  • how is this possible? to me really it seemed that the booster was reallly long. and i thought that if you hit the blocks that are flying down anywhere you get hit.. dang this is unbelievable.. i wouldn't be surprised if this was Pixel himself XD

  • @SupahMarluxia This is possible. I can do some of it (Hell, I can beat the time on the first room, though rarely). It's just INSANELY HARD to do it all at once with no mistakes. This run is truly beautiful.

  • This run, 2'17"4, is the fastest time listed on the cavestory website.

I wish the video had sound. oh well.

  • dec 4 2005!

  • wow Flawless!!! *subbed*

  • I'm not pretty sure... but in the version I played for PC, you can't get to hell if you keep the gun he is using (the one the little man gives you when you bring him back to his house), because is the gun Curly uses... but since is in another lenguague, I'm not sure, neither for the wii version =/

  • @osoxyagami Im sorry but I gotta call wrong here, cause I played an unhacked english version and was able to bring the gun... and by the way its called the nemesis. Not to insult you or anything...

  • @Ultrasyther1 No worries, it is actually since long I played it, and I think I recall myself bringing it down to hell and Curly using instead the sword, but meh! I think I must play it once more

  • HOLY SHIT.

    That is damn near perfect.

  • I'm always sad to see speed runs without synchronized sound, it makes the possibilities of it being tool assisted very much more possible. While it's more then impressive, it could have been slowed down to single frame rates, making it very easy to time and dodge everything, taking an hour to play this 2 minute 17 second run.

It's still entertaining, as long as I suspend my disbelief.

  • @AoACorpus11 You're a fairly sad individual...

  • First of all, this is amazing.

How about asking him to do it with HAX?

    But!

The Life Capsule may have tooken up .3 seconds.

  • At 1:06 how did he shoot rockets through the wall?

  • Who knew God played Cave Story?

  • Either he did this himself or he used some sort of a machine to convert my dreams into a video

  • I give up. I thought I was good at this game, but it was just proven that it was only dumb luck that got me through. I bow to thee, O Master of Caves.

  • How do you output this much damage? Super fast key smashing?

  • from 2:03 forward it made me say JESUS CHRIST!!!

  • lolz theres a troll

  • Well, it ain't flawless, but it's sure as hell a SuperPlay...and yeah that crap's hard on a keyboard.

  • Well i just learned some Ballos glitches :P

And that firing speed is actually similar to mine, if he told me he wasn't using assistance, to my face, i would believe him.

  • Wow... that IS amazing. Although, the long corridor with the angels (pfft, I know that's not what they're called, I'm just being lazy) has left me wondering on some occasions how he got through without taking any damage -- I take it that the blocks don't hurt anymore once they hit the ground? (I'm talking about 0:30 here.)

  • Only the bottoms of the blocks hurt you. You can fly through the top halves of them without taking any damage.

  • Well, you can do it every once in 20 tries I guess.

  • no, you can fly through them after they've hit the ground.

  • what level is that?

  • what does TAS stand for

  • Tool Assisted Speedrun.

  • no sound??? oO

  • so the rockets actually DO SOMETHING?

    wow

  • My brain melted from the sheer amazement and epicness as I watched this video, and exploded somewhere during the Ballos fight. You, sir, are a hero in my eyes. Bravo.

  • Seems pretty simple. If it's hacked, it's not a good hack, as I've done things like this, and seen others do similar things. It's good, to be sure, but not frame-by-frame edit good.

  • I think it's TAS material too. The jetpack under the low ceiling at 1:41 is like impossible. The landing placement and attack placement (0:46 OMG) is perfect. And it wouldn't surprise me if he used a turbo controller on Ballos and Heavy Press. Don't get me wrong though, Even for a TAS it's damn good. Only adjustment I could make would be LVling up at 1:08. You can kill heavy press quicker and drop a second (w/ point getting time) Favorite part 1:33. what I wanna know is what TAS program he used.

  • If this was a TAS it would have been much worse. I'm sure this guy did it by skill. An AWESOME skill. (exactly what alkafrazin said)

Actually someone should do a TAS. It would look awesome.

  • As a seasoned Hell runner, I have to say that most if not all of this is possible. Specifically:

1:41 - I do it almost every time

    0:46 - Nah, it's done.

The crazy thing is his firing speed. He does away with the heavy press in seconds, and he beats form 1 Ballos before the melees a second time. Anything can be done, but if you're looking for proof of assistance, note how even the Nemesis shots are at 2:01. The other thing that he's crazy at is firing rapidly while boosting, like at 1:01.

  • 0:46 I guess it's doable but man, it looks like a pain to learn. The nem/snake based runs are completely different from the spur runs. I didn't think that they were possible until I saw this.

I still think it's TAS, but I base that mainly on the firing rate. Even if its a sloppy run, I wouldn't totally discount it since I don't know what kind of "assistance" you can get. It might just be limited to slow down and turbo for all I care. I'm still interested in seeing the TAS programs btw

  • He used a turbo controller I believe but other than that, that's it.

  • Nah, it's doable, and rather easily I might add. You can watch it from my video. Sure, it looks kinda difficult but after a couple of tries you should be able to pull it off.

  • I must say, I'm a hell runner too, and the firing speed is what I suspect too, but it's not impossible since I can do the button smashing too on a keyboard. I'm not quite as fast as he, but not far from it.

  • Oh, I just realized you already commented on the video :D

  • i say this is hacked. i dont know anyone who can do what he does at Heavy Press by hand, and we all have 3 min times

  • OMG, the fastest I've ever saw (but not the best, 3HP & Polar Star Hellrun rox...). Very nice!

  • uhmm i think this version is old

in the new version if he hits the SIDES of the rocks, he loses hp

  • nope, they have some kind of "damage area", which is the lower half of the rocks

  • oh, i see...

well it never works for me so im just fukd

  • hehe =P

  • i just found something out... the "damage area" is only if the rocks have already hot the gorund once. i hope you... know what i mean. lol.

  • yeah i... know what mean lmao

i actually figured this like 1 hour ago but thx anyway

  • I stoped playing cave story, my record is 3´50 XD i think i´ll try it later again (still i have the .exe program to install again :D). He finally killed the boss with the robo girl... i forget already the names T_T

  • LOL. Flawless except he used the heal :P

    Still, fucking ridiculous speed.

  • the "flawless" doesnt mean the damage. it more means he didnt get a flaw in time. so he basically made everything were you can get faster through sthg right. so at all it isnt the damage flawless but the time flawless..

  • ah. mkay :)

  • I just came over 9000 buckets. words alone cannot describe it, this is too beautiful for mortal eyes.

  • how to you do that boost?

havent been able to figure it out

  • u need to get the booster first, ironically you get it from professor booster

  • When professor booster first falls down in the labyrinth skip him, later on you get the Booster V2.0 and its that booster, lets you go sideways and stuff.

  • wheres the sound?

  • not exactly a flawless run

  • Its a speedrun, and this is currently the fastest anybody has done.

  • yeah I know that, I'm just saying that it isn't completely flawless because the person who posted this vid said it was.

  • Ok fair point, I admit if you pushed it you could cut about 2-3 seconds if no mistakes were made, but I doubt anybody is going to refine the method to that level.

  • I bet someone will, eventually. Anyone remember Pikmin in 9 days?

  • Nope, (searches for Pikmin in 9 days)

  • ahh mines 4:07 xD i fail D:

that is some speed you got there xD

  • 3'47 played it for 4 months or so :P

  • at 1:07, how does he shoot through the wall like that? I can't get that to happen!

  • u missle w/ lev 3 and the dubble blockade u need lev 1-2 nemisis

snake shoots thru walls at beginning

  • well, I can't get the level three missle one to work... oh well, I must be doing something wrong, I'll figure it out.

  • @v4extreme you need the snake

  • @MarthMaster59K umm... no... that's definitely the missle launcher xD

but anyway I stopped doing speed runs like 6+ months ago so whatevs.

  • My best time is 3:05"00 with Spur

  • ...holy shit.

  • Giant Face Ballos is DOWN in... two seconds? Holy fucking balls man.

  • What the hell are you talking about? This guy didn't die throughout the entire level. Sure he was hit a few times, but its next to impossible to dodge all the attacks. Let's see you do better. >.>

  • @Darkstar8965 Someone beat the level with minimum health, meaning being hit by anything kills you. Of course, that run was a loooot slower than this one.

  • I believe the title is misleading; the point is speed. This is so far as we know the fastest Hell run time ever. He wastes little to no time.

  • @lygerzero0zero Not exactly true, there's plenty of people out there who have done much better. There should still be a video here on youtube of a fella who beat Hell in under 2:30, though granted that was with a turbo controller (and the snake weapon). This is one of the best I've seen though without a turbo controller. It even beat my 2:52 lol.

  • @NPsnipes ... this video IS of him beating hell in under 2:30. Cutscenes don't count towards time. You look at the counter in the corner: 2'17"4.

  • hey my cave story has the english text overlapping each other so i cant read. anyone know how to fix that?

  • what are you hav for a screen recorder

  • the sacred ground ^^

  • where can i unlock it? i only finish the game and then the game stops.. how can i go to this lvl? is this an extra patch?

  • After you've defeated undead core and escaping the island, go to the prefab building ;)

  • You have to save Curly and not get the Boosters until the plantation.

  • Cool... My record is 7 minutes

  • my is 2:56"6

  • NO SONUD FFS

  • i using trainer to make infinite rockets and killing ballos

  • once the blocks hit the ground u can go through them u know

  • complete carnage

  • this is nice and cool and I wanna believe it, but.. there are things that make it look fake, among others the boulders don't damage him when he flies through them, and for me they damage me even if I just slightly bruise them..

  • About the boulders - notice how they bounce when they hit the ground? After they bounce, the top can't hurt you, which means you can fly through it.

  • Dunno why, but not for me, I thought it was that at first too, but they still hurt me, every single pixel of them at any time.. o_O

  • @Shilag Lol, I was stupid back then. :P

And wrong, I know now that the top of the rocks can't hurt you once they bounce.. :P

I'm currently improving my time, playing on the PSP.

My record so far is 2'49"0, and I think I might start recording every run soon.

  • eh... no sound?

  • i don't know but i think on many scenes it looks like a fake... but i can't believe that this is one...

  • so what character do you get on the load screen for an under 3 minute run?

  • sue

  • So Heavypress DOESN'T crush you! Everyone I've seen has gotten out of the way, and every guide I've looked at said to get out of the way

  • it does, but for the moment that it just hits the ground, its harmless, and you can instantly go through the ground. I don't reccomend doint it unless you know what you're doing.

  • Actually you get invincibility frames from being hit, so he doesn't die when HP falls. Notice he jumps into the Bute on purpose?

  • hey guys what is your best speedrun mine is 3,14,4 LOL

  • 2:33'6 :) can be seen @ my profile.

  • wow ya good :D

  • too bad that was 2:17'4

but still your time is very good :-)

  • 3,05,0 dvouvarlatčnatče

  • hohoho the minimal items speedrun is a FLAWFULL it is enough to look at the first room and you can find a lot of mistakes

  • The point of this run is only getting the fastest time possible, so it is pretty much flawless in the category of getting the fastest time.

  • Darknessthecurse should see this! He's been struggling with this level for AGES! XD

  • I don't think the booster has that much juice, at least it doesn't for me-.-

  • Hey 'rhymeswithgabriel', you're absolutely right. Though there are places where he accidentally takes damage.

Also, for anyone who didn't notice, he purposely takes damage at 0:57, 1:04, 1:30, 2:27, 2:38

  • how do you get the flame thrower

  • You mean the "Nemesis"? Certain things must be done in plantation+mimiga village(graveyard)+outer wall.

...to achieve it you probably need booster 2.0 or machine gun in outer wall...

  • no the snake its like a flame thrower

  • I don't know why, out of all the comments on this video you asked ME... but if you want the thing that shoots through walls then you keep the Polar Star and trade it in to the shopkeeper (I think).

  • i dare you to level it up >_> in the end, i return it (felt the buyers remorse)

  • wow this person didn't even bother to get the fireball, bubbler/blade (the little guy will trade you for any i think, dunno about fireball though)...

    awesome

  • He had those except the bubbler. You trade foreball and polar star for snake and the blade for the nemesis.

  • Yeah, I forgot that the snake needs fireball. But I think that if you don't pick up the blade but you do get the bubbler you can trade the bubbler for the nemesis instead. Don't waste your time finding out if that is right though - the blade is so much better than the bubbler XD

  • You must get the blade to leave the storehouse it the Sand Zone ;D and yes, the almighty blade even can't be compared to the bubbler.

  • You have to pick up the blade, and there's no code whatsoever for trading the bubbler for the Nemesis.

  • He takes damage to go straight thru the spike!!! Awsome

  • It's not exactly "flawless" because he or she was taking damage. But that was awesome anyway!

  • When the objective is a fast run, as it always is in a speed run, it is a very common technique to damage yourself for invulnerability frames. If you are looking for a no-damage speedruns with such times then you will not likely find it.

  • damage was done purposefully. = flawless

  • Not all of it. During 1.17 - 1.21 he takes 10hp damage, and i don't see any reason why he would take damage there. Still i think this is pretty much flawless because there is no screw ups.

  • Well "crocz", there is a box at the top of the map that has a missile expansion in it. I'm guessing he/she took the damage to get it and run back as fast as they could.

  • Yes he took there 10 damage, but why? There is no reason to take damage there; HP lowers, it's slower, and the nemesis was already on Lvl 1. Therefore i declare that it wasn't taken purposely.

  • Holy crap... you can't beat the japs XD

  • All i can say i 'Bravo'! Currently my best time is 3.46.4, but after sawing this i think i could improve a LOT.

  • wow, damaging yourself to get under the statue was awesome!

  • how did he get 55 life

i was only able to max out to 50

  • There's an upgrade inside that last level.

  • lurk moar

  • wtf, how is it that he can pass through bricks without getting any damage? I have ver 1.0.0.6 and even after the bricks bounce off the floor and I touch them I get hurt.

  • The top part of the blocks cannot hurt you.

  • Awsome. Still have to find Hell myself.... :(

  • So does he use a turbo controller? Is there a way to just set up one of the keyboard buttons as turbo?

  • Ok, the comments about 'earlier versions' are incorrect. The most current version on Pixel's (the creator's) website is 1.0.0.6. In this version you can safely pass through blocks for a few frames onces they 'bounce' off the floor.

The Lv.3 missiles can also pass through some walls if you are close to them (I don't recall if you have to be boosting into them too), as can the shots from the Lv1 Nemesis.

Personal best, following this strategy, is 2'56"9

  • There's been a new update to 1.0.0.7 Just bugfixes to make it easier to translate, though.

  • Link? Its not on AGTPs site, Pixel's site, the Doukutsu LJ, the Miraigamer site, etc.

  • Under 6 min: Curley, Running Hell

Under 5 min: Toroko, Toroko's Theme

    Under 4 min: King, White

    Under 3 min: Sue, Safety

Just for those wondering what happens at the end of running hell quick enough, the title screen changes to the above comments.

  • wen u go to hell does sue keep runnin and get off da island wit kazuma or does she fail and die?and wat about da scientists, sue's mom and itoh?

  • The island doesn´t fall.

  • oh ok thank you

  • Okay I get most of this but I'm STILL trying to figure out how they shoot the missiles through one of the doors, as well I can't seem to bust the last two doors at the sametime like that.

  • I think he used snake

  • nvm, I just noticed what you meant

  • he used the Nemesis. it goes through the first door and damages the second as well.

  • Just a reminder to everyone that I got this from the Doukutsu Uploader, and that this isn't me playing.

  • He's only able to do this because in the B2 level, he's playing an earlier version of the game that ignores damage from falling rocks at certain points. In 1.5, you get hurt no matter what part of the rock you touch. He would have run out of life.

Still damned good though. I just beat it this morning and it was incredibly difficult (3'25'2)

  • Take another look at B2. He avoids all the rocks period. It's not that the rocks don't do damage to him, it's that they do not touch him.

  • wow that's awesome (though Spur IMO is better than Nemesis)

  • nemesis pwns spur. the spur is good, but it takes waaaay to long to charge up. i can do like 120 damage with the snake in the time it takes the spur to charge up.

  • This is a great vid, I've been using it a few times to make my runs even faster. So far the best I can get is 2'49''0 but either way BRILLIANT!

  • That is one mind-blowingly awesome Hell run.

  • Wow, I can't even finish it in 10 minutes.

  • I think ive got it in 7:56'4 lol

  • I can't even finish it PERIOD.

  • Practice. I thought the same.

  • my best time is 3'40

  • Don't 4get he used health pot.

  • How could I even save it? I was scared into using it at that Undead Core fight.

  • I never said this was me. Check my profile.

  • Ah, it should also be mentioned a Turbo Controller is being used.

  • I always hated the part with falling bricks...

  • that room breaks my soul with 3hp

  • curses, beat my by 38 seconds. you get a 5 star

  • I think the more better term is GENIUS.

  • Given the fact that the video is a SPEEDrun, it is pretty flawless.

  • The lv3 missiles explosion goes quite a bit through the walls.

  • Flawles? Pff. S/He takes lots of damage.

  • Actually, that might've been on purpose, to level down the Nemesis (it gets weaker as it levels up.)
