  • Was Crispin trying to be funny or is he drugged out of his mind? The video quality is so bad I can't see his face to see if he is serious or not.

  • Was this filmed with a potato ?

  • How much Crispin Glover did that acid take???

  • how much acid did he take?

  • Bahaha this is for Rubin and Ed. But the movie didn't come out until '91. But he was in character the entire time.

  • Crispin Glover is one of the most talented actors I've ever seen. There is a chance he was acting here... but if not, who cares. He's only human. Hell, if I was on a stage infront of a million people, i'd be shaky too. Anyway, Crispin is still amazing either way. :)

  • @XChelseyEasleyX

He was doing a character here, sweetie..;)...

  • @renc2000

Yeah, I realized that after I saw the movie Rubin and Ed.. Still, wish Letterman wasn't such a dick. haha

  • @XChelseyEasleyX lol...Chels- I think Letterman was doing an act too...lol..(he was in on the joke)....

  • @renc2000

You think so? Hmmm, well I still don't like him. haha

    But I love Crispin. <3

  • @XChelseyEasleyX Crispin is cool...And yeah, Letterman is an idiot...

  • @dannylawren yeah the beer's so warm even.

  • Wouuduuu jibbro jabbro ganga danga, so fucking funny Glover. Actually, no...you are fucking boring. Infact, so boring that a rusty noisemaking truck gives oneself more pleasure in fun.

  • yea what the heck is that in the case looks like..rocks?? i dunno

  • ahead of his time he was doing Jim Carrey before anyone knew it was cool

  • I read on the internet that Crispin said he did this because he was afraid of publicity and thought he needed to be interesting. He said it was fun at first and then it became more work than anything so he decided not to do it anymore. He said he was a child then now he's an adult.

  • Is this Serious or a joke?

  • @Jonathank2008 It's serious.

  • Whoa! Letterman has hair!!

  • Bizarre, funny, sad?? None of the above. Genius. He's a multi-faceted artist. He's more than George McFly. That was his point. But the hollywood machine tells us what to think and they wanted people to believe that he's nothing more than a neurotic nerd. If you watch other interviews, you realize that this was all planned out and had nothing to do with drugs. He is an intelligent and very well-spoken man.

  • What's in the case?

  • Brilliant.

  • best actor ever? I think so. holy fuck.

  • @MrActor123456789 look, all I know is you are an ass hole, and crispin is not a disgrace- he fitsthe perspective of an artist. plus, he is not normal. maybe a little less than insane- and beingME, I understand his feelings unlike you, prick :)

  • ANND, FUCK YOU REDSCOOTER81. FUCK YOU. YOU SHOULD GO CRAWL INTO YOUR REALITIES YOU FOOOOOL

    DOOOOOM TO YOU

    DOOM

  • god what the fuck is everyones problem on that show? poor crispin...fuck people. only the people that are not normal would understand. so fuck you people.

  • @allthafavorites What do you mean poor Crispin? Why do self important people like him have to disgrace the name "artist" with bullshit like this? Couldn't he have just done the interview like a normal fucking person and gave Letterman a break? Brando is the greatest actor who ever lived and he never had to do weird shit like this to be appreciated or to validate himself or make himself appear interesting. It's people like Crispin that make people believe that all artists are weird.

  • Joaquin Phoenix ain't got nothin on this guy hes the original.

  • Crispin's candid interview on YT here, from gosh knows when, he says it or spins it like it was someone who he know looks like him, and more to the point...sounds like him, as that looks like a whig and Crispin doesn't need glasses, there's enough to keep you guessing, even now, but I would say it's not REALLY him

  • If that was just acting right there then he has me fooled. He seemed perty LoSseD to me. But I never saw Ruben and Ed so...

  • Letterman is awesome, and Crispin Glover was acting like someone about to go on a shooting spree--an insider's wink from Glover to Letterman would have been helpful to keeping the performance going. Also, to the person who says Letterman's an a** who makes his guests (the deserving ones) feel uncomfortable, I'd say that's way better than the sickening ass-kissing Leno performs on his guests every night.

  • Rubin and Ed is such a good movie. Really a shame that it isn't even 1% as well known as this little clip is.

  • if youre going to show it you need to show it all. letterman comes back from the break with some good jokes.

  • @nameisrobertpaulsen His diseased eyeball collection. No joke; it was a case of replicas of diseased eyeballs.

  • Glover was IN CHARACTER as Rubin from the movie Rubin and Ed which was unreleased at the time and Letterman had no idea what he was doing.

  • its obvious hes acting...hes a great actor...cant believe ppl really believe he has lost it or on a real acid trip!

  • seems a bit silly..u go on these shows to push whatever your doing..

    blokes has issues

  • I love Crispin.

  • Letterman is a fucking jerk. He has no problem making his guests feel really uncomfortable, but when it happens to him he runs away like a little wimp.

  • @loonmaniac You only got so much time to say what works best for the segments, and Letterman tries to keep EVERYTHING said funny, his mind is likely spinning a joke whenever possible, but he's given credible interviews, His old NBC version was better then lately at CBS. Much better home-grown comedic feel

  • What do the girls say around 1:27?

  • @wearethearchers "Nice shoes!"

  • @RedMist85 Thank you! I kept clicking that part over and over, I don't know how I never caught that xD

  • The version below doesn't have an annoying ad throughout it.

  • wow.. what an arm, crispin.....

  • Crispin Glover is a frickin' genius!

  • David Letterman is a CONTROL FREAK. I can't stand him. If you seen his first show, you seen them all. Letterman gets pissed when he can't control Glover. Anyone who watches Letterman is a mindless drone.

  • you should check out Billy idol giving letterman a run for his money .

  • This is hilarious!!! Dave's discomfort at 3:20 and onwards is funny, he's trying not to look at Crispin and notably the crowd round on him for criticising someone doing something different on a late night talk show!!!

  • Shiiiit he's built! Look at those arms! *swoon*

  • that ain't crispin glover, it's ruben far!

  • When he did this, he was premoting his new movie. Just acting crazy.

  • Ah, why can't Letterman be like this anymore? I know, I was college age when this came on so many things are not gonna be the same at this point but at that time for my generation Dave was IT for late night, a breath of fresh air in comparison to an obviously declining Carson. I know that the jeans, sneakers and casual sports coats are never coming back but I would like, if only once in a while that the old Letterman magic could show itself.

  • Crispin rocks.

  • True, he was acting his character; wearing the outfit, wig, and shoes. However, there was obviously more to it. He was all jittery and speaking in slurred ways. Conclusion: probably on drugs as well.

  • duck...yer a fuckin idiot

  • doctorspankluv, YOU'RE a fuckin retard!

  • Haven't you ever heard of the Anaheim Ducks Hockey team, Monkey-Spankin Lover? Since your IQ is so low, now you know where the Duck name comes from. You must have too much time on your hands to worry about people's user names. Go eat your caca, and wipe your butt with your tongue!

  • You too.

  • I COULD murder you..

  • I heard about this appearance for years like it was this big scary deal and it really looks to me like he's simply acting. Joaquin Phoenix is doing the same thing now!

  • it was crispen preforming on letterman , he wasnt really messed up

  • That's what I thought when I saw this!

  • "Rubin & Ed" was released in 1991, but was filmed in 1986-87. Crispin is certainly dressed exactly the same as his character, and the kick is something he does in "Rubin & Ed". He could be on acid, but one thing is for sure, he's not Crispin in this interview.

  • my friend, u are right. he was just being in character. IMO crispin is by far one of the most under rated actors ever. dude has such talent and this interview proves it.. i mean till this day people still talk about

  • shears1after909 i agree, peaking for the first time around strangers is hard to handle fo sho

  • This interview was in 1986, Rubin & Ed came out in 1991. No way is Crispin doing his character Rubin, b/c that movie was far in the future. Maybe Crispin based Rubin on this appearance. If Crispin wanted to appear in character, he would've done it in his character in "River's Edge," which was out at the time (Letterman say so at the start).

  • crispins a genius, he was doin a character from a movie that was supposed to come out that yr but never did, he was just buildin mystery by playin that part, too bad letterman wasnt quick enough to figure it was an act.....

  • that hair lol. it's sad though cuz he gets scared at every sound he hears.

  • trippin. not shrooms but acid. lots of it

  • Oh I'm sure Rubin and Ed was just fantastic as well. I remember watching this episode at the time. Great TV. And Dave was really pissed. You're damn straight Letterman should have kicked his ass off the set. Letterman was privy to the Andy Kaufman bit. He talked about that since Andy died.

  • Is this Danny Glover's son?

  • By his first marriage. One of 4 children.

  • dosed out of his brain

  • It seems like he's peaking, maybe for the first time. not a good environment to be in whilst on acid. Especially if you can't handle it very well.

  • m e t h a m p h e t a m i n e s

  • unknown to Letterman and audience, who didn't recognize the character from his new movie Rubin and Ed , Glover appeared in character as the titular Rubin, wearing his costume from the film (platform shoes and a wig) and staged an Andy Kaufman-like shtick...The audience and Letterman were shocked by Glover's behaviour and assumed he was being himself no-one, including David Letterman, understood what Glover was doing and the interview became the hallmark of the "weird. It was an act guys!

  • coked out!

  • oh...but still

  • aww he was soo nervous :P he was like upset......luff u

  • He was in character for his movie Rubin & Ed.

  • what did those people yell around 1:20-1:34?...love ya glover!

  • He was............................ saying things before thinking things? Uh... can I get a.. too much.. double-triple-quadruple Sumatra with a cup of subar?

  • This is Crispin Glover ... it's Mr. Far from the Clowny Clown Clown Video.

  • Comment removed

  • agreed

  • I'm with mediate89. Crispin is playing his character from "Rubin and Ed". I haven't seen it in years, but it seems like he's Rubin.

Crispin Glover is freakin insane, but nonetheless he comes to each Letterman appearance 'being' whoever he was in his most recent movie/video...something Letterman apparently can't quite get.

    God I adore him...

  • Hahahah.

    Genius.

  • Its "advertising" for Rubin and Ed.

  • This is obviously a stunt for his movie "Rubin and Ed"....

wears the same clothes, hair and shoes and acts just like his character in the movie; not an acid trip...just character acting

  • who is this guy?

  • lol was this planned?

  • wtf

  • How awkward.

  • crispin glover is great. Letterman's a twat. Get the joke letterman!

  • Crispin, I love you!

  • Andy Warhol at his best

  • yikes, letterman barely flinches at that kick

  • i feel so sorry for crispin

  • why do you feel sorry for him?

  • My English teacher in High School made us wath this after watching "River's Edge" in class. Was an excellent class where we had to watch movies & dissect them.
