I believe the error of Bill Maher is comparing an advanced society with a retarded one. The Muslim society is not developed. Many parts are still living in the Middle Ages, most of major Arab and Muslim cities are surrounded by rural areas and nomadic tribes. I believe the error of Bill Maher is comparing an advanced society with a retarded one. The Muslim society is not developed. Many parts are still living in the Middle Ages, most of major Arab and Muslim cities are surrounded by rural areas and nomadic tribes. It's very wrong making comparisons ignoring the social and economic background. So much to comment on, I'll just pick up on the description: In no way does this video "prove" Bill Maher is a racist. He would be a racist if he said Arab men are all thugs. He's not singling out a "race", muslims exist in all shapes or sizes. What he could be said to be is 'discriminating', but then again discrimination is based on prejudice, which is not what Bill Maher is guilty of. It can be proven women get better (not equal) treatment in the USA, and pointing that out is not deplorable.

I'm definitely not a racist and I often defend middle easterners in political debates but what Maher is saying is completely right. Muslim women are NOT free. The men expect to be able to control them and their "honour". They think our women are whores (Go to egypt for example. My blonde friend was harassed all the time over there, in their minds western women can be treated like prostitutes because they don't cover themselves).

I never realized that Muslim was a race. Could have sworn it was a belief system. Racism is criticizing or judging someone based on their ethnicity, something that no person has any control over. This is Maher criticizing someone's beliefs, which is something every man, woman and child in this world has 100% control over.

Here it is against the law, and women do have rights. Yes unfortunately, rape still does happen, and we condemn, however it is not done in the name of any religion or belief, and it is despicable.

We're going to have violence toward women everywhere. It's most likely human (male) nature to dominate women by using their superior physical strength. His remarks have to do with culture, and not so much race. Very very clearly, he would not be against an Arab man who is a feminist, for example.
In my definition, that's not racism. Racism is an illogical hate for all people of a particular race through prejudice, and clearly this does not describe Bill Maher. His remarks are about culture, not race
Also, though he's not a fan of Islam, he's actually not a fan of any religion - he's an outspoken atheist and constantly ridicules Christianity.

I don't even disagree with you.
But that's not what Bill said, Bill said that all (resp. vast majority of) Arab/Muslims/Middle Eastern guys around the globe "are so bad to women".
He wasn't even referring strictly to religious Muslims, or institutionalized discrimination.
His examples were mainly the guy who cut of his wife's head (and got 15 years for IN THE US) and some dubious women's reviews on arab guys.
Did you even listen, or did you just hear what you want to hear?

Don't get me wrong, I like Bill a lot, I watch his show for years now.
But he's a total bum on this one, he has a terribly undifferentiated view on anything that has to do with Muslims/Arabs/Middle East.
He's way too uneducated in that respect to have a differentiated discourse.
Which he could have had a week before with Hooman Majd, or some months ago, with Ms Amanpour, but he bashes brown guys from the middle east when there's noone there to have an educated and honest discussion.

Which would be fair, if he would do it in an honest an differentiated way rather than bashing any guy who is somehow related to the Muslim culture.
I've seen every episode of RT in the last 4 years, and he regularly does this.
In 2009 or 2010 he said, why don't Palestinians just go to the surrounding Muslim countries.
You won't hear him say anything bad about Israel.

but bill maher is right about how islam affects the culture of the arab world - nowhere in the west are women being treated like in the arab world - this is a direct result of islam - you cant simply ignore it or say that bill maher is unfair.
