don't make 'em like this any more.

  • i like it so much

  • Sorry, don't mean to be spamming all the uploads of the 1975 version, but if anyone's interested, you can watch the original 1947 version here. The animation looks really detailed there.

    watch?v=rEIrzVXJh4w

The 1975 version was redone because the original version was in a bad state and they didn't have the technology at the time to restore it.

Just thought I'd be doing the good deed of letting people know.

  • @TheOneartist yeah link's dead. Anyway I found this

You can also watch the greater quality of 1975 version here

  • I'm so glad I watched this as a kid and it stuck with me. I finally found an old VHS of it on Amazon and treasure it. No one gets to borrow it hah. l;)

  • why arent movies today anything like this? this is the very definition of a animated classic. made in the 1940s, waaaay before fancy graphics were used. everything was done by hand! amazing! i loved this movie as a kid and i still love it! i just wish i had my VHS copy. not sure how much longer itll last though :/ its a TV recorded copy. does anyone know where i can find the 1977 english dub online?

  • i have been searching for this movie for YEARS!

  • Me too! This is a masterpiece...

  • I still have the movie in English but it's in VHS. If only there was a way to transfer it to the computer. But I'm glad to see the Russian version, because they're voices match the characters mouths better. The dubbed one is so funny to watch.

  • Does anyone know what the English version of this is called? I think it's MY MAGIC PONY or something. Anyway, anyone know if it's on youtube, or somewhere else?

  • The Magic Pony

  • the magic pony :D

    not on youtube

  • I have only russian variation of this animation

  • Is this by soyuzmultfilm? I can barely read russian, but the first few words in the film nearly spell out it's name. Can someone please confirm?

  • yes

  • i love this move but i only seen it in english dobed. i would like to see it in the dobed one if i could cuz i cant remember whot is being sede.

  • I can't understand why you people like the english dub. It's disgusting. Why couldn't they just make subtitles? The horse's name...Zip...UUUUGH (stabs) I like how they said the King crawled out of the boiling oil 'humbler and wiser'....more like he uh, died? O_o wtf

Always stick to the original. Thank you for posting the Russian <3

  • for those of us who do not speak russian, you can search for "The Humpbacked Horse" on Wikipedia which has an extensive plot description.

  • Без перевода.

  • does anyone know where you can buy this in the english version - want my kids to see it.

  • the director re-did the film in 1975, in 1977 it was recut and dubbed into english for a US release.

  • I always loved Zip's english voice. Not a fan of his/her original. =/ (I believe it was female in the english dub)

  • I love you I love you I LOVE you for posting this!!! X_X My all time favorite film as a child!

  • I remeber the norwegian bubbed version from when i was young! it was so awsome, i saw the episode when he was with the sea or something and a whale

  • Thanks for posting! This was my favorite cartoon when I was a kid! This brings back so many memories! Now I have to find it at my parents house!

  • GAH I love this movie from my childhood I have this movie on lazer disc but sadly our lazer disc player broke and so I can't watch this, but maybe one day I'll buy it for like dvd if they make it for it or even vhs would make me happy to have. *sighs*

  • I remember watching the English dubb version when I was a little kid. I LOVE this movie! Hopefully it'll be released on DVD someday.

  • It is, but they changed the dubbing. It's horrid now!

  • the english dub is of the 1975 version which has much simpler animation

  • pleasepleasepleaseplease subtitled version pleaaaase!!!!

a kid's memory it is... truly unique style...

  • oh my god i used to love this movie. i think i still have it on vhs! MUST REWATCH!

  • Holy moly, I used to have this movie on video, but it was lost after we moved, I *finally* discovered the film's name (yay wikipedia!) and it's such a thrill to be able to watch it again. <3

  • "КОНЕК-ГОРБУНОК" is the Russian title. It was one of my favorite books when I was a child. Written by P. Ershov. This particular film was made in 1947 and there was another version made in 1975, both directed by Ivan Ivanov-Vano.

This older version is, in my opinion, the better of the two. Thank you for the upload nortmer.

  • Actually this could be the 1975 version. It has been so long since I have seen either. Still a great piece of animation.

  • It was one of my childhood favorites too. I used to sit and beg my parents to read it to me all the time. I wouldn't want to hear anything else. Except maybe "The Scarlet Flower."

  • But in 1975 version it's great Gribov's voice! Just listen to his: "Я велю тебя пытать. На ку-соч-ки разрывать!"

  • He sounds like a girl in this version. xD

  • lol wut

  • lol wut, at first, then its nice seeing something else from the mainstream

  • omg i love you. but do you have this in english?

  • AMAZING! Thank you so much for this! I loved this story when I was little! :) ♥

  • Now I Fell like i'm back from school, turning on the VCR, putting my favorite VHS movie (which i can't seem to find now)... but mine was dubbed in arabic... ... WOW and i wondered as a child why the arabic dubbers spoke so roughly as if they were fighting... if i only knew it was originally russian :D

  • I watched this film a million times when I was a child .. naturally I knew all the lines ..the music is wonderful ... for those interested there is a wikipedia entry (apparently original, i.e shown here, was made in 1947???). Can't find it to buy though .. in any language!! Any ideas?
