  • 5:40, that's the reason I wanted to become a Bluecoat. 5 years later, i finally am!

  • did any one else see that turning, jumping, moving, horizontal toss at 4:04?! Astounding guard! i love it!

  • Our color guard instructor marched blue coats. And our summer guy for batter was the section leader tenor. And our other battery guy is center snare for glassmen. And our head percussion guy is rob ferguson. I feel blessed.

  • 4:52 to 5:11 is where it's at. on the move, too. really feeling the lead trumpets in this one, especially there and at the press at 6:23. i still remember that entire day vividly, even four years later.

  • My Color Guard Teacher Is in this.

  • idk if its just the vid quality or what, but this sounds really thinly scored, like there isn't much going on at any given moment.

  • the baritone soloist is my student teacher :) Hes a cool guy

  • Lol the woman after the first movement..

    Talk about GE..

  • "Anything you play can, and will, be used against you."

  • One of my friends got one of the retractable red dog leashes they used for the "laser" beams from one of the snares at the bus lot after finals....regrets that he didn't think to get it autographed! Awesome show.

  • any chance i could get a copy of the original video?

  • what centerville high school is this at

  • @nigletjosh its in Ohio

  • i dont get why this placed so low. upsetting

  • @oboejones There are a couple reasons:

They kind of had a mid-season "lull" which prevented their scores from progressing like they had hoped. This can happen for several reasons- Everything from the kids getting bored with the show to the instructors having problems finding the right direction to take a show.

Another reason was 2007 was a ridiculously competitive year. Only very small differences in performance level separated the top 7 or 8 corps from one another.

  • sweeet this was my skools 08' show..... lmfao i think we're doing their 09' show as well XD

  • @stitchesinyourface Nice! Imagine was such a good show!

  • Oh man, this brings back memories. I saw this live at semifinals, my first corps show ever. That whole night changed my life.

  • Drum corps has the tendency to do that. :)

  • Ahh. I love this. Watching the Semi Finals in theaters was amazing.

"Stop! You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law"

    WAAAAAAILLLLLL

    Amazing.

  • I love the arrangement of Hummingbrrd around 3:10 in.

  • omg i was just watching on of centervilles performances from 08 and btw that one is my fav but i absoultly love the blue coats too and n i am pretty sure that they stayed at my school once!! western brown high school but idk that was like 4 to 5 years ago lol

  • 'Wild Things.' I loved that show too

  • favorite of the Bluecoats, hands down. they pull this one off really well.

  • Where did this rehearsal took place ?

  • Centerville High School.

  • 3:23 that was nails Salomon.

  • @phobass

dude that sounds CRAZY GOOD, bass perfection

  • We beat the cavaliers this day. Won the show.

  • wow nice

  • can anybody help me out?

Where exactly did they use Criminal from Fiona Apple during the show?

or did they end up cutting that section?

  • best contra book ever

  • Love it.

  • contra twirls ftw

  • I had the great privilege of seeing "Criminal" live!

  • i plan on trying for Bluecoats for 09. im in DCA right now in the Brigadiers. i cant wait to even try out for Bluecoats.

  • 22 is age out for most drum corps

  • Our schools Marching Band is playing this for a show for this year. Bought from the BlueCoats for the critics who say we stole it. And the best part, I'm playing French Horn 5 so I get to load many parts in the marching.

  • I meant to say I lead many parts. Sorry.

  • where you go to school? my school is doing it too

  • South View High School in North Carolina

  • who is this? this is aaron

  • This show finally made me a believer in the Bluecoats as a future contender for the DCI Championship. I don't understand why the judges failed to reward you guys in the end, but this was my favorite overall show of 2007 (though Crown was really close).

  • ...The night we won...The night with everything still in the show... good times :-o

  • On august 4th right before the DCI thing that day, i get to go to a bluecoats rehearsal. its part of our band camp :D i am sooo excited because Bluecoats are my favorite drum corps, being from ohio myself. My life long goal is to be in the bluecoats :]

  • i wouldnt count it as a life goal because you age out in your thirties i think cant remember the age limit right off hand at the moment but as a young adult goal in life i want to be in the bluecoats myself

  • 21 is when you age out i thought.

  • i LOVED THIS SHOW!! you guys were robbed ( score wise) and i think you did much better then you were scored. i am now and will forever be a blue coats fan. i was there in pasadena and i think you guys were amazing

  • lol..

  • Did they cut out half the show or something? The finals video was only about 5 minutes long and this is nearly 11 minutes.

  • that was the espn broadcast, not the full show.

  • I wasn't aware that ESPN didn't show the full shows until recently. Thanks.

  • ohhhhhhhhh how unbearably sorry i am for you if you never got to see their full championships performance! [i'm NOT being sarcastic...] this was one of my very favourite shows from last year! i got to see it in an iMAX theatre, not in real life, but... WOW!

  • 5:44-5:55 favorite part of the show! so frggn loud at finals.

pity about the drop in this video though.

  • I was at this show at the 2007 music for all summer symposium. It was amazing, i got to meet the drumline and everything!!

  • Oh my god, basses...from :21-:28 that was off the chain! Ive never noticed that before!

  • Yeah wow me neither. You have good ears my friend.

  • whoa that bass run was amazing after so many times watching this including the live performance i went to ive never noticed that bass run before

  • i was there;amazing show :] i love the bluecoats! i will march with them someday

  • I was at this show. It was good.

  • no way man..

  • dude so awesome! listen at about 2:45 to the pit its smooth criminal

  • im not part of the coats contra section but i can give u some advice. Relax wen playing runs period. If u tense up u'll constrict the air passage and the quality will not be so good. As for learning the music, start slow, speed it up, then take it faster than it needs to be so it will be easier at the written tempo....just a music majors advice

  • thank you!

  • is there any bluecoat contras out there that could mabey help me with a couple of things. My director just bought this show for 2008 and my section might could use some help.

  • im not part of the coats contra section but i can give u some advice. Relax wen playing runs period. If u tense up u'll constrict the air passage and the quality will not be so good. • i was there! omg that show that they did that night was amazing.

  • I adore this show; I don't care what anybody says, if anybody knows how to pull a theme together, it's the Bluecoats. And also the Cavies.

  • OH, wait for this year to come by. 2008 is such an incredible theme.

  • yeah, that was a crazy fun night, my school went up there

  • The show in Centerville made me try out for this amazing corp. They took down the Cavies and Blue Devils that night, and got EVERYONE screaming BLOOOO!

  • theres not only skinny people. my friend michale loreado made 4th euphoinum and he was big when he left.when he came back he was anorexic!!!:)

    --

    Sent from my Helio Ocean

  • hot drum major

  • wow to the contra flip at 2:33 just to the left of the 50. i wonder if he ever did that again

  • wow thats really awesome

  • watch finals, he does it

  • Bigbodyblue...definately agree with you, coats are my favorite corps. 7th was such a fucking unfair finish for them at finals

  • I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH YOU!!! I go to a band camp called Smith Walbridge Clinics and they practice there and put on a show for us each year. This show was so awesome. when I heard they got 7th place, I was wondering why they got such a low score

  • I don't think 7th place was unfair...their score was the most solid for a 7th place finish....

Plus I think last year was competitive as hell....

  • i agree, the placement-score relationship was completely fair. they just got ripped off on a few things. like visual scores mostly.

  • bluecoats totally got screwed by their visual scores even though the beginning was amazing with the lazers. they got 3rd overall for music and thats amazing. they should have gotten so much higher

  • 5:54=awesome

  • If you split the video in half you can have a better quality video.

  • I'd rather keep it as a whole so people don't have two videos to watch.

  • dude the fucking tubas are amazing!!

  • My favorite show of the year, better than Crown. 5:41 will forever be burned into my head and onto my t-shirt I bought that night.

  • I was at that show in Centerville.

the girl who rang the siren at 22 is a pit tech at my school.

  • at what school?

  • Bluecoats and Phantom got shafted badly this year. Methinks the judges were too easily impressed by The Blue Dev's Drumline dance in the closer.

  • Bluecoats were 6th or 7th in four subcaptions and were 7th in both GE and Visual. I don't think BD's drums were a factor.

  • not to be weightist or anything but would it be suprising to see a fat guy make drum corp cause from what i can see all the people in drum corps are all skinny.

  • it makes fat people get in shape.

  • lol some skinny people can barely jazz run

  • im fat and i marched blue coats

  • KOOL! i luv u man :D

  • Woo.. hopeing to march for them this summer!

  • talent*

  • the tealent that goes to the bluecoats is sick

  • i love the guard feature at the end when they're all in the middle.

  • i love the contras

    its beastly

  • i have an except of the show from 5:54-6;30 its pretty sweet!

  • about 52 seconds in i think it's lead trumpets and mellos deserve some credit hot damn!!

  • thanks

  • @sexyeuph69

i think it's just the mellos? sounds like lead trumpets are sustaining. notice that 90% of corps stand still during their first hit...

  • Saw most of the Percussion section perform this at PASIC last weekend in Columbus, Ohio. Great job, awesome stuff!!!!

  • LuminousFive, you act like you did all the work yourself when you previously played.

Remember, it's a team effort, it's not about you.

    This band is good.

  • Bluecoats are badass

  • I saw this show live- amazing contra work.

  • Funny, they managed a high brass score in half the shows this season beating devils and cavies even. But I guess the judges standing in front of the horn players can hear? Every corps sounded like this in early July, especially the cadets and devils. The new B flat horns ruined blending and its tough to make them sound clean anymore. Even as clean as the devils were this year I heards lots of balance ensemble issues!

  • Have you ever even played a G bugle? They are much harder to get in tune... Balance and ensemble issues decreased dramatically when Bb horns were introduced. I marched with both.

  • I actually own an old G bugle. They produce a different sound frequency even when you play the same notes as a B flat horn. I agree newer horns are easier to tune but what I dont like is how all the hornlines sound sloppy now. You can hear each instrument uch clearer than before. The sopranos and mellos stand out WAY more. So you dont get as smooth of a blend of sound. In some ways this is easier for juding since you stick out more. I just dont like the sound they produce.

  • They are "tinny". G bugles produced that rich "pipe organ" sound because they were all instruments in the same key.

  • really?! a championship AND I&E?!

you must be God... or something.

If you saw this show live, you'd realize that this was a fantastic hornline. Quit flaunting your awards around. it makes you sound liek a jackass.

  • If you didn't want people to take it so personally then why would you directly say that everyone else is wrong. you made it pretty personal...and your pretty full of yourself too...try to be more humble then people might listen to you.

  • man these guys dropped hella down though...i loved their show but I really thought they deserved a better placement

  • this is just excellent...and it never gets old...I have watched it over 6 times and I could just keep watching it...great job guys...can't wait till I get my spot on the line.

  • Nice Contra section, loved the show this year, i saw you guys when you were at San Antonio. :)

  • It's a shame the judges stopped scoring them after mid season. They were a leader in the pack and all the sudden their score dropped. Personally I feel phantom won this year followed by the cadets and bluecoats and crown. Bluecoats made Ohio proud this year!!

  • I am an old school fan, but I really like this show !

This and Crown's use of naration beat Cadets take. This I believe ! Those Tuba's kick butt !!

  • This show was one of my favorites along with Phantom and Crown. Just look at those straight legs... yum.

  • This was on of my favorite next to Crown and the Blue Devils. I saw them at the DCI finals at the rose bowl. it was amazing. Blue devils won BTW. W00T!

  • I saw this show back in june, the blue coats have definatly stepped up this year since theyve got recrutment in texas

  • i love this show this year, it was amazing along with bDevils and cCrown, it was really creative.

  • Fantastic.

  • i have seen this performance...it is AWESOME!!!! i hope they win this year...

  • get it bluecoats!!! i had a chance to see them in allentown, pa. they're amazing. i loved their show this year. my friend marched in the colorguard this year and she loved it.

  • they had a really good show this year i liked it a lot

  • Love the way they do "Smooth Criminal" with the movements and such, one of my favourite moments of finals night.

  • i love this show..but its just not directed toward dci judges lol. its directed towards the fans and has that special sort of overconfident attitude to it. its also a tad trashy for those old fashioned judges. i still love it though really creative!

  • I loved this show just as much as the next person, home cookin', I'm from Cincinnati, so the Coats have always been my favorite... I thought this show was amazing, especially "Criminal" by Fiona Apple... I had the privelege to see this show twice, and it was different the second time around, (first time was in Fairfield, and the second was when they took out the Devils and Cavies in Centerville) but I can tell you that the show was way to dirty to win the championship

  • The Bluecoats have gotten real good over the last few years, Sweet show Are band is using a syren this year too.

  • amazing show along with Blue Devils and Carolina ...wasnt very big fan of SCV

  • Great show! Favorite shows this year: SCV, Bluecoats, Cavies, Scouts!

  • I don't like the bluecoats...but this in one hell of a show

  • my favorite show from tonight. amazing performance.

  • Yeah Blue Coats! Should've gotten first tonight!

  • Very strong show... I kinda predict them to make top 6 this year!

  • i LUV this show! i cant believe that they didnt get 1st @ the stanford competition! GO BLUECOATS!

  • I just saw them last night and they were awesome! The show was really interesting to watch and listen to.

  • I saw them at a DCI show yesterday and it looks WAY better with their costumes. I'm SO mad i didn't record the one from the show. Although i did get some of the blue devils (which became second place) and the cadets (first place)...

  • AHHHHH jared starcher

  • I loved this show. I saw them at the DCI competition in Denver just recently. pretty awesome. They have a really creative show. Carolina Crown is still my favorite. Cadets one that night tho...ew. I hated their show, way too corny, and i just didnt like the music.

  • 4:53 is my fav part

  • there drum major is hot!!! they were at smith walbridge and we got to watch them practice lol

  • After watching, Its a good thing they have a great brass, percussion line and Color Guard. Who ever designed their drill and who ever is teaching them how to march need fired. This show visual wise is anticlimactic, and how much easier can the drill be, they should be the cleanest corp out there. BUT THEIR NOT. That's why were seeing the Cadets, Cavies and Devils leave the Coats in their dust. You talk about the Cadets having stupid narration, the Bluecoats narration is pretty lame as well.

  • No, the reason the Cadets have stupid narration is because they talk through-out the show while the corps is playing. The Coats use it sparingly, when the corps his either hardly playing or not playing at all. And watch at 1:11, when the front horns do a sprint across the camera. I think the ending is fantastic. The sting at the end is one of my favorite moments in the show!

  • Umm, the Bluecoats narration isn't lame... if you're smart. Their show is called "Criminal"... the story told is of that between... a cop... and a criminal. So what part of "You have the right to remain silent" do you find lame... when it goes so well with the show. Pay attention to detail, and think before you comment buddy.

  • This was an amazing show! i was on the 50 top row for most of it but not for the clinic around the one minute mark i was walking up to the stadium and could hear everything...and btw this is the show Coats beat BD and Cavies in case anyone was wondering

    go BLUE

  • as of this morning bluecoats were in 2nd place...hope they can keep it up!

  • thanks tom! haha

  • definitly top 5 this year, i hope it goes 1. Bluecoats 2. Phantom Regiment 3. Blue Devils 4. The Cadets 5. The Cavaliers.....but its more than likely gonna be like this 1. Blue Devils 2. The Cavaliers 3. The Cadets 4. Bluecoats 5. Phantom Regiment 6. Carolina or Scv
  • dude, i hear you. i like the first one

  • yea, this show kicks some serious ass. should have beaten cadets at san antonio. cadets show is SO gay. talk about cheesy vocals. yea.

  • i agree but ever since the 05 show the cadets had, iv never liked them. but i help volunteer in the bluecoats food truck and i think they should definitely be getting better ratings than they are.

  • oh awesome! i really appreciate what ou do. i marched bluecoats in 99. i agree about the cadets, im not really diggin their stuff anymore. i mean, theyre the freakin cadets man! not the bergen county community theater! ya know?

  • oh yea have you guys seen the new uniforms these guys got, i like them better, it looks like phantom meets bluedevils, lol

  • I'm a snare player, very hard fan of the bluedevils, but Bluecoats definitely stepped-up this year. i think they definitely will make it to top 5, Good job contras, i luv the spin ups, beastly. still a few marching issues (1st bass seems to be a little afraid of 2nd) but ya . i think the standings will go Bluedevils, cavaliers, cadets, phantom, then Bluecoats i don't knwo what's happening with vanguard this year. but they seem to be slowly going downhill. GO BLUEDEVILS

  • I'm a big fan of the blue devils as well. Never get tired of hearing that ditty.

  • i agree with you vanguard has been doin kinda crappy, i mean goin from 3rd in 2004 to like what 8th the next year thats not very good, that just shows anything can happen each year, i have to say 2006 vanguard had a cool show though, anyways yea i think BD is gonna win this year

  • bluecoats have been beating dev's in drums. phantom is almost untouchable. phantom is looking like 6th place, bluecoats perhaps 4 or 5. cavies is a disapointment, especially their line. dev's have the worst drum book.

  • sweet show! could do without the cheesy vocals and the drum set in the pit though.

  • I enjoy the way that the 'Coats are using the vocals this year, it fits nicely.
