This is absolutely fantastic! Love the gitar too. I get the feeling there's an interesting story behind the song, but not easy to find anything in English about it. It's about the beauty of Hungary too I think, but nobody needs to explain that, I've seen it several times and like it!
Okay, thanks. The Google translate isn't always so good with poetry/sonf texts, but i get the idea now. It's a folk song may be? I think I read somewhere that Béla Bártok wrote some music to it, but the text is perhaps traditional. Any idea when from?
The singing, folk music and folk songs of Hungarian culture and traditions is an integral part.
The folk music researcher, folk tunes with collectors and processors, Vikár Bela, Bartók, Kodály, Lajtha, Laszlo and the other collector due to the fact that today more than two hundred thousand Hungarian folk songs can recognize and create the world's richest, and perhaps the most beautiful song treasure of pride.

@Tengi68 Thank you Tengi68. I understand a little Hungarian - hazámból I understand without looking up in a dictionary. But obviously I must learn more because the texts (that I have now found thanks to Holdviola) are really interesting. I think I have translated Erdő, erdő, but I don't understand why a soldier comes into the song...
we waged lot of wars, and sometimes we had to, and not wanted to. But the simple people who were enlisted tried to remember the ones they left home, and these songs kept our people together. Lot of folk music is about "belonging to each other", having common values etc... Or in contrary they people who were left at home remembered the absent ones and waited them back with these songs.
@XMessorHUN Thank you XMessorHUN for helpful and interesting information. I've read quite a lot about Hungarian history, and understand what you mean. This is also the story of many other countries, but I love this music and it makes the stories come alive
@dcb23t@dcb23t Hi there, "katonahíredet" is "message from the front".
Most of these songs are about forests, birds, flowers, but they are love songs, and probably this field of wheat with the rose in the middle has some special meaning to it (most likely: fertility an chastity). So a girls sings along and closes with an emphasis that she looks forward to having her lover back "from the war".
@wendeliosa Well thank you wendeliosa for the explanation. Message from the front, that makes sense and is very romantic/evocative. Maybe I shouldn't be trying to sing this song as a man, but i can't get it out of my head so I'll sing it quietly...
@dcb23t Whilst "Elindultam szép hazámból" must be a song about refugees (sought after by the Austrian Monarchy) and hiding in Turkey at the time. (Check out Rákóczy, Thököly - and Mikes Kelemen in particular, who addresses his letters to his "Aunt" (Hungary, in fact). Of course, these "letters" could never be dispatched...
Köszönjük e gyönyörü hires népi dalt, és a képek aláfestését. De mennyiszer énekeltük ezeket - a Kaliforniai hegyeki tábortüznél... E táplálja a lelkünket :)
As our family left our Homeland in '56, we also truly connect with "Elindultam Szép Hazamból" - we miss the beauty of our Homeland, and are glad you artists bring back the SOUL of Hungary.
A szívem itthon maradt, a könnyeim még mindig folynak :)

The song is about a man who left Hungary, and therefore a sad day and night, and looking back
